Yeah.  The sabers really got to me.  As well of the ridicules decision to to make vader's eyes red.  That alone makes no sense.  I can understand the funny warping effect of his actual helmet but the red eyes??? Dumb. If  Lucas wanted his eyes red he would have vader eyes red in EBS and  ROTJ and even ROTS

Check out the "birth of Vader" scene in ROTS. They deliberately had his visual eye display as bright red to match his ANH "red lens". Yet for some unknown reason, they chose not to use the red lenses in the ROTS helmet, but went with a more ROTJ yellow lens. As this show is to  bridge the gap between ROTS & ANH, as is set just a few years before ANH, it certainly isn't a "dumb" move to have him with the red lenses.

The show looks really stupid though.

The show is actually pretty good. The opening episode of season 2 was a great episode

You know there are a lot of other forums out there where it is a bitch fest about the direction to use fencing type sabers.  I think I will take this there.

And most of that bitching is because they don't even realise that the whole show is stylised on the original McQuarrie/ Johnston designs. The Clone wars characters  were stylised on the Thunderbirds puppets qand they never seemed to mind that series so much. At least Rebels is based upon the look of something actually connected to the Star Wars universe and it's development, not just ripped off from a kids puppet show

Then why did you change vaders's eyes in ANH revisited?

I am not really going to change anything else.

The aliasing is not from the show I just grabbed some picks from Google and quickly scoped out those stills.  z  I am waiting for the blu Ray release for my actual source material which releases this September

Folks,

I just wanted to you all aware that I will be correcting the sabers in SW Rebels.  I simply put can not stand the way they look currently and I can not stand Vader’s Red Eyes have returned.  I love the series enough to spend some time with these cartoons.   Below are some examples of what I plan to do.

Any Thoughts or Suggestions?

The top left laser is not screened, and presents a unrealistic red glow which any beam of light or energy source does not deflect light unless it was a physical object. (We are talking about energy. )

The other examples are lasers transferred in screen mode. In this mode I feel the lasers are accurately presented realistically. A good example of this is if you watch a thunderstorm lightning does not have that glow you see at night if it happened in the middle of the bright day.

The Laser drawn directly over the Walker is in screen mode and since the background is darker then a bright sky or snow, it presents for of the glow based on background lighting conditions.

As far as roto scoping the sabers, I was limited to scoping on top of what was already there, so it sometimes will screw up the actual transfer of the glow effect or look a little to thick.  There is only so much you can do  with this.  Original laser blasts can be removed, but light sabers are next impossible because of all the movement.  I think the only way you could remove original light sabers is to roto out the actual actors, and do a background replacement, and have to have "clean plates" for ever freaking frame. something which I am not willing to do because of the ridicules time involved for this.

"The pink lasers are no good. Use this as a proper reference This color to the lasers look amazing even if it is red shifted the lasers are not pink."

If you screen a red energy in a bright white snowy conditions you end up with pink.

If I set the transfer mode to normal it would look red but also too hot or "fake".

I think most of the Star Wars community has accepted this as moving forth even Star Wars Battle front have the "pink" lasers in the battle of hoth...

No, i looked at the video before commenting. Lightsaber tips were always rounded until Episodes 2 & 3 (they were old school in episode 1) , when the pointy option kicked in. It's just something i can't stand about the prequel sabers.

As for Rebels, then i can't see why that would make you worried about the sabers in episode 7. Rebels designs are heavily influenced by the classic Ralph McQuarrie designs/ concept paintings. The style of the sabers are taken directly from those, as Dave Filoni has himself said.

The concept images they use in rebels look like shit.  I mean I understand your point on the pointy tips in EPIII, but these are just too skinny and unrealistic as far as using a light saber this thin to deflect laser blasts. (Lets now use a golf club shaft to hit baseballs now in MLBS.)  Concept art should be left alone it is a concept and that it.  It does not really mean it will translate well in motion.

I can assure you my ESB version will not anywhere look like EP III sabers (point tips. More somewhere in between.

As Rebels go, once it goes to BD format i have future plans of re-scoping those (THIN) sabers.  I mean they got James Earl Jones back to reprise his role as Vader, that alone warrants my attention in this series.

Everyone I guess has there cup of preferred tea. That is why this site exists I guess.

Yea I thought EP 3 the light sabers were horrible.  A lot of times they were improperly screened and they used some type of ILM proprietary software and they keyed the tips to look exactly the same for every shot.  Looked too cartoonish.

This was way back before Mocha and AE hit the markets.  Actually out of all the prequels EP 1 light sabers looked the best in my opinion because they used old fashion roto-scoping/..

Star Wars Rebels has me worried of how JJ A., is going to animate the classic light sabers. (not the new dark lord cross blade).   I personally think they should not be as skinny and thin as they are now in Rebels.

As far as adywan opion of mine being too pointy, I think he only looked at the stills, and not the actual cutup.

I am please to announce Star Wars V (version 3.2) will be released in the next few days.  Though this is a Fan Edits Forum, I did no editing to change the film from a story perspective but this is more for other fan editors out there in the community who would want to use my work is totally OK.  Some might like the visual effects changes I made, others will not.  This is simply put a library source (digital clean up) if or so others wish to use clips or parts of the movie that I changed can.

I wanted to cut some scenes from the specialized version, but I do not want to break the DTS 7.1 audio mix, because simply put it's Awesome!!

Some people on these boards know me from my ROTJ beta 2.0, I have had private requests to do the same work on empire, actually I already have, it just was not finished.

Things done---

Laser blasts rescoped

lightsabers rescoped

Muzzle flashes added

Impact effects added

Luke now has Sith eyes (in the Vader costume)

Falcon Engine changed to Blue

Various smoke and other effects added to certain action scenes.

Below are some screen shots.

Consider me a satisfied customer.  Do you have any plans for doing this on ANH and ESB?  Doing those two would understandably be intimidating at the moment... but I could live with just having enhanced lasers and shiz to keep it in 1080P.

I already have v1.0 IV and V, Working on some fixes before releasing.

IV details-

-Falcon engine will be Blue

-Darth Vader eyes will be black (no more red tint and no more eyes and eyebrows from David) god help us all...

Vader's chest plate will now actually light up with random lights (RED)

-original lasers on the intro scene (storm troopers and rebels) will all be erased and redrawn digital with a more natural screening effect.  I have to get rid of the originals because just re-scoping them made the effects look too hot!!

-Han Shoots first

-Debating Cutting Jabba Scene it did not work in 77, and it still did not work in 98.

-all light sabers rescoped

-all lasers blast and effects rescoped

muzzle flashes add where needed.

reworking Death Star explosion.

-- working to replace space background after the explosion of Alderen. From the POV inside of the cockpit of the Falcon.  (I spelled it wrong I know.. ) I am holding on this because I have not composited a background that I am happy with yet. And it is a nightmare to track with Mocha AE pro.

- some of the xwing cockpit explosions will be enhanced.

- misc sparks will be added here and there during the death star attack seq.

--Misc AUDIO storm trooper Dialog added when needed.

-- Vader's light saber can now be heard turning on just before OBIWAN activates his saber.  (rear left to mid channel) on a DD 5.1 mix.

--Falcon shown firing at Tie Fighters with added sound effect of the Falcon firing. ("your all clear Kid...") Also Laser blast effect added just before TIE pilot says "look out..."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

V details:

-All laser blasts, light sabers recoped.  inpact flares added ect same as above.

--also converting pink saber shots to RED

-Luke Vader shot in the cave will have more of a dreamy effect added.

-misc impact sparks ect.

--muzzle flash added when needed.

--Various minor improvements

Vader's saber can now be scene turning off after luke crashes through window (city in the clouds)

Ok, I was able to download it and I have some good and bad things to say. The good is all the work on englne flash, laser bolts and lightsabers. During the big space battle I think your ships firing added a new dimension to them, I'm not sure what you did, but it looked cool. The bad, well number one I wish you could have deleted the newer Jabba's band sequence and young Anakin being there. Also, I did'nt like the added effect done to the big explosions, it looked amatuerish and cheesy. Otherwise a pretty good effort in my opinion.

If you are referring to the Star Destroyer scene I am in full 100% agreement.  I only have a limited about of pre-keyed explosions, and if I had my way I would re-shot the entire scene.  Since I do not have a Auto CAD model to print out of this ship and a 3d printer, I will leave this sequence to another fan...  I will let other fans edit those other requests out as I only had the one Box Set of BD releases. But I agree with you..  The release I have was not so much of an edit but a touch up.

I am not much of an editor, more of Adobe After effects guy, so I will leave that to someone else.. (Possessed HELP!!!) :}

Help Wanted: Looking for Colorists
Time

I have completed all principle special effects, Re-rotoscoped the Deleted Scenes in ROTJ.  I also cleaned up most of the film scratches and bad splices, fixed the  interlacing artifacts and applied a great deal of Noise reduction.  I added a layer of HD Film grain to smooth everything out…

But my one weak spot is general color correction, as quite frankly not my cup of tea, and I suck at it… lol

I am more of a fixer upper and after effects special effects artist than a colorist. Any one willing to color correct those clips?  Let me know I will PM any volunteer the link for download those 2 clips. They will be in a quicklime JPG 100 format so the file sizes are about a gig each. (pretty close to lossless)
