Books (Non-fiction) (Was: Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics)
Time

I just finished Jonah Lehrer's "How We Decide."  It was really good too.  A little overlap with the Freakonomics books, but otherwise a different topic.  It mostly concerns the different "layers" of the brain and how they interact and arrive at a final "decision."

Now I'm reading "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell.  It's made for an interesting third point to Lehrer and Leavitt.

Not to turn this back into the James Bond pages of the "Love/Hate" Thread, but GoldenEye may be my #1 favourite Bond movie.  Everything Brosnan post GoldenEye is just plain terrible, IMEO.

GoldenEye + Casino Royale = Directed by Martin Campbell.  He can direct the rest of them, as far as I'm concerned.

Internet Explorer
Time

VFP,
I've used Firefox and Chrome, but I always come back to IE.  I never get what the big deal is.  I think some of it is a "Take this, Microsoft!  That this, with!" kind of attitude.

I use a browser on 3 different machines- one at work where I can't change the browser, one on my laptop where I don't have a lot of spare disk space (and that's the primary reason I uninstalled the other browsers) and our family desktop.  I guess I could use something besides IE there... but I just don't really care enough to do it.

"All <browsers> take you to the same internet... why pay to get there faster?"

I thought you were my internet girlfriend... ?

I liked Casino Royale quite a bit.  Maybe if you'd suffered through more of the Brosnan movies- you'd have been as ready for Daniel Craig as most of the rest of the world.

I also really like FF and FF:RotSS.  The humor works for me.  Yes, there is some miscasting, but I think Alba does well enough.  Chris Evans as the Torch is funny.  It's lighthearted and I can watch it with my kids... what else do you need?

Abyss in HD?
Time

While I can appreciate a nice DVD on a nice upscaler... 1989 The Abyss is not a nice DVD.  It's letterboxed, not anamorphic- so right there it's about 60% of the resolution it should be... so I've been  waiting for the a new DVD or a BD to come out... but I've wanted to watch it recently.  Has it been in HD on TV anytime?  Are there HD rips of it available anywhere?

CGI has no place in American Graffiti. It was not there in the original release. I don't appreciate it in THX 1138 or Star Wars trilogy or Raiders of the Lost ark either.  Whats next willow?

Erm... doesn't Willow already have CG in it?

I saw the trailer for that Lars movie and I nearly puked. No thank you. But then I'm not complaining about the lack of originality in Hollywood. Though I'd certainly agree with any view that looks down on Avatar and the recent Transformers movie.

What about it almost made you puke?  I had seen the movie poster all over, but I hadn't seen the trailer prior to seeing the movie.  It seemed better to me that I really had no idea where it was going.
