Implied starting date of the Empire from OT dialogue

One thing I'm confused about was Obi-Wan's claim of haven't been called Obi-Wan since before Luke was born yet he was definitely known as Obi-Wan for all of ROTS. I know the original poster of this thread wanted to keep the prequels out of this but thought I'd mention that. I guess it's no more confusing then Obi-Wan claiming Anakin wanted look to have his lightsaber.

And THESE are the problems with the prequels, every damn time I watch the OT I notice more and more continuity errors between the trilogies which were made by the same guy! Disney just needs to remake the stupid movies and pretend the PT didn't happen, even if these films were good, they don't work in the canon at all.

I had a very exciting idea for a 3-in-1 Prequel Edit last night. I was thinking about how Sophocles' three Theban plays and how they are only tangentially related to each other. So how about a 3-in-1 Prequel Edit that actually contains three separate but related stories in a 3ish hour runtime? The edit would be broken into three parts, each about one hour in length and each with a different main character.

Pulp Fiction's non-linear structure is also an influence in this outline, as the second story takes place chronologically last:

Story One: Obi-Wan is the focus. We follow him as he tries to protect Senator Padme from harm and then tracks down the evil Count Dooku.

Story Two: Young Luke Skywalker (portrayed by Jake Lloyd) is the focus. We see him growing up on Tatooine. He races pods through the desert for fun, works of Watto and get's into a fight with young Greedo. A mysterious man named Qui-Gon Jinn enters Watto's shop one day. Watto suspects he is a Jedi and has young Luke follow him. Watto reports this Jedi to Darth Vader, who is busy hunting Jedi elsewhere and sends his henchman Maul. Maul and Qui-Gon fight and Qui-Gon is defeated. Years pass and Luke remains on Tatooine. An adult Luke looks to the stars longingly and talks with his friend Biggs who is going to join the rebellion.

Story Three: Darth Vader is the focus. Fully grown Anakin lives on Tatooine with Cliegg, Owen and his mother. When he and his girlfriend return from a trip to Mos Espa to watch the Boonta Eve classic, he discovers that his mother is missing. After finding her dead, he kills a camp of Tusken Raiders and confesses to his brother Owen. Anakin leaves to fight in the Clone War and is driven to the dark side by Palpatine's dark influence until he becomes Darth Vader.

I might try to do this one myself eventually but I probably won't get around to it for a while. If someone (more competent) wants to give it a shot in the meantime, I wouldn't mind.

Now THAT is a radical edit that actually may be possible. Seems interesting, but I don't dig it. If you or someone else tried this, I would definitely check it out

That Black R2 astromech was amazing, and that duo of the torture droid and that evil astromech is a good parody.

I actually didn't mind the supplementary droids for threepio and artoo and I though the little torture torture bit was pretty funny.

At the end of Vader #4 you see the next cover which features... *gasp* a yellow lightsaber?! For some reason I am not fond of the idea that there are tons of lightsaber colours, it's already bad enough that we have a purple one and a black one in the canon for that matter. What do you guys think of this?

I bought "The Star Wars" at the EMP museum a little while back and I don't see anything useful in it to add history to the Jedi nor the Sith. The only thing new that I learned was that the Jedi are called the "Jedi Bendu" I can look for more stuff but really I don't see anything that useful or inspirational

Well that's because it's not supposed to add to the world that exists.  Like it doesn't take place in the existing star wars universe.  It is actually a direct adaptation of an earlier draft of the original Star Wars script.  It's not really supposed to teach you more about the Jedi or the Sith, it's just like an alternate story showing like "yeah this is what Star Wars could have been."

The flaws in the story are probably what spurred the rewrites ultimately bringing us to the story we all know and love today.

 My thoughts exactly

Your description sounds like the best and the worst thing ever. Alas, this storyline is dead to me, so I won't check this issue out even for the WTF? factor.

What is weird is that there was only one piece of story progression which occurs after the droid army scenario passes by, it's like someone needs to make their own big edited digital version of the comic to get the basic story down and nothing else

I've got no idea what these comics are about, but your description makes me think it must be something like this...

LMAO I wish. In Vader #3, Darth Vader acquires some partners:

-a girl

-a black colored protocol droid (that acts just like 3P0 but confident)

-a black colored R2-Unit (that acts just like R2D2)

A bunch of rusty old battle droids are supposed to be a serious threat? And weren't they all permanently shut down in Episode III? They don't run independently like OT era droids.

So to throw another idea into the ring ...

some time ago I asked if anybody has read "the Star Wars" comic - seems there is a bit of the prophecy in this concept-based book - since the main source was at one point the "journal of the Whills", before it became the family saga of the Skywalkers.

anyway, in mentioned comic/backstory, "The Skywalker" is refered something like the "Dune messiah" - so we could tie up another thought some had here, to not name Anakin, and leaving his full name for the OT ...

bridging this to an idea how to name characters, because I find the name "Anakin" somewhat strange, in contrast to "(Ben) Obi-Wan Kenobi" - it would be better if Jedi had similar name-combinations or "titles" (not unlike the Sith, if one keeps "Darth" as this)

maybe "Anakin" could turn into "Ana-Kin" or "Ani-Kin" (other combinations like "Ana-Kheen"?)

I bought "The Star Wars" at the EMP museum a little while back and I don't see anything useful in it to add history to the Jedi nor the Sith. Darth Vader #4 was actually pretty cool, even considering the fact that most of the comic was based on AOTC (my least favourite of the horrid prequels) And the cover art kicks ass as well, the cover for Star Wars #3 was pretty awful but the actual comic was fun although not much happened except for the fact that they got on the millennium falcon

I did a little thinking lately ... as in most conversations the Jedi in PT seem rather bad people, at least for the casual viewer, they don't do much good in saving the universe or single persons (Shmi, Padme ...)

So I thought, why don't turn the PT around? this idea comes from the fact, we got this "Godfather" montage, where Palpatine gets rid off his enemies: the Jedi.

maybe the PT could be a better trilogy if it was about him: "Sidious" - his quest for domination and his revenge (another thing many like to point out, what the Sith want "revenge" for?)

I do believe many like stories like "Breaking Bad", "Sopranos" or "Boardwalk Empire" - so we could follow this ambitious senator (the parallels to a roman emperor are easy to see) - yes he could think he does "good", but in reality his lust for power divides the galaxy ...

Even the "revenge" part could be better than "because they killed other Sith" - why don't we make it personal? maybe the Jedi killed his sister or spouse? (then we would have a bait for Anakin, for his turning)

Too dark or too ambiguous?

If someone successfully pulled that off, I would be thrilled. I could be all one movie that focuses on Palpatine and his apprentices throughout the PT. This would not be my go-to version of the films but it would be a nice companion to the series. If done right, this could be really really dark (like breaking bad which you mentioned earlier). What would you do to make the Jedi vs. Palpatine rivalry more personal? Is there anything out there that would make it so that you really understand why he would hate the Jedit so much?

Did you learn something new? I don't think I ever knew of that Yoda puppet used for rehearsals - it makes you appreciate the filmed Yoda a whole lot more than already :D

That's one of the biggest things I learned, I also found out that there was a female tusken raider, and that Carrie Fisher's 'metal' bikini had a description saying that it was actually hard plastic with some cloth on the top which I find weird because I've always heard that it was made of metal. Overall, I still did really like the exhibit.

Oh I went to this exhibit also.

It was actually quite entertaining to see. Took all sorts of pics too. I thought most of the costumes looked great and were very nicely displayed, but I did have two gripes about the visit. First, I would've wished to see a lot more kinds of OT costumes

Mm yes, the OT costumes sadly are probably hard to get a hold of being that a lot of collectors (for example: Rancho Obi-Wan) already have them and that they are so damn old. But I did watch a documentary called 'Anatomy of a Dewback' about the way ILM destroyed the OT with their new special effects and in one scene they go to a huge warehoise full of OT costumes so I'm not fully sure on why the exhibit was so focused on the PT

Star Wars costume exhibit at the EMP museum in Seattle

So recently I went to the EMP Museum and by fluke I found out that for $8 there was a Star Wars coste exhibit that I could visit so I went there. The exhibit is really cool, there are original costumes from all six of the movies so far and they all look great! The mannequins are allnset up really nicely and I saw dome stuff that I didn't think I would. There was a stormtrooper from ANH, a full Darth Vader dedicated room with his costume from ESB, slave leia, tusken raiders (a female one that I didn't know existed), and tons of other original stuff. The prequels' costumes were dominant in the exhibit but IMO the costumes in the prequels are probably one of the best parts of that trilogy. Some of the highlights were:

-Original R2D2 costume where if you get a low angle you can see Kenny Baker's shoes in the legs XD

-Yoda puppet used for rehearsals

-All the placards in front of the costumes that contanied quotes from the actors, concept art, and some of them were electronic and let you scroll through pictures and do quizzes!

Overall, the show was quite worth the $8 to go see some of this stuff. They won't be there for much longer and will tour around the U.S. this year and eventually settle in a Star Wars dedicated museum. I reccomended you go check it out!

While I was there I picked up a copy of Dark Horse's "The Star Wars: deluxe edition" comic book and am quite enjoying it!

Jumper edit (Released)
Time

So I picked this movie up for a few bucks and decided to watch it just because and actually found it to be a decent movie. For those of you who don’t know, this movie stars Hayden Christensen as a wise-cracking guy who can teleport and is trying to escape Samuel L. Jackson who hunts teleporting people. The movie has some pretty good performances and decent writing but falls flat in a few important things:

  1. Music - the movie contains so little music so you are left not as excited as you would think you should be in certain scenes, when there is music, it is just in the background and serves no purpose to the emotion or story
  2. Storytelling - the movie contains several pointless scenes (examples: teleporting cars for fun, Sam Jackson attacking a guy in the forest) that don’t serve a purpose. The film also has a VERY long origin story for the protagonist
  3. Climax - the movie does not kill any of the villains and (like I mentioned before) does not contain any music during the action sequences which are actually pretty cool and contain good acting and awesome special effects
  4. The whole ending - The movie pretty much wanted to set up for a sequel that never happened
so we end up with new enemies made, new characters introduced, and the original villain still out there!! That is in no way satisfying to any viewer, especially if you have no sequel(s) to give closure to the story. Pretty much the only plus to the ending is our protagonist gets the girl(… but… nobody actually cares about the girl).

This is a project as a first time fan-editor for practise with audio editing and some special effects. So far I am using music from the ‘Bourne trilogy’ and ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ which were also scored by John Powell and have some good music for funny and emotional parts of the movie.

Basic cutlist:
-cut mother subplot
-re-scored many scenes in the movie
-tightened up the origin story
-rearranged Samuel L. Jackson’s scenes to make him more threatening and persistent
-killed off Samuel L. Jackson
-new end
-new intro
-new title card
-cut voiceover in opening

Intro (INCOMPLETE): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XQUsMLuKOA

First cut will be finished in early September 2015, PM me if you want to preview

Sidious is the "real" master of Dooku and gives orders to him offscreen, we only see Tyrannus in what were scenes with Sidious

Yeah, that is what I'm going to do, I've always had a soft spot for the 'rule of 2' in the prequels, it makes the sith seem more sophisticated and gives them history, it shows that there are only two because if there are more then the master will be assassinated. That is why I want Dooku to be looking for secret apprentices behind Sidious' back [sort of like the force unleashed for you gamers out there ;-)]
