STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

when you actually list it like that Auggie then it actually sounds like a lot still to do and we also know the shield generator explosion also another one hanging in the balance although possibly in production. I appreciate your reply also and glad you are saying it any other way than how it is. Although we are told it's near to the finish line it is not really in reality. Still much to do and I am a realist I am hoping for a release now by christmas next year that being 2015. I think that is somewhat realistic but who knows.

Although not a suggestion and talking about this shield generator explosion I came across a video a few months back and I meant to post it for interest purposes but a shock wave explosion apparently creates a visible distortion wave. This is something that should perhaps be taken into consideration even if it is only a subtle effect.

check this just for curiosity sake these guys do some very cool slow motion videos.

I kinda hope he delays it until late next year because if the unaltered Original Trilogy is indeed released next year, on Blu-ray as rumors suggest, then Ady could use elements from that release. But if he decides to release May of next year, then I still have no objections.

I really don't understand why people keep wishing that it keeps getting delayed further and further off into some obscure future. I think it is acceptable that there are delays and real life getting in the way and what not this is a given and I personally will never get upset or angry about delays as that would be totally out of order. Surely Ady now has all the footage and assets he reqiires to complete. Would a original theatrical cut really make the difference now at this stage I think not as he can draw upon resources from 70mm scans being done so it is not essential for any theatrical footage or atleast i don't think it is but call me out on it if I am wrong. Ady can and will take as long as it takes but I am certainly not wishing that it is pushed back with further delays and I just don't understand this mind set at all.

Anyway I don't think I could harbour any engaged interest levels beyond next year although I will still look forward to it but more so in the back of my mind.

Well it was a month today the announcement was made that this other project would take precedence and you thought it might take you about a month to do the work on this other project.

Wondering when Revisited will be back on track? or if it is still a way off before work can resume on it?

I am not being pushy either I mean that sincerely we all can't wait to see it finished but we are also being patient and want to be re-invigorated by the prospect of re-commencement on the edit. We all want Revisited strikes back :)

No, not everyone had adopted 16:9 TVs in 2006 (much less well before 2006), nor even most people. You could even still buy brand new 4:3 standard definition CRT TVs in mainstream stores at the time (e.g. Wal-Mart). 16:9 DVD releases were pretty standard in 2006 because they benefited the ever-increasing number of people who had widescreen TVs, and they were 100% backward compatible with 4:3 TVs, so there was no downside to them.

4:3 TV's stopped being sold here in the UK much earlier than 2006, in fact CRT TV's weren't on sale AT ALL in 2006, only LCD and Plasma 16:9 TV's. You could find them online, just about, but in the main stores, no CRT's to be found. How do i know this, In 2005 my Dad wanted to replace his now defunked 4:3 portable TV, which had a built in VHS player. We went all around the shops and nothing. So he got a 16:9 20" LCD TV with built in DVD player instead. But even then, most people i knew who HADN'T upgraded to a LCD/ Plasma still had 16:9 CRT TV's, not 4:3

the GOUT was horrendous quality coming from a studio that had access to prints/ negatives. How difficult would it have been to make a scan off one of the prints for these bonus discs? Even without a clean up they would have looked miles better than crappy laserdisc transfers. These were actually LESS quality than the preservations fans were doing at the time. Forget the slight improvement in sharpness of the picture, the digital smearing and the terrible aliasing problems made that release an joke.

Although 4k has a lot of potential, the problem is adoption It's a slow grind compared to HD.

companies and media in general are more interested in connecting with people through their low res mobile phones.

That is a real life hinderance on progressing from HD to 4k but it will come when LED Display technology gets higher adoption and you also have to factor in signal transfer through fiber optic cable (especially if over long distance) and content creation neither of these are still not cheap forget about the 4k screen the other costs are just as expensive if not more so.

There is no rush for 4k it is simply sitting there ready for when the time comes and even if 4k masters or 8k masters are done of any film or media unless pretty much bespoke. you will only see a blu ray release currently as there is still no money in 4k at this time.

Obi and Yoda appear: "Well that's nice.....still sad about Anakin though"

Anakin appears: "YAY! He made it after all!"

Having Anakin's body vanish right after death undoes all of that and removes all ambiguity about whether Anakin redeemed himself at all. His ghost appearing should always be the first indicator that he's made it to "the other side". Otherwise we've already had our visual cue that he has and it diminishes the impact of the moment his ghost appears.

Furthermore, having Anakin's body be the first one you've ever seen to just lay there......feels kind of dark if Ady makes all Prequel Jedi vanish in his versions.

I agree with what you are saying, and although I am a bit torn because I also really like the idea of the empty shell of Vader burning on the pyre you are right in that Vader should probably not vanish.

But to me, I don't see any celebration in seeing Anakins / Vaders ghost. It neither makes me happy or sad. I see it more like. So that is what Vader / Anakin looked like when he was still human, that is luke's Dad....I wonder what he was like and how he became this monster half robot evil being.

And then there was Hayden :( Which totally undermined any mystery behind the man that became Vader another reason for the PT to not exist in a trilogy form because when we found out about the mystery mans past instead letting our imagination fill in the gaps the reality was better in our imagination than on film.

The PT in general undermines the whole of ROTJ and ESB but not if it was told in Tandem it would not. If we were drip fed the back story at the relevant time that would not ruin the OT and perhaps serve to support and enhance the whole narrative. There is so much irrelevance to the PT It's obvious you can tell the story without using any PT footage what so ever but ROTJ needs to build upon the release of the revelation at the end of ESB and ROTJ should be all about filling in the gaps as a Prequel / sequel conclusion. Bringing everything together in the 3rd and final film.

If Ben and Yoda were to tell the full story to Luke as he demands to be told and that be spliced with an very heavily edited PT back story. For instance when Ben talks about Leia being Lukes sister. you could show Luke and Leia being born and obiwan delivering Luke to the Lars Homestead.

When Luke Accuses Vader "Then my father is truly dead" you can show Anakin becoming Vader on operating table.

When Yoda talks about why the truth was hidden from Luke about his father, you could show footage of Obi-wan slaying Anakin or more backstory here perhaps pertaining to the obi-wan / Anakin duel. Or another relevant moment more dialogue than the duel itself.

The only film that has any relevance of any real worth in terms of continuing or contributing to the original story and worth telling is in ROTS the other 2 PT films have really no relevance what so ever and have nothing remotely meaningful or any story worth telling in the medium of film. But even ROTS possibly only has around 10-15 minutes maximum or relevant story pertaining to the OT. And it's still questionable that it's needed because we were told the story more or less verbally by Obi-wan and Yoda.

maybe if this was the hinted "Sith" power Palpatine/Sidious was talking about - to stop people from dying (well, not really, but a Sith doesn't always tell the truth or maybe they misunderstood this force gift?)

Anakin just vanishing and turning up for the victory party, only for a short moment, is strange - better explain the why and what in the PT

so in the OT we see it and in the PT we get a little more insight on the how, but not too much, as people don't like "midis" in their blood ;-)

Yeah I agree with you that my take would only work if Vader did not vanish.

But if you take in to account the "Sith Power" that was hinted at also... Then you are astute as this is the only thread from the PT that I would consider altering the OT to fit with the PT.

This mystical power that Sidious talked about was about the best thing the PT had going for it although the context in which it was used was perhaps not very well thought out with Padme and Anakins mother.

Anyway yeah I was seriously thinking about doing a proper edit of ROTJ which would amalgamate many ideas from others and my own, and the "Sith Power" would come to bear in the throne room which is not the finale. The emperor would kill Luke in front of Vader... Vader then Kills the Emperor and while on his last legs brings Luke back to life with this "Sith Power".

This is for emotional purposes and nothing else. Think about Luke coming back from the grave and then trying to save his father who was dying. The prophecy plays out "He was so powerful that he could save others, but not himself" This was to be the the "Big surprise" whilst the brother/sister plot played out differently. Anyway I nearly committed to doing it but ultimately decided I could not be bothered. I was going to show the severed robotic hand of Vader glow and try to show the smoke coming off luke get sucked back into his body before he get's up and runs over to Vader by the railing.

This was to be my final cut on it which I have already thought a lot about ROTJ and seen many edits of it already. So ROTJ would have started at the end of ROTS and then transition to Luke on Dagobah an extended prologue of sorts but filling in the back story as ROTJ progressed and not always in time line order.

hm, could you explain a little more what you have in mind ?

For what it's worth...

Anakin to just be a normal ghost if there is such a thing... Without Blue Aura and fading in later as it is in the film but also fading out leaving Ben and Yoda together as force ghosts with blue auras.

Nothing very complicated.

To give an honest opinion on this subject.

I accept Jedi as etherial ghosts, and them fading into the ether (transparent)

although.. and this is a bit iffy somehow I don't like the idea of Vader going quite the same way but not that I don't agree with what's left of his physical form should vanish.

I could imagine his head or what's left crumbling to dust almost like going in a similar fashion but not quite the same.

It's a tricky subject to confront such ambiguous mythos but I have to admit I very much like the idea of the empty mechanical husk that is left to be burnt on the pyre.

It's an interesting take not sure if it woould work either vanishing like a Jedi or in another way like I suggested but yes I will say it's a fascinating take on the mythos.

I don't see Vader as fully redeemed just because he threw down the emperor and although a very good deed it still for me does not cancel all of the atrocity so don't mind his ghost showing up either, but should there still be something that singles Vader out as a bit different?

Perhaps Anakin's ghost should only appear momentarily and then fade whilst Yoda and Ben stay visible almost suggesting they brought him along to show luke with their powers a glimpse of his fathers spirit rather than this contrived vision that he has been redeemed for one act of good amongst many bad evil doings. and it was done for Luke not for Anakin.

relegating Anakin to a ghost by removing the blue aura so it would imply he spirit is at peace but he is not a force ghost and had not the means to become one being a sith and all.

I don't know but that is a different way of looking at it I guess

something that is also very important only Luke can see the ghosts nobody else can. And he only sees visitation by force ghosts but if Anakin was shown in commune and un force ghosted it would take on a whole new meaning to the realm of the "Force Ghosts" and create even greater mythos so I think that could be a very good thing in a way..

**RUMOR** Original theatrical cut of the OT to be released on blu ray!!

I agree with all that is being said about CGI but in it's defense...

CGI can do things today very well like robots / moving mechanical , windows, wood, metal and all sorts of synthetics very well because by it's nature it is synthetic as an effect.

But as soon as you start to try to synthesize biological things animals / monsters / natural environments i.e. trees it falls over.

But it can do repeatable patterns quite well also like fire / smoke / fog / snow / water / rocks / blood and environmental environmental effects.

It just all goes wrong when it comes to trying to create something that is alive because we can feel that it is dead there is no soul or energy transferred by cgi.

But it does do dead things like real dead things

I think the recomposite of the original shots is an enhancement but the problem with the way the process was carried out was this.

The colors were made different. And this is sometimes better and sometimes for worse.

Composited elements like 2d painted effects like light sabres, engine glows, lasers and shield Flak bursts etc lost their original brightness and became faded possibly because these elements were not recomposited and seperated as they were upon when the film was originally made.

In fact the process that the SE wen't through made the white levels go totally wrong and resulted in fading of a different kind. The colors are not as vivid and altered.

So I think if a recomposite of the Original films is done. it must be done in the correct manner and all the elements need to be seperated that were originally composited not just half of it or what they feel like recompositing.

That is the problem with it, you can't just do half of the recomposites of all the original composited elements.

47 Ronin - Your Thoughts
Time

Ha Ha :)

There won't be a sequel to 47 Ronin let me tell you that much for many reasons.

Well what I will say about the film is it is a bit clunky at the start but once it get's in the swing of it, It is not bad at all.

It is visually striking and the sets and the costumes are some of the best I have seen in a long time in a film. The action is not too over the top and it does not stick to common modern film making techniques but garners more to older styles of film making.

It does not come highly praised from me but I will say, ignore the critics and give it a try. It's not 13 Assassins or a Kurosawa film but It does have something going for it and I think what is most interesting about it is, that it's another classic studio butcher job. I think this film will become a cult movie in years to come. Because of the clearly missing material that one can sense whilst watching it and obvious cut's to running time for the sake of studio's mind set on what is acceptable for a theatrical release.

47 Ronin - Your Thoughts
Time

I watched this the other day and I have to say I found it not only refreshing amongst nonsense over the top CGI movies with unrealistic physics, but also could not but help think that it had me engaged in the main story of the film and I did care for the characters somewhat.

So Why make this thread well, I cannot help but feel that this movie got chopped up quite a bit and although critics slammed it into the garbage I think there is potentially a much better cut which we will never get to see.

So I don't mind if you hate this film but I do actually find more interesting was a targeted media campaign to destroy any hope of the film having any success what so ever before it was even released.

In terms of the removal of the director and a studio executive taking over to re-edit and re-shoot scenes to involve Keeanu Reeves character more in to the plot. I find even more compelling of what the original cut might have been like?

Basically people moaned about all sorts of things that it was too slow, and not enough action after it's release when actually It has a nice dose of action that is not over the top and again a slower film that was probably targeted towards more adult aged people has been changed to try and bring in the kids of 12 years old and what not.

Whilst nothing wrong with making it more accessible to kids, the films main material / plot is however something children really may not consider interesting and just "Want" to see the next action sequence. When the film is not about action in the slightest and the conflict resulting on the Director being sacked off is no doubt to the movie not being related to kiddie comic book action flick rather than the actual remnants of the film we see lying bare still contained within the film of more Drama, Fantasy, and small doses of action that is grounded within physical reality unlike a Michael Bay, or Peter Jackson CGI Heavy unrealistic charade.

There is also the subject of weather or not real History stories should be made in to fairy tales and many people hated on it for making a fairy tale out of real important Japanese culturally historical event.

There is also the Japanese Language version of the film as all scenes were filmed twice I imagine.

As we know that there was an alternative cut of the film which was extensively edited and twice for that matter, I would really like to see the original cut of this film in both English and Japanese with Subtitles, and I wondered if anyone else feels the same way and would also like to encourage a bit of discussion about this film in general.

Edit: It was only filmed in English not in Both Languages as I had thought. It was Japanese sub's

What do you think about this film?

Empire Strikes Back Soundtrack Restored and Rescored Demo project
Time

So I now am drawing this mini project to a close, but I think if anything I managed to flesh out a few ideas and although some of those ideas need a bit more work I have a good frame work in mind for a number of Audio edits some of which I am not shown.

Anyway to draw this to a close I did a couple more and I hope if you watch them then you enjoy them.

Bespin Rescue / Shuttle Edit

http://vimeo.com/104834523

This is something that I have had some ideas for a long time and in the process of doing the rough edit a new one came into play also. The changes are as follows.

1. Tie Fighter Sound added to back up Lando's excuses that Tie-Fighters are present at cloud city

2. When Luke falls upside down I put a new impact sound as the sound they used for this sounded something like a mario game or like a cartoon grapes being crushed. So I changed this and added a rattle to the weather vein for consistancy.

3. Restored Line from Leia "we Have to Go Back" removing "I know where Luke is"

4. Put Back "Bring My shuttle"

5. Rebuilt sound mix for Luke Hanging under Cloud City improvised a music cue and inserted the shuttle leaving before the Falcon get's back to cloud city.

I timed this to the SE Audio but really I would have liked to Have timed it to the original theatrical but as a rough mock up this will suffice. I also wanted to add the missing 5 seconds when Luke is on top ofthe Falcon but I am at a loss for creating an extra shot/ shots to fill the gap so that is not possible at this time. Remember this is only still rough mock up edit. In my mind there is still a bit more to add to this including extra music but the premise is there for the basic frame work I have in mind.

Extra C3PO Line

http://vimeo.com/104834596

When Han Leia and C3PO are running for the falcon in Echo Base I added an extra line to C3PO for Fun.

So If you followed what I was doing thanks for watching and listening but that is all for now I may attempt a full edit next year and do it 100% seriously. But at this time I wanted to only flesh out some ideas. Thanks Again.

Why I dislike Adywans Star Wars revisted
Time

Like an audio track for a film can't be improved upon from 1980 or 2004?

we are in 2014... Newer sound mixes of films leave the original star wars films and even the special edition standing in the shade.

It would never win an academy award compared to standards today.

Although it's personal preference again to dispute something that is over 30 years old being inferior to more up to date sound mixes and what can be achieved.

I personally agree that the original mixes are better than the SE but they both can also be improved upon too without doubt in my opinion not only in terms of sound quality but also in terms of being better edited. I did not like the prequal music in revisited but apart from that I did not think it sounded bad.

Ady has already made admissions that he intends to revert these changes on his next time he does this film. but he did do another version for this instance already.

The original music has never been released.

Again apparently destroyed or lost or something.

I watched a documentary about ROTJ and was really surprised that the small furry dude was actually originally planned. Is that Max? He was in a crate or wooden box If I remember right.

He actually look great in puppet form so why they did not use the puppet I don't know but he is very good just not in cgi

I think it's in this documentary.

Sorry for the triple post, but here's the mock up:

Keep in mind that it is very rough, meant to show only how the ideas work. The edits are rough, the timing of the edits are rough, and obviously I need to work out another solution for how to actually end the scene. (Opinions?)

(Perhaps after Ackbar announces that lando is leading I should find a way to fill in a few seconds so that it registers with our viewers that the briefing is over, and THEN insert the dialogue where han says "well, look at you, a general huh?". I'd have to do some tweaking to the video there, because it would look very odd to have han sit down, stand up, then sit back down again.)

Also, GOUT video is used only because I was in a hurry to do this very quickly and that was the video file I found first. When I go to edit the actual film Blu ray video will be used. (I'm still planning all my sources out)

" Many Bothans Died to bring us this information" Scratch the Bothans Many died sounds better. If there is a paused kept in the space of Bothans it would also sound like she was talking about people she cared for with a hesitation before "Died"

Where does the central Hologram go in the middle of the scene? Oh I see that is where you re-cut it.

hmmm you will have to create a hologram then :) Perhaps a hologram of the Shuttle?

As much as I usually hate overexplaining fiction...

With sublight engines pushing for long enough, the Falcon achieves near c flight. A week passes on board the Falcon, while Luke trains with Yoda for months. Boba follows long enough to figure out their course, and can easily predict when they'll arrive. The Empire, thus, arrives just before the Falcon.

I don't know where this myth comes from that Boba Fett pursues the Falcon through open space. (and for a week!)

On the last shot where he swivels on his chair in cockpit. The Falcon was always shown getting much further away from him. Like he was no longer following. The falcon is flying off.

And he also seems to be triangulating a course of trajectory on that last shot too.

Bespin apparently was not too far away but what that means in terms of distance I have no idea it does not matter either to me.

People always seem to get annoyed when Boba Fett is brought up :) lol

I think I recall reading somewhere on this thread, not exactly sure where to be exact - but that suggestions for this edit are now **closed**.

'Closed' as in 'ended', 'fini', 'over', 'shut', 'the time is past', etc., etc., etc.

Perhaps our incessant meddling and opinions would be better suited to the ROTJ:R thread from this time forward, yes?

Let us leave the Artist alone to tweak and finish this work as he sees fit. I am absolutely positive almost all of us are going to be awestruck and impressed with what he did to make our favorite film of all time, truly - perfect.

There is nothing more irksome to those creating, to have designs by committee constantly ringing in the ears while attempting to complete a vision.

INVAR please try to recognize the difference between trying to be helpful and making suggestions. I think this miniature work especially trying to re-create lighting conditions correctly Is a tricky thing indeed.

I have done lighting in the past and It is not easy to light stuff correctly, It's an art form all on to it's own and with many tricks and out of the box thinking to get the results and mood correct.

This miniatures artist Mathew Albanesse has some very good techniques in achieving fantastic lighting states on his miniatures, I also believe there are breakdowns on how he got the end results which also could prove useful in terms of lighting so I thought I would make you aware of this work if you was not already. Please see the link below.
