Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Somebody claiming to work for ESPN says that they've seen the trailer.

Here's the description for anyone interested.

Anonymous 10/14/15(Wed)18:42:53 No.61770388

Perfect timing, as I have actually seen Monday night's trailer. I work at ESPN. Expect leaks very soon as it's going around. I leaked the original trailer description to Making Star Wars, so expect to see this same description on his site within a few hours. I've only seen it once. Began with a voice over talking about Vader and Palpatine. Don't remember the exact dialogue but pretty sure it's Kylo talking about finishing what they started. Talks about unison, order, ending the "chaotic void" they left. Pretty straightforward. Starfield for the entire voice over, about ten seconds? Then, the basic "This December" "from the writer of ESB" (Lawrence Kasdan) title cards Finn and Poe in a small room, arguing over who is going to fly a ship. Finn is helmet-less, unlocking Poe's handcuffs. Frantic tone, but cut with scenes of Kylo and the stromtroopers at night, using flamethrowers. Leia and a group of Rebels around a hologram of a planet. Basic military jargon, she mentions "she has experience with this sort of thing." Admiral Ackbar is present. The blue droid from the toy line is in the background. Shot of C-3PO and R2-D2.

Finn and Rey getting shot at by stormtroopers, run up the ramp of the Millennium Falcon. A few shots of Captain Phasma, General Hux, Kylo Ren, and other no name Imperials looking at holograms. Captain Phasma talks, saying she'll "find and kill him." Someone responds, which narrates the next shot. I think he says something about making a big deal out of one man, or whatever. Clearly, they are talking about Finn going AWOL. Next is supposed to be some sort of surprise reveal, as the camera slowly pans back as the Millennium Falcon powers up. Single shot, from them running up the ramp to the Falcon taking off. Maybe thirty seconds total. Really cool. Lots of explosions and pot shots at the Falcon. More shots of the Falcon in the desert, Finn on the guns, Rey in the chair. "Funny" shot of BB-8 rolling up and down the hallways as the Falcon flies around. Extended shots of the Super Star Destroyer chase from the second teaser. Rey, Finn, BB-8 and Han in a hangar type area. Comedic type dialogue, back and forth between all the characters. Broken up by Chewie's roar, and some blaster fire. Everyone immediately splits off and takes cover. Supposed to be comical. Argument continues as they fire on the guys shooting at them. Don't remember anything that was said I think this is when there was another title card, or it might have been before they met Han but it said "comes the sequel to the original Star Wars trilogy"

Really nice shots of TIE fighters above a jungle, firing into the woods. Probably the same scene as the X-Wings above the lake in the teasers. It looks like the same weather. Captain Phasma and Kylo ren walking out of a first Order shuttle. Ren blocks a laser from hitting Phasma. Quick shots of Phasma pushing past Stormtroopers taking cover behind trees. Her gun is automatic, she fires it indiscriminately into a group. Does not take cover as they fire back. Shots of Rey and BB-8, similar to the instagram preview watching the battle. Run in the woods. Snow scenes, a new snow speeder, walker, TIEs, patrolling a large building in the snow. Starkiller Base? General Hux voiceover about ending the wait. Strormtroopers running down a hallway and exiting out to a snowfield. Shot of the black X-Wing flying through space. TIEs and X-Wings dog fight. This is that frantic part of the trailer when things are just thrown at the screen. Definitely remember seeing Leia again, the droids, more of Phasma, more of Ren in the woods, flametroopers, etc. Lots of shots in this part. Trailer ends with Ren and Finn in the woods, red lightsaber on. Ren does a fancy move swinging the saber back and forth, reminding me immediately of the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark with the swordsman, but in a good way if you catch my meaning. Shot of Finn responding by simply turning his lightsaber on. Title cards, new logos, etc. The last shot is an X-Wing flying through an exploding TIE. No Luke anywhere.

WOW. I had just been thinking of this set. I knew I had the discs about, hadn't put them in cases because I didn't have covers for them. Part of OCD-ness, I suppose.

Which is to say THANK YOU.

(I don't suppose, by any chance, that you've the covers for their supplement discs?)

Many thanks,

Were there ever any covers made for the four supplemental discs?

I know there were ones for the films themselves.

I've been wondering this myself since Benduwan has nicely reupped this four disc set to MySpleen.

There’s not enough makeup in the world to make Fisher look human anymore.

I don’t understand why she would want to be in this film.

That is not someone who belongs on the big screen.

Ford should vanish as well.

All that is needed is Hamill’s version of Obi-Wan (Old Luke).

The word that all three seem to be coming back reeks of desperation.

It's perfectly fine for people to prefer the "Prime Universe," but they still have 24 seasons and 10 movies to fall back on. The problem wasn't with pleasing hardcore fans, it's with gaining new ones--which is the opposite of Star Wars' problem as I see it.
Poor "Enterprise", not even counted! ;-)

I'll take Enterprise over Voyager.

The only reason I watched that pile was for Seven of Nine.

Yum.

Now this is something I'll never understand. Why has Abrams been handed the reins of Star Trek when he doesn't even understand the universe? Forgive my ignorance - I haven't seen the film myself - but that just sounds completely stupid to me.

He told Paramount he knew nothing about Star Trek.

They hired him anyway.

Supposedly, he was hired off of his directing Mission Impossible 3 for Paramount.

It was the least successful film in that franchise.

Go figure.

Never look for logic from Hollywood. You'll go insane.

How many times are we going to rehash bash Trek '09 in this thread? Let's see how the sequel turns out before we start scraping the Star Trek Lives sticker off the car bumper, shall we? ;)

The sequel looks even worse.

The only good news in all of this is getting him away from Star Trek.

Thank heavens.

Personally I think it's sad that Star Trek has become Star Revenge.

Say what you like about the first picture but at least it was about exploration and was cinematic.

Since then all the films including JJ's have been rather cartoonish revenge stories which could have been made for television with a big backer.

All the films? Just going through my head and trying to think of all the movies and how many of them have revenge themes in them. Been a while since I've seen any of them though.

Wrath of Khan - Yes

Search for Spock - No

The Voyage Home - No

The Final Frontier - No

The Undiscovered Country - Yes

Generations - No

First Contact - Yes

Insurrection - Yes

Nemesis - Yes

J. J. Trek 2009 - Yes

Unless I am forgetting certain aspects of some of the films, or making up others, that is over half, even if you throw The Motion Picture in for good measure. Bingo's all is hyperbole, but only a little.

I would even say that VI (The Undiscovered Country) wasn't about revenge. It was about conspiracy.

Abrams is just awful.

It doesn't matter whether its Lost or anything else he touches.

As a lifelong Star Trek fan, well, I thought his film was utter crap.

Great direction? There wasn't even one clean shot of the Enterprise.

Using a time-traveling Romulan bent on revenge so that they could have the excuse of playing in an alternate timeline was pathetic.

What Star Trek fans wanted was a real series of prequel fims showing us how the original crew met and came together since this was never done with the original series.

But I can't entirely blame Abrams. He told Paramount he knew nothing about Star Trek and they hired him anyway.

He wrote Armageddon. Yep. And don't forget that he wrote that abysmal Superman script (Flyby) wherein he had Superman dying from kryptonite while somehow the planet Krypton never explodes.

It would be laughable if it weren't so sad.

If Lucas stuck the knife in Star Wars, Abrams will be turning the blade that ensures its death.
