I disagree. While I agree that he is a sick person and maybe deserves the shit beat out of him, I think it is completely out of line for the law to be involved unless he is making personal threats.

I hate guys like this on youtube and elsewhere and I wish them ill, but it shouldn't be illegal to be an asshole. Free speech is free speech. Period.

Yeah, it's very pro-edit/restoration and the nerfherder comment is just a slight tongue-in-cheek jab at the very end, anyone can see that if they do follow the link.

I'm too lazy to follow links, so I'm glad he cleared that up.

Yeah, I didn't follow any of the link either but again I didn't find it offensive. If you spend any amount of time debating Star Wars on the internet, you are a nerd. Embrace it.

So sad to see so many people breaking down and buying this garbage.

"I'm such a hypocrite. Just bought the set"

"I couldn't take it any longer. IT'S STAR WARS ON BLU RAY."

I agree.  I don't want to hear any fan who bought this set still say they want the originals to be released.  If you enjoy the changes and are enjoying this set, thats cool with me.  But if all the people who are on the fence because they hate the changes didn't buy this and this set didn't sell well, we would see the OOT fully restored coming very soon because it would hit Lucas in the wallet.  I bought the 2004 set so I am guilty of 'caving in' but I realized that I was part of the problem back then and no way was Lucas getting my money this time.  As long as this set sells like hotcakes, the more chance we never see the OOT fully restored.

Honestly I think if everyone here decided not to buy the set I don't think it would hurt sales enough for GL and friends to care. We are a tiny majority no matter how big this forum is.

I personally won't buy it, but then again I rarely buy Blurays, CDs, DVDs, etc.

Firstly I cant find the HTML button to get me out of these quotes.

Moth3r

I feel you have miss quoted me there or rather quoted me out of context. I spent fair bit of time watching those fan edits, reading up the various threads and associated websites. frankly I had nothing but good things to say about not only the cuts but the people at OT. I spent time linking back to everyones posts, commented on dedication and skill.

My nerfherding comment was done wholly tongue in cheek and with anything, respect.

Sorry if you feel my homage to the love that members of this board show a series of films that are important to me was in anyway derogatory.

@rn!e from HD420p

1. I don't think it's that offensive in any context. It's both funny and true.

2. Moth3r gave us the link so we could see the context. The moment the page loads it's clear that it's not an anti-OT.com site.

Relax.

I think OT.com is known more as a place that specializes in fan-edits/preservations than a GL hater forum.

My only complaint about this place is the excessive hate from a certain few and the amount of censorship. I know the flaming might get out of hand, but there would be less socks if people could say what they think. That's just my opinion and I'm pretty much against censorship in general.

Amount of censorship? Have you seen the latest announcements in the "Off Topic" forum? o_O

Yep and a guy got banned for what he said in the Off Topic forum the first day it became unmoderated. Granted he was an obvious sock but still that sock could have been ignored by his peers.

I really think I should be clear before this turns into an argument, I like and support all the moderators and would never tell them how to run their forums. This is their forum and they can and should run it however they want. I am in no way asking for change.

They are distracted by the Blu-ray seal of quality.  If it is good enough to be on blu-ray, it has to be great!!

I think this is exactly right. I certainly don't look into a lot of Blurays before buying them. All I see is "Big Trouble in Little China? on BR? for $15? I'll take it!" There are a  lot of old movies that are on BluRay and I, like most people, just assume that they have been given the appropriate Bluray makeover.

I doubt a majority of the population has seen SW as many times as I have and so they certainly haven't seen it as much as most of you guys have. I think if you randomly asked casual fans, they would have no idea what "Han shot first" even meant.  If casual users don't notice the obvious changes, you can bet they don't notice less obvious things like color.

has it been considered before about star wars having its own catergory on the spleen, old and new uploads would be better organised

This is a very good idea.

There are some older Star Wars related torrents that are alive/seeded that probably aren't being seen just due to age.

Star Wars Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO is one. The Holiday Special is another.

RowMan's Ultimate Supplemental 4 Disc Set would be a boon to all the new members who never grabbed it off of alt.binaries.starwars. However, I believe only one of the discs is still being seeded. I'm just spitballing some examples.

If a file is good-sized (a few Gigs), it is a lot harder to get when there is a seeder or two and few (or even no) leechers. I'm sure more people would want such things if they knew that they were there. We're talking some very cool Star Wars fan-edit and fan preservation projects.

Better organization is the key.

I actually have the entire RowMan supplemental set as ISO files on my PC. I'd love to seed these, but I'm having a little trouble getting started. I'm using uTorrent at the moment. I've created the .torrent file and then added it to uTorrent, but it is not seeding. I've renamed the file to match the current one on the systeml: The Ultimate Supplemental Collection - OT Episode VI - By RowMan and changed the announcement to http://www.myspleen.org/announce.php

If someone can just point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

Best,

NMR

Here's the best way to reseed something.

  1. Go to the page of the torrent you are trying reseed.
  2. Make sure the file sizes are the same and rename them to match the files in the torrent (if you only have the ISO file and not the MDS and nfo files that's fine for now).
  3. Download the torrent file from the Myspleen.
  4. In your torrent client (in this case uTorrent) set the torrent to download from the same folder your file(s) are in.
  5. Select okay and if utorrent does hash check, then right click the torrent in your client and select "Force Re-Check"

If you have any problems let me know. There also might be some better directions on the Myspleen forums.

There's a lot of torrents that are easy to find but can't be reseeded to 100% because it's missing an NFO file or something. If that's the case and no one can find the missing file then we might need to reupload some torrents.

Also if you guys find that you are the last seeder of a SW torrent, let me know and I will download it from you and seed so we can keep this collection going. I haven't seen as many of these as most of you so if anything it will just help me decide what to watch next.

We finally got the Star Wars category up!

There are currently 121 Star Wars torrents but many of them are dead. I'm going to try to find as many of them as possible, but if anyone is able to reseed any dead torrents that would be great.

Also if anyone finds a torrent on Myspleen that should be included in the SW category let me know. I tried to add as many as I could but there may have been a few that slipped between the cracks. Thanks.

RSS should be working for people who want to keep up with new torrents. Let me know if any issues come up.

Sorry for triple posting, but I'm not sure how else to give updates without creating a new topic each time. If there is a better way that you guys prefer let me know.

I wouldn't say talent is frowned upon as much as it is certain musical forms are expected of groups.

That's why I never understood the outrage of hate on folks like Rebecca Black or the Jonas Brothers or (insert group or artist that markets themselves to 13 year olds here).

I'm not the right demographic, so why should I complain if I don't like it.  I don't complain if I find an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine boring.

I hear what you are saying and it's a very good point. I guess I complain because I think an entire generation is getting it wrong and focusing on the wrong kind of music. It might be first generation where parents don't need to worry about what kind of music there kids is listening to because it's not Marilyn Manson or Elvis, it's Disney and Nickelodeon boy bands. They are going to miss out on real, meaningful music.

Praise a "bad" movie

Hudson Hawk is like the worst movie ever made if you love the first die hard though and followed that up by watching that, or you could do worse Bruce Willis talk show.

Johnny M is not so bad a movie if you see the Japanese cut and see it as a bad Japanese b movie, not expecting a Matrix film.

I mean what did you expect its the guy from bill and ted.

I think that's what I love about that movie. Bruce Willis has this action star image and I enjoy seeing such an unexpected side of him.

I do prefer the Japanese Cut, and I like its Japanese style with those actors and that storyline. A lot of people miss that and just see it as a low budget movie with a lot of poor line deliveries (The introduction with Rollins is almost embarrassing but I do still like his character).

I can't help but mention again how much I like Ice-T in some of these sci-fi, dystopia movies. He's such an unlikely person to play such strange roles.

Gremlins 2 6.1 on IMDB

I think most people would call this a flop, but I love it's ridiculousness so much it is easily my favorite of the two.

Johnny Mnemonic 5/10 on IMDB

Say what you want about Keanu Reeves' acting skills but he was made for this role. I don't know how Ice T ended up in so many dystopian movies but it somehow works for him. Then just add a horrible Dolph Lundgren cameo and Henry Rollins and you've got yourself a horribly great movie.

I thought the acting was universally horrendous, but I don't blame the actors. No matter how good an actor is, they need good material, a clear vision of their role, and be given guidance and context by the director. That so many good actors could give such utterly wooden performances speaks of bad script, bad direction, and a general lethargy that must have permeated the whole moviemaking experience.

That's very true. If you see good actors, acting poorly it's usually the director's fault. Not that Neeson or McGregor are great actors, but they've certainly been in better movies.

I guess I think those two did well because they played "Jedi" better than I imagine other actors would. Honestly who would do a better job? It's strange to think of big name actors playing that kind of role and actors like Ben Affleck would be beyond horrible.

Graphic Design (non)Contest

http://www.myspleen.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15248

(taken from Myspleen)

A lot of Star Wars fans on Myspleen (including myself) have been asking for a Star Wars category. After all there are as many Star Wars torrents (documentaries, spoofs, preservations, fanedits, etc) as there are MTV, Nick, or Comedy Central torrents. So after some discussion with the other staff, we have decided to create a Star Wars category.

The Problem:
We need a small Star Wars category picture that matches the theme of the rest of the site. Geophage created all the current category pics (awesome) but he is pretty busy with real life and other Myspleen stuff. So anyone who has the artistic ability is welcome and encouraged to create a Star Wars category pic and post them on this thread.

The Prize
Nothing. You'll have our thanks and have your picture chosen, but that's about it. :p  Maybe we'll give you a cool title or something, I don't know.

So post your pics and we can all vote on them...or something. I haven't thought that far ahead yet. Good luck and THANKS!! :D
