The Producers (2005) - Extended Edition (Released)

Does it show up as "seederless" on your client? I think Demonoid's website says that the DVD-5 version has two seeds and the DVD-9 version has one. I'm definitely seeding it right now, but my BitTorrent upload speed is very slow, so if you're offering to seed it, I'll send you a copy.

Or, as I discovered, I can send files over AIM at 380kB/s (as opposed to about 5kB/s or less on BitTorrent!) so that's also a (more cost-effective) possibility.

Anyone got the original 'theatrical' release of TPM or AOTC?
Time
Someone just pointed me to this thread, and I only skimmed it so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but... I'm pretty sure that the official PAL VCDs released in Singapore (these are licensed releases, not bootlegs) are transfers of the pan-and-scan laserdiscs (i.e. theatrical editions of TPM and AOTC, special editions of the OT, don't know about ROTS). I've seen them, and I've got to say that the video quality's pretty good for VCDs. I'm sure they're way better than cams (and since the VCD resolution is low to begin with, I'm glad they're pan-and-scan, which I would never say about a DVD).

Sure, I can torrent it, but my BitTorrent connection is often VERY slow (I think my college network throttles it somehow), so it would probably be much faster to send it via a different route. And I only have the Heresy Mix for the original ADM edit, not the hybrid (though I believe that's coming in the mail =D ).

I can send you the AC3 file if you'd like. Do you use any instant messaging protocol? PM me your AIM/MSN/Yahoo screenname and I can send the file to you when I see you online.

Sounds like either a burning error or a faulty player.

I haven't seen this disc yet (nor have it), and I'm wondering what the source material for this DVD is. As far as I know, a lot of fanfilms are available online as highly-compressed files (mostly QuickTime), which is hardly ideal for a DVD transfer.

Ju-On (The Grudge) series - Chronological Cuts (* unfinished project *)
Time
So, about my edits -- "Chronological Cuts" of the Ju-On movies. Actually, there's not much to describe -- the title says it all.

I've already done the editing for the theatrical Ju-On (using the U.S. DVD release as the source). I wish I could include some of the deleted scenes from the DVD, but unfortunately the video resolution and quality is much too low, and the audio tracks contain the director's commentary. I did include parts of the extended ending (no longer the ending according to the chronological timeline) in my edit, disguising the poor source material by decolorizing the video and adding grain to match the introductory sequence. I'm about to start working on the subtitles. I'll probably release this as a single-layer DVD only, since it's a relatively short movie (92 minutes).

I plan to do the TV movies next, combining them into a feature-length movie and perhaps calling it "Ju-On 0" (ala the Ringu series). Ju-On 2 is going to be somewhat harder because of the wilder temporal interplay.

Ju-On (The Grudge) series - Chronological Cuts (* unfinished project *)
Time

My next project (work in project): “Chronological Cuts” of the Ju-On series (the original Japanese movies upon which “The Grudge”, the American movie starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, was made).

Here’s a little bit of background information for the uninformed:

There are at present four different Ju-On movies (excluding the American “The Grudge”, which is based primarily on the third but draws elements from all of them):

1. Ju-On (made-for-TV movie) (2000)
2. Ju-On 2 (made-for-TV sequel to Ju-On) (2000)
3. Ju-On (theatrical movie) (2002)
4. Ju-On 2 (sequel to the theatrical version of Ju-On) (2003)

Discussions about the Ju-On movies on online forums are often very muddled, due to confusion over the different movies and their titles. For some reason, the made-for-TV movies are often refered to in English as “The Curse”, while the theatrical movies as “The Grudge” (I don’t speak Japanese so I don’t know which translation is more accurate, though the fact that the American version by the same director was titled “The Grudge” probably says something).

The made-for-TV movies are significantly shorter than the theatrical movies. One problem with the made-for-TV Ju-On 2 is that it spends half of the movie rehashing and expanding scenes from its predecessor. Contrary to popular belief, the theatrical Ju-On is not a remake of the original made-for-TV movies, but a sequel of sorts (which may or may not contradict the original movies, depending on your interpretation of some events). Each of the four movies contain six disjoint segments, each preceded by a screen displaying the name of one of the main characters in that segment (almost always a victim). The segments are often not in chronological order, sometimes jumping a whole generation foward or backward.

In Singapore, the four movies were released as a trilogy on VCD and DVD. The two made-for-TV movies were edited into a feature-length movie titled “Ju-On: The Prequel” (unfortunately, they used the original versions of some scenes from Ju-On that were extended in Ju-On 2, resulting in the omission of some footage that was in Ju-On 2), while the theatrical movies were titled “Ju-On: The Grudge” and “Ju-On 2: The Final” (I have no idea where the subtitle “The Final” came from, and rumor has it that a third theatrical Ju-On may be in the works, though the director is probably giving priority to the American sequel). I bought this “trilogy” on VCD as it came in a nice box set – though I’m obviously not going to use VCD video as the source for my edits.

Thus far, only the theatrical Ju-On has been released on DVD in the United States (by Lions’ Gate), as part of the publicity for the “The Grudge”, with some nice extras that are subtitled – I hope they’ll do the same with the theatrical Ju-On 2 in conjunction with the American sequel.

(Side note – I bought the imported 4-DVD set on eBay, which was supposed to contain all four movies, but the DVD with the cover for the theatrical Ju-On was actually an unsubtitled bonus features disc for the theatrical Ju-On 2 instead. So I paid for four movies and got only three, plus a bonus features disc that’s completely unintelligible to me.)

Whew, that was a long post. I’ll describe my edits in another post.

I've made a patcher to fix the chapter problem (for Windows only). The executable file is very small (only 80KB) and will patch one of the VOB files to fix the chapter link. The only caveat is, you'll have to use WinRAR or something to extract all the DVD files from the .ISO image onto your hard drive, then run the patch (and then, if you wish, create a new .ISO image from the updated files).

You can download the file here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/da426a/ (40KB, zipped).

It includes an updated .NFO file with instructions to use the patcher, as well as a changelog.

MPEG2 in Premiere?

Actually, the DGMPGDec/AviSynth route gives you the highest quality video without the need for any video conversion -- it would be exactly equivalent to converting the video to uncompressed AVI (say, using DGMPGDec/VirtualDub) but doesn't require any significant amount of additional hard disk space (the only files you'll create in the process are .D2V and .AVS files, which will be very small compared to the source MPEG files). If you encode your final output with a good MPEG encoder at the right settings, the quality loss should be negligible -- the main drawback being the time cost (high quality MPEG encoding can take forever).

But I need the v1.4 or v1.5 version. I can only download the v2.0 from their site.

What's the advantage of getting versions 1.4 or 1.5 instead of 2.0? (I've never used the plug-in before so I must admit I know very little about it, except that it allows "direct stream copy" MPEG output.)

The Producers (2005) - Extended Edition (Released)
Time
The Producers: Extended Edition version 2.0 (DL version), featuring 5.1 audio (the irony of the version number is fully intended), is finally up on The Pirate Bay, Demonoid and IsoHunt.

I will send copies of this edit to people who are willing to help me seed it. Please e-mail me at ganwuiming (at) gmail (dot) com if you're interested.

Those for whom I'd promised copies earlier, could you also drop me an e-mail to remind me?

Finally, would anyone be willing to design cover art for this? I can provide a hi-res scan of the original cover if you need it. Let me know. Thanks.
