Regarding the “r-word”, we’ve disciplined other members for using it and will continue to do so when it’s brought to our attention. Had Frink contacted us about its use in the TLJ thread instead of going off, we would’ve corrected it there as well.
But he did not go as far as to say that it was a slur; he just said that other members have been disciplined for it (which is something I have not seen, but maybe I’m missing something). He also never said it applies under rule number seven.

I didn’t say it’s a problem that you specifically haven’t seen it. But I think it’s a problem that the most active thread right now goes relatively unmoderated out of fear to be the one that reveals a spoiler to the mods by reporting something.
Jay also has other mods that he can delegate issues to, so this complaining about having to go to into a spoiler thread is really moot since there are at least two other people that can handle the situation for him.
I defended Jay about his not seeing the movie. But complaining about having to moderate the spoiler thread is a bit much, don’t ya think?
I guess I just don’t understand what any of you are trying to accomplish. Talk to the people you like and ignore the ones you don’t. Everyone has different ideas of what is proper and decent, and everyone is offended by different things. If they attack another poster, then it becomes a problem.

Well, okay then. I knew some people were offended but I didn’t know it would provoke such a heated response.
See, I don’t know. When you report a post, maybe it puts the contents of that post in another Reported-Posts place somewhere, so Jay could react to that post without reading the actual thread.
Jay posted twice in there yesterday, one responding to another post which I assume was not reported, so I don’t give that theory credence.
Also he must have seen others posts because they were quoted within Frink’s offending post.
In order to ban Frink he’d also need to read the comments that others made… which were surely already over the line.
(With mod’s hat back on) This is just a small part of recent efforts to ask / remind posters to be civil to each other, and treat each with a bit more respect also to try and improve the flow and quality of the conversations.
Couldn’t it also be requested that people don’t use the r-word? Would that improve the flow and quality of the conversations? I think it should, because look at the pickle that we’re in now. It ain’t a pretty pickle.
Also, members rightfully do PM the mods and asking us why is poster ‘x’ allowed to say this when poster ‘y’ and myself are not? ‘You had a go at me about this and haven’t had a go at them?’ etc. Well, the mods have to be, and want to be, and aim to be, equal and fair to all members - so we don’t treat you guys any differently or give you preferential treatment - not that we would anyway 😉
This seems to have gone unheeded.
Not giving warnings in public encourages speculation about the reason for bans, so I don’t think that’s how it should be handled. Also, people need to know what kind of behaviour others get warned for, so that they won’t do the same.
It also doesn’t help how nobody has clarified the situation yet.
Regarding JMSW, Frink wasn’t the only one who suspected him to be JMOW, yet noone received even a warning. It was just stated that he’s not a sock and that calling him a sock will no longer be accepted. And I think Frink stopped after that.
There was also the username thread incident, but then again, Frink was not warned individually, only a vague “you” group.
I think we should wait for Frink to return from his temp-ban before we continue to condemn anyone else or go on endless conjecture.
