I think thats a flawed argument. This has nothing to do with "suitability." Theres still an entire platoon of soldiers waving machine guns and shooting at Indy elsewhere in the trailer. I think its just an instance of one of the trailers being from a later source where either more or less soldiers were digitally added as per the filmmakers request. But whatever the case--its not like E.T. Theres not "sanitising" or "cleaning up" because in both trailers there are scores of soldiers pointing guns at Indy and then firing at him later on.

Good suggestions so far, and I think Yoda looks great in the trailer........if Adywan's goal is to make the PT and OT match up better. Peace!

Then he has a lot of work color correcting Episodes I-III to make Yoda look like he does in ESB.

I was able to find pure neutral points in the frame, and I also reset the black levels to match. Over all, I like adys color better. I made a Divx re-encode of the whole trailer if your curious to see what the true color cast on yoda looks like. The file is 7 mb in size and looks just as good as Ady's Xvid. I would also like to note that the yoda part was accidently cropped at a different rez when I exported the section to color correct so it's going to have some letter boxing on the sides....my appologies. Here is the Link

See, that looks fine. He's green--because Yoda IS green--but its still a pale color like it should be. Yoda shouldn't be vibrant neon green. The prequels made him like that, but thats because the prequels are cartoons and Yoda looks like a cartoon in the prequels. Why not make Yoda blue? You might as well because IMO its just as far deviant as the bright prequel-green Yoda is like on the 2004 DVD.

How much longer will the format war last?

If the value of the XBOX add-on will pay for a standalone player, thats a viable option. But how much do you think you will get for it? Since the format is dead, chances are you'd get practically nothing, because who would buy a used POS player for a dead format? But I guess look into it just in case. The only bad part about getting a standalone player is that you'll have another piece of hardware crowding your shelf but if thats no bother then I say keep the HD-DVD disks. Why buy something again when you already have it? The Blu-Ray versions, if they are not already available, will probable just use the same HD-DVD encode anyway.

If you want to get rid of them you will definitly lose money because I'm sure stores won't give you much for them because again its a dead format. I don't think it will be that long until all the Paramoun and Universal HD-DVD titles are on Blu-Ray--I'd say by Christmas most of them will be available. But you'll basically be paying for most of them again. If you sell the XBOX add-on and all 12 HD-DVDs maybe that would pay for half, but thats still six Blu-Ray titles to buy. But I guess thats the cost of the format war. Somebody has to lose.

If I made the Prequels, I could be financially independent for the rest of my life, and make any movie or project I want through Lucasfilm, not the studio system. If I let SW go, and stopped after ROTJ, then every project I would do in the future would hinge on the studio system, as Lucasfilm was not some big money maker before the Prequels were made, where I could essentially do what I want now."

CO, I just watched the Charlie Rose show from 2004, and could not find this quote. Lucas says "I got a divorce, and that set me back quite a bit, and then I decided that one of the reasons to go back to Star Wars was that it would make me financially secure enough to where I wouldn't have to go to a studio and beg for money."

Are you just misremembering the quote I provided? The show is available online, running something like 52 minutes so I assume it is not an edited version.

According to the Bits, Japanese newspapers are reporting tha Toshiba is going to announce their discontinuing of the HD-DVD format. Various english sources have now picked up the story. Now that it is leaked early, it could happen monday.

So, while the Warner switch was the beginning of the fall, it seems that now, in a literal and real manner, the end of the format war has come.

Just a suggestion:

Don't make Yoda radiactive green. The 2004 DVDs looked awful because Yoda is a bright green, like he is in the CGI prequels. Yoda is not bright green. His skin is comparatively muted, and IMO it looks far more natural. The bright coloring introduces saturation and noise problems, firstly, but more importantly it looks really fake and out of place.

With that out of the way: that was the best trailer I've ever seen for ESB. Good luck with this Adywan! Other than Yoda's skin, it sounds like this could be an even bettter improvement than ANH!

Also: my big problem with the new ESB Emperor was he was all bright and lit-up. The original was fantastic because it was all contrasty and in shadows. I saw a fan-made re-coloring of the 2004 Emperor that simply increased the contrast and darkened the image, and while the makeup still was a bit of a problem, the mysterious nature that made the 1980 Emperor so great was back, and it obscured the makeup so you didn't notice the continuity issues. To me, the biggest problem with the new Emperor is not that it doesn't match, its that he's not scary, he's too brightly lit. Your version looked like it was on the right track though, and the idea of keeping the lip-sync from the new version and mapping it onto ROTJ-era Emperor is a good one.

No doubt about it. But I think we all liked to see Indy hunting for magical relics and the likes, not taking over the role of F.B.I agent Fox Moulder and uncovering the hiden existence of aliens in Rosewell New Mexico.

True, its a departure in that it goes from supernatural to extra-terrestrial, but its not that big a leap, as much as we are simply not accustomed to it. Even X-Files, though more identified with its extra-terrestrial plots, was 50% of the time in the paranormal realm, such that its upcoming feature film will not center on aliens but on the supernatural aspect. I guess in the case of Indiana Jones the supernatural thing is more appropriate because the supernatural is more tied in with the culture of the ancient world, which is Indy's profession, but I still feel that the backlash to an extra-terrestrial elements is vastly overstated. And to be honest, we don't know how these elements figure in, if they figure in at all--we know there are references to Roswell and such, but that hardly constitutes Little Green Men, its more to do with the paranoid aspect of the 1950's American culture when the story takes place. Don't forget, the title is not Indiana Jones and the Mothership of Area 51, its Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and concerns ancient Meso-American artifacts, so much as an unspoiled viewer like myself is concerned.

If any extra-terrestrial elements are in it, I doubt its going to be something on the scale like Close Encounters--it'll probably be more of a downplayed X-Files thing, more mysterious and ambiguous. And before people say that its all silly and unrealistic: have you guys seen any Indy films? Raiders ends with the ark of the covenant being opened, ghosts coming out of it, and lightning bolts from God melting Nazis. Temple of Doom asserts that witchcraft is real and has a man survive his heart being removed during a black magic human sacrifice. Crusade ends with Indy meeting a five-hundred yeard old phantom who restores his father to life with the cup of Jesus Christ himself. Indiana Jones movies have always had an absurdly fantastic element in it somewhere. As long as you don't take it too seriously you will be entertained.

Its not a matter of denotation and connotation. Its much like the word "sin"; thats a specific term for a specific facet of Christian theology, with defined meanings and sets of definitions. There are many different sins, and detailed laws concerning what is a sin and what is not. The name itself is exclusive to Christianity, theologically speaking, and it has specific usages within that theology. But its used in non-Christian contexts. People casually use the word "sin" to describe things that are "bad", things that are immoral or appalling--this is far from the actual Christian definition and usage of the word sin, Biblically speaking, which has specific context. It has evolved a seperate, non-Christian meaning, regardless of the Christian roots that the word has.
This is not quite an exact parallel, but its approximate.

Like I said, the "immaculate conception" is not in the revision I am doing right now, but dogmatic Christians should know that it is used in non-Christian contexts in the manner in which I used it. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I think you are splitting hairs about something that is, at the very least, debatable, and in most peoples understanding even acceptable.

Yes, its definitly still in print. In Canada, HMV is listing it in its 2 for $30 for the past six months, which means it probably moves a few dozen thousand of them a month; OOP titles don't get listed in these types of sales, because they are not replenishable and mass-produced. Its in print for sure. Maybe they just quietly put it back in production.

Interesting to picture: "Warner Brothers presents... A Lucasfilm LTD production...STAR WARS"

Anyone noticed that LFL have severed their SW ties with Fox? Warner Brothers is distributing the new Clone War films. Guess this isn't that interesting, Lucasfilm only went to Fox for the prequels in order to bilk them out of ownership rights, but its somewhat weird to imagine Star Wars films without the Fox logo preceeding the credits. I guess the other animated shows were distributed by CBS and Cartoon Network though, and this is not exactly the same as the proper episodic series.

I'll see it because, though I suspect it will be lame, I am curious. And I think anyone here that says otherwise is a bloody liar. You know you will see it at some point. You can't not be curious about a Star Wars feature film, even if its just a rental or a download or whatever.

I'll also say: I'm not confident it will hold up as a film series. Even the 2d Clone Wars, if strung into a movie, while still entertaining, is not quite feature film material. The animation quality seen in the new 3d previews looks appropriate for television, but sub-par for a feature film--and I think that that might come to characterise the series as whole. As a TV series--okay, for something from free on television maybe its worth a watch if your flipping through; but as a feature film--I have my doubts. I'll reserve judgement of course--I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm surprised to find that its no wonder LFL wanted to theatrically release these things because they are so brilliant. But that seems less likely at this point.

Since non-Catholics use it in non-catholic usage, that means it doesn't belong to Catholicism, even if they are the ones that coined the phrase. You're looking at it from the perspctive of Catholic dogma. Since that term--not The Immaculate Conception, the specific Catholic theological event--has come to encompass a broader, non-Catholic-specific meaning, it hence has more uses that those with regards to Catholic dogma. If I said "the Immaculae Conception refers to Jesus' sinless conception" (a common misconception about the term) that would be wrong, because thats in reference to a Catholic context where it has a specific point of reference, whereas in a non-Catholic context its definition is not related to the Catholic deities and their specific conditions.

In the Catholic context its a specific theological event. All other places, its just two words that describe a generalised definition of conception without intercourse. I'm sorry if you cannot believe or accept that.

Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD by something like 6-1. It has about 75% of the marketshare. HD-DVD is not expected to last beyond 2008, and it will rapidly decline throughout the year if you haven't noticed the massive decline its already taken.

http://www.digitalbits.com/articles/miscgfx2/nvshddata020308.jpg

This is the sales data for the current week. Its pretty much characteristic of the last six months or so. By summer, I'm sure Blu-Ray will have something closer to 85%, with close to 100% by Christmas when HD-DVD makes its last hurrah (Wal Mart already has HD-DVD players in its clearance section).
