Have you heard about how Marvel is making a new Spiderman who is black, Mexican, and possibly gay?
Why not give each categories it's own superhero, in order for everyone to be happy?

That does seem to be a low grab at "pleasing minorities" as opposed to anything purely or innocently motivated.

But, to be clear, it's just "Ultimate Spider-Man" about which almost no one really cares. "Regular" Spider-Man continues to be WASP Peter Parker.

Wow, I really enjoyed the Finale to Fallout 3. Liberty Prime was pretty sweet. A nice way to go out.

The "ending" video was pretty clunky. I don't think it was any different for having the DLC installed... but it seemed to be like 10 small endings. And it skipped over a lot of the more "important" things I did... kind of reminded me of the ending of Return of the King for some reason.

I think I'll finish the things I wanted to do around the Wasteland and knock out Broken Steel... then I think I might take a break before diving in to Zeta and Lookout. I've really been enjoying myself, but fatigue is starting to creep in.

Rubber.

I expected a story about a self-aware tire that goes on a rampage.

I did not expect a story about a self-aware tire that goes on a rampage where the tire makes the most sense of anything in the movie.

7 binoculars out of 10.

We only got about half hour into that before we turned it off. Shortly after the tire watched the woman take a shower.

I see...then you missed the non-tire parts that got very weird.

Is that some kind of "woman in a shower" joke?

Oh man, I was between jobs when DX1 GotY came out.  I actually had a job, but I didn't start it for 3 months.  I played DX1 like it was my job.  I probably even put in overtime.  I don't know how many hours... but maybe 2 weeks of 8-10 days.  Those were the days...

I did that once with the Sega Genesis Phantasy Star games.  Although in my case I had decided to wait two months before looking for a job.

For this lazy guy, it was the best two months ever.

I guess it's a huge waste of time... but it does seem to stick in the memory.

Like my (hopefully) annual all nighter weekend...  I'd be in real trouble if that was my constant behaviour... but I think I can get away with it once a year.

What is this?  Share!!!

I've been sharing, someone just hasn't been paying attention:

I think another factor that should be considered in research like this: the second viewing.

Good points.  Even the ones I've snipped.

I was thinking about this again... maybe you can compare it to a good joke.

The first time you hear it, it may make you take a second to "get it" which might make you feel inferior, especially if other people are already laughing at it.

The next time you hear it, it may be almost as funny, but it's also not a surprise.  You may feel more confident about yourself... but there's nothing like hearing a joke for the first time.

There's nothing like seeing an unspoiled movie for the first time.  There is at least one other thing like seeing a spoiled movie for the first time: seeing a movie a 2nd time.

So basically, seeing an unspoiled movie would allow you to watch something both ways... whereas having a movie spoiled before you first watch it may only allow you to watch it the one way.

Fallout 3 update:

Well, I'm all but done with the core Fallout 3.  I've only got the last mission (Take it Back!) to go on... and a handful of this-n-that's that I want to finish up.  I have some teddy bears to take to the Pitt, I need to go escort an 18 year old to Big Town and I've never actually been in Vault 106.  I guess I could drop by Reilly's Rangers and get paid (because 15k in caps is apparently not enough).  And I have a lot of fingers I could turn in...

When I was back in Vault 101, I was having visions of how great a Fallout TV series would be.  The mystery of the vaults, the brutal wasteland.

That could be some fantastic TV.

Best and Worst Decades For Music

Okay, my point is that I don't listen to the radio hoping to hear anything new like I used to.  I'm much happier listening to music I already know I like.  So I couldn't really tell you if 2011 is the start of a good decade for new music or not.

I found a lot of good stuff in the last few years (typically called Indie, although in the 90's it was called Alternative).  Examples:

-Arcade Fire
-Architecture In Helsinki
-The Bird and the Bee
-Cassettes Won't Listen
-Cut Copy
-Death Cab for Cutie
-Dr. Horrible (seriously, check out the DVD Commentary Songs)
-The Decemberists
-Flight of the Conchords
-Flobots
-Friendly Fires
-The Futureheads
-Gorillaz
-The Gregory Brothers (Auto Tune the News - seriously!)
-Headlights
-The Helio Sequence
-Interpol
-Johnny Foreigner
-Kaiser Chiefs
-Late of the Pier
-Los Campesinos!
-Mates of State
-Max Tundra
-Mew
-The New Pornographers
-The Octopus Project
-The Postal Service
-Ratatat
-Reel Big Fish
-The Seedy Seeds
-So Many Dynamos
-Sufjan Stevens
-The Thermals
-Tokyo Police Club
-Wonderlick

(and yes, I know, a few of these have gone major label)

The bad news is that it's harder to find because you can't just turn on the radio to hear this stuff (for the most part, and dependent in some cases on where you live).  The good news is you can find it via the internet (music blogs, radio feeds like KEXP Seattle and WOXY Cincinnati, etc.).

I look at that list and I think, hell, music has been very good lately.  You just have to find it.

xhonzi, ever listen to KTCL?  There was a time it was good but I haven't listened to it in a while.  KBCO isn't bad either.

Oooof that list is just making me tired looking at it.  My joints are creaking!  Where's my metamucil?!!?

Best and Worst Decades For Music

This decade is shaping up to be the worst I've ever seen in regards to music.

I think this is less of a musical preferrence and more of a perspective problem.

Just like movies and the sense that "they used to make a lot of good ones, now most of them are just crap!"

The only music to survive getting old (let's just pick the 20-year mark) is the notable stuff.  Anything unnotable just ceases to exists.  Not all of the notable music is good but a much higher percentage of that music is good than the percentage of ALL music.

So, you inevitablty compare the highlights of previous decades with the mean average of this one.  Of course they won't compare.

However, I've reached that age/mindset that there was enough music in the world 5 years ago and I don't need to listen to anything new anymore.

Except Weezer...

And Flight of the Conchords....

And a few others.....

Okay, my point is that I don't listen to the radio hoping to hear anything new like I used to.  I'm much happier listening to music I already know I like.  So I couldn't really tell you if 2011 is the start of a good decade for new music or not.

Really?  I don't remember that.

Is it true? Your name is Steve?

Wow, a white guy in his late 30's named Steve.

We're getting closer.....

No, I meant I don't even remember a discussion of "Steve" there.

Did Steve tell you that, perchance?

Steve...  Pffffftttt...
