The Trump administration is prohibiting officials at the nation’s top public health agency from using a list of seven words or phrases — including “fetus” and “transgender” — in official documents being prepared for next year’s budget.

Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

In some instances, the analysts were given alternative phrases. Instead of “science-based” or “evidence-based,” the suggested phrase is “CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes,” the person said. In other cases, no replacement words were immediately offered.

The Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC, “will continue to use the best scientific evidence available to improve the health of all Americans,” HHS spokesman Matt Lloyd told The Washington Post. “HHS also strongly encourages the use of outcome and evidence data in program evaluations and budget decisions.”

The question of how to address such issues as sexual orientation, gender identity and abortion rights — all of which received significant visibility under the Obama administration — has surfaced repeatedly in federal agencies since President Trump took office. Several key departments — including HHS, as well as Justice, Education, and Housing and Urban Development — have changed some federal policies and how they collect government information about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.

Ranking the Star Wars Soundtracks

  1. The Empire Strickes Back
  2. Return of the Jedi
  3. The Force Awakens
  4. The Phantom Menace
  5. Star Wars
  6. Attack of the Clones
  7. Revenge of the Sith

† I do really like this score, but due to how lists work, it has been relegated to a lower place than I might have wanted it to. (And no, I do not accept ties.)

Updated ranking, which I am pretty satisfied with:

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
    A really good soundtrack.

  2. Star Wars
I think I pretty severely underrated this soundtrack in my original ranking. After listening through it again, I really liked it.

  3. Return of the Jedi
Pretty good. Side note: It’s pretty much impossible to find a good version of this soundtrack that either doesn’t sound like crap or has been watered down to oblivion.

  4. The Force Awakens
    Thumbs up.

  5. Rogue One
I think most people underrate this soundtrack, but I loved how it sounded and worked in the movie. I also liked how it tied in with the A New Hope soundtrack.

  6. The Phantom Menace
Thumbs up. I especially like ‘Anikan’s Theme’.

  7. Attack of the Clones
Pretty unremarkable as far as Star Wars soundtracks go.

  8. Revenge of the Sith
Pretty much the same as Attack of the Clones.

So even though I have not watched the movie yet, I have bought the TLJ soundtrack. I’m not quite sure what to think of it. It seemed to me kind of busy in places, but that could just reflect the pace of the movie. I think this soundtrack has a bit more interest to me than TFA’s, so I’ll place it above that for now. I also loved the callbacks to earlier soundtracks.

Current ranking:

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. Return of the Jedi
  4. The Last Jedi
  5. The Force Awakens
  6. The Phantom Menace
  7. Attack of the Clones
  8. Revenge of the Sith

http://fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/alabama-senate-election-results/?lpup=11144550#livepress-update-11144550

As the conventional wisdom — and the Upshot’s cool model — now swings slightly back toward Jones again, it’s worth remembering that making extrapolations based on partial returns is a lot harder in a state like Alabama where we aren’t used to having competitive elections. That why models like the Upshot’s have wide confidence intervals (conveying a lot of uncertainty) and why you should be cautious about getting too far ahead of the story.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/melania-ivanka-jared-mayoral-election-votes-didn-count-article-1.3692124

Good thing last month’s mayoral election wasn’t close because if New Yorkers needed the Trump family to decide the outcome, they would have been out of luck.

President Trump and his family of New Yorkers were not in the Big Apple Nov. 7 when voters went the polls, so they voted by absentee ballot.

Or at least they tried to.

But the First Lady did not sign the envelope she put the ballot in as required by BOE, so her vote wasn’t counted.

Trump’s daughter Ivanka also botched her ballot. It was filled out correctly, but she didn’t mail it until Election Day—which was too late to be counted, officials said.

Her husband, Jared Kushner, didn’t mail his back at all, according to the board.

Officials said the President’s ballot was fine. But that was before the Daily News pointed out to an official that the date of birth on his application was a full month off.
