//RETURNING TO JEDI\\: NTSC & PAL DVD
Time

It's all done and upped to multiupload.

PM me for links, although it should be posted at fanedit info soon labelled as "Ep 6 MULTI SL NTSC (Miami Complete)", or something like that LOL.

I've already deleted the previous version.

I also edited this post's nfo contents to reflect the updated nfo file.

However, there is a mistake as I noted that I encoded at 29.97 fps but really it's encoded at 25 fps but dgpulldowned to 29.97 fps... goddammitsomuch...

Erm... well I'm going to re-do this encode but without dropping frames.

I figured out why dgpulldown didn't work well when I tested going that route. Dgpulldown doesn't like interlaced sources and it seems that when I encoded the video, even though I deinterlaced, it was still interlaced.

meh.

Another reason why it didn't look good is that I used yadif to deinterlace at the time but that leaves jaggy edges. I like the results with TDeint much better.

This time I will be sure that it it progressive with TDeint as deinterlacer

The end result will be the same running time as the original once again but without dropping frames so no risk of adding stuttering or jogging.

I had a problem with the FE.org version - strange cropping at the bottom of the screen. But only on my 16:9 TV. The 4:3 TV displayed it properly.

Was that by chance limited to only the trailer?

I  noticed that the trailer was encoded at 4:3 on the original DL PAL DVD as well as that NTSC version. (VTS_02_1.VOB in both cases)

I encoded it at 16:9.

Oh, and thanks for the thumbs up!

Since JediTray indicates that some spots aren't as bad as other spots, chances are that the original PAL versions would have the same effect on him.

After all, since the SL NTSC versions (boon's original and my muff conversion) retain the original running time as their PAL counterparts, it's really impossible for them to be too fast when comparted to the PAL versions.

The clincher would be that JediTray found nothing wrong with the sample zip file (the easter egg) and said it was great.

The easter egg sample got the exact same treatment as everything else, tho the main feature has a higher bitrate.

Additional feedback would be great :)

It's all completely uploaded.

You can PM me for links while it gets posted at fanedit.info.

I did send out the links to a few guys so I hope to get feedback... mostly positive... I hope... :P

Availability.........: MultiUpload (also RS, MU, ZShare and HotFile)

In this release you'll find:

1 - The VIDEO_TS and DVD_ROM folders
2 - Addition artwork (.psd files) located in DVD_ROM folder
2 - This NFO file - Please... Do Not Remove!

Notes from ZeppelinRox:

1. I had previously combined all the menus and extras, including the DVD-ROM
folder (containing artwork), from the original DL PAL DVD with the updated
Miami Underground Film Festival SL PAL DVD. Basically, I just converted this
new MUFF COMPLETE PAL DVD, except the menus, to put together this SL NTSC DVD.
The menus I stole from the original SL NTSC DVD that was assembled by the one
and only Boon, from fanedit.org.

2. Tools used were mainly CCE SP2 (4 pass encoding including extras), PgcEdit,
and VobBlanker and MuxMan. Oh and MeGUI, since it makes it so easy to get d2v
files and simultaneously demux the Audio and Video streams.

3. Fixed the chapters to match the chapters on the original NTSC SL DVD. I
also added a couple near the beginning.

4. I encoded everything at 29.97 fps progressive. Audio was
untouched, since I kept the same running time as the original PAL MUFF version.

5. I kept the bitrate as high as possible and pretty much maxed out a SL DVD
(4,692,831,721 bytes) :P.
If it's still too big to burn comfortably, you may have to delete unwanted
artwork from the DVD_ROM folder or just zip them up.

I'm just wondering what JediTray's response is going to be when he sees that... ;-)

Actually, JediTray has seen a clip as I wanted feedback from a couple of guys and it seemed fine to all.

I just wanted to know if the playback seemed choppy at all (due to dropped frames via changefps) so I'm glad that it will most likely be acceptable to most people.

So the final DVD is 4.37gb (4,695,873,091 bytes)

ImgBurn reports that there would be 4.29MB free on a DVD+R and 9.73MB free on a DVD-R so I think it should be ok.

If not, you can always zip stuff up in the DVD_ROM folder or delete art that you wouldn't be using.

Edit: Uploading to Multiupload now.

Well, AssumFPS would alter the running time and as I explained previously, I didn't want to change it, as things would get ugly really fast if I had to start messing with audio :P

Oh, I see that I did say "playback speed" at one point. My bad.

Whether I put "interlaced=true" or not, I still end up with progressive video. Because of suggestions from different guides, I did tests both ways, true and false, and I liked the results from "interlaced=true" better.

The good news is that it's almost complete.

I did keep boon's menu from the original version's SL NTSC DVD that is at fanedit.info but everything else is newly encoded - including the extras :D

I'll post an update soon.

Well you did get to see for yourself how it will playback. There won't be any addtional blended frames in the version that I will upload.

Sorry that its taking so long but I wanted to be sure to get as good a picture that I could get. Unfortunately it involved a lot of testing with CCE settings and avisynth filters after farting around with the MediaCoder/ffmpeg for too long.

The final avisynth scipt seems very simplistic but it took awhile to get the results I was looking for. I'm looking into possibly re-encoding the extras from the original PAL DVD as well instead of using the NTSC extras that are on the current SL version found at fanedit.info.

Here is the script that I'm using:

TDeint(Mode=2,Order=0,tryWeave=true)
Spline36Resize(720,480)
ChangeFPS(23.976)
limitedsharpenfaster()
converttoyuy2(interlaced=true)

If there is anything seriously wrong with it, such as stuff being in the wrong order, please let me know.

Thanks for the heads up :)

I did see that post before so I'm wanting to keep the same playback speed.

The problem I'm having is that I can't stand the ghosting/blended frames that many guides deliver and it doesn't help that the source is interlaced. Yadif gave jaggy edges and so did TDeint but not as bad as yadif and both lose too much detail where there is low ligjht.

CCE's deinterlacer is smooth and detail is good but too soft.

Finally I discovered TDeint's mode 2 parameter which is amazingly smooth, sharp and has great detail by combining detail from 2 frames via bobbing somehow.  I'm also testing its "tryMesh" parameter.

But bottom line is that the end result will have the same running time via ChangeFPS(23.976) and a pulldown. Dropping frames is better than ConvertFPS's ghosts, methinks. I did get feedback on a clip from a couple of guys, including JD, and playback is fine without jerkiness as far as they're concerned :)

However, I really wish there was a filter that would add 2 frames and delete 3 frames instead of just deleting a frame, which is how ChangeFPS works in this case. Of course, the 2 added frames would blend the usually deleted frame with it's adjacent frames and all 3 of those original frames would get deleted.

Actually, is there such a filter?

The DL PAL RTJ MUFF Edition is now up at fanedit.info

However, I'm thinking about re-encoding it to fit on a single layer dvd since it is only 4.57 gb.

I'd like to slightly sharpen the picture a bit while shrinking it down to 4.36 gb.

The reason that I'd like to do this is that I'm pretty happy with the image quality of the NTSC version that I'm working on:

Original Miami PAL encode:

Original Pal Encode

My Miami NTSC encode (currently on cce pass 2 of 4 but was still able to take this snapshot):

My Miami NTSC encode

For easy comparison, I had resized the PAL cap to the same dimension of the NTSC cap.

So... should I leave the Miami PAL alone or re-encode so it fits on a SL DVD?

Mulitupload wasn't making the last few files available to download so I had deleted and reuploaded them serveral times.

But it finally worked and it's all online :)

It should be at fanedit.info soon but if you can't wait I can PM links if that's not against company policy ;)

I included an nfo file in the DVD_ROM folder (yeah, I simply based it on the BE nfo file, but what the heck), which  reads as follows:

In this release you'll find:

1 - The VIDEO_TS and DVD_ROM folders
2 - The !ifo_back folder
2 - This NFO file - Please... Do Not Remove!

Notes from ZeppelinRox:

1. Since I'm a completist and like to have the latest and greatest, I combined
all the menus and extras, including the DVD-ROM folder (containing artwork),
from the original DL PAL DVD with the updated Miami Underground Film Festival
SL PAL DVD.

2. Of course, the IFOs have been updated - using IfoEdit.
I did add chapter points to match the last 2 chapters of the original release
at the start of the end credits and at the end of the credits (but before that
extra bit) - using VobBlanker's split cell and add chapter features.
Then I deleted the last 2 original chapter points that were just before and in
the middle of the end credits - using PgcEdit

3. The !ifo_back folder contains files with original chapters.
I included these files in the off chance that there is a problem with the new
chapter points that I made. I'm no IFO Guru so better safe than sorry :P
These files will also retain all the menus and extras.
So if there is a problem, back up the ifo files in the VIDEO_TS folder and
replace them with these files.

4. I did not shrink anything down so the quality here is, as far as I know, the
best that is available.
The downside is that it all does not quite fit on a single layer DVD.

The links for ifo fix from a couple of pages back are broken but I think that I will combine the miami with original extras, like how I did with Building Empire.

Go for it!

Just for grins, here's the PAL .IFO,s again, to go with demonoid .VOB,s
[url]

 Heh :)

Well, it turns out things went pretty smoothly.

IFOUpdate merely updated the original DL PAL ifos with only chapters/cell info/navigation stuff from the demonoid miami ifos so the final ifos retained all the PAL info :D

Anyhoo it's all done and it's uploading to MultiUpload which is an uber cool service.

Boon started uploading his stuff there so that's how I came to know about it.

Basically, I upload to multiupload and 4 additional copies get uploaded to Rapidshare, MegaUpload, ZShare and HotFile. It can be 6 but I'm not bothering with uploading.com and depositfiles.com because they appear to suck rather large rocks.

Personally, I'd only download from the multiupload (appears as "directhttp" in jDownloader), MegaUpload and ZShare links as they are fast, wait time is negligible and all 3 support resuming. MultiUpload and ZShare also allow multiple downloading which is pretty freakin cool for free services.

Basically, a free user like myself can have jDownloader only use the links from those 3 services and max out their download bandwidth without a break until it's done.

I was able to download TMBTM's new Conan Man of War FE SL DVD in about 2 hrs. It could have been faster but I was figuring out a strategy on how to get jD to download from the 3 sites simultaneously in the most efficient manner LOL.

I selected RS and HF as additional sites because I know that alot of people pay for those services and what the heck, it's additional availablility for the same low price... ermm... free even. :D

I figure that it will be all done tomorrow sometime.

I very much enjoyed the NTSC versions of both Building Empire and Returning to Jedi.

Unfortunately I have a problem; I live in the UK, and as such I require the PAL versions of the films if I want to watch them on my DVD player. Does anyone know what the significance of the 'IFOFIX' is?

If you're talking about the merged DVD that I put together, I mentioned in the readme text (in my first post) the purpose of the ifofix. It merely removes non existent chapters from appearing in the DVD navigation menu.

Without the fix, the DVD will still use the same chapter points that are on the original Miami DL PAL disc so it really isn't necessary to use the fix.

Of course this merged Miami DVD is in PAL format and the fix applys to this disc and only this disc.

It's of no use to any other PAL or NTSC version.

I think that you should just download the PAL versions anyway. As a bonus, the video quality is much better.

The original PAL version - according to the specs on the wiki - does include the DVD-ROM folder.

Oh OK.

That makes sense since the NTSC was converted from the PAL.

Actually, I did think that it was odd that the DVD-ROM folder wasn't on the SL PAL DVD that I had originally downloaded not too long ago.

Thanks for the info.

So I should have said, "I also included the DVD-ROM folder that I only found on the SL NTSC version.

Edit: I hope that I didn't ruffle any feathers :P
