3. HDTV 1080p versions released on Usenet awhile back(German & English versions)

I am trying to get my hands on the German & English(UK) HDTV 1080P releases & also wouldnt mind the TB release.

That would be great if you could get these!

I have the "Gkar" release which similar to the TB release expect the crawls & Han/Greedo & Jaba subs are in german. The end credits are english but seem to be from a LD or VHS rip(but i dont watch the end credits so it doesnt matter to me)

I have no problem sending you a copy or you could get the release of Rikter(i originally got them off him)

I have "Gkar" too. If people wanted these, I'll gladly start a torrent for them.

Thanks for replying.

The xbox360 can read compatible files on disc, and play them. You couldnt play this
on a regular dvd players, because its not a properly formatted DVD. Unless of course
your dvd player can play WMV files. My Philips dvd player is able to play mpeg or avi
files burned in dvdrom mode, but NOT wmv files.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates it.

I have dowloaded tons of wmv-HD encodes, and i burn them all to disc, so i dont
fill my HD. Its simple, i just burn to file with NERO, and it plays from the xbox drive,
or the pc drive. (you burn it as a dvdrom, and the xbox360 reads the file)

So does all this WMV-HD stuff, mean that I can't just burn this to a DVD and play it on my DVD Player?
Does this require an X-BOX 360?

Thanks

Help: looking for... 1997 SE TB Digital Broadcasts
Time

Hi everyone.

I was talking with Rikter about these (1997 SE TB Digital Broadcasts) discs and he says that his are full of CRC errors and thus he can’t copy them (and can’t even watch them) to make them available.

While it’s not the OT, it’s still a chapter in the evolution of the Star Wars movies, and I’m sure many of us would like to have the best copy possible for our collections. Since I’m a network admin., I’m on a ridiculously fast connection, so if anyone out there has a pristine copy of all 3 broadcasts, I’d love to set up a torrent so that they’re made available.

Thanks

The Best Star Wars Books?

I think rather than finding a well "tied in" series of books, you are more likely to just find a confusing mess. Personally I found the best way to handle the EU was to check out the abridged audio books from the library (or through inter-library loan). This way you get the gist of what is going on without having to read the whole book, if the book turns out to be pretty interesting or enjoyable, stop the tape, return it to the library and check out the book. If the book turns out to suck, suffer through all four tapes (if you are that determined), then return it and check out the next one.

There are many SW timelines available online that have been put together by fans. They will usually list all the books, comic books, and revelvant video games, as well as the movies of course. Usually the reverse side of the front cover of most Star Wars books contain a mini time line listing where that particular book fits into the time line and what books come before and after. At least the older books did, I wouldn't be surprised if the new ones don't due to the vast amount of SW books published these days. Your best bet is too search google.com for "Star Wars Expanded Universe timeline" or something to that effect (maybe if that doesn't work try searching "star wars book timeline").

Thanks for your reply. I'll give that a shot.

The Best Star Wars Books?
Time
I'm new to the EU and am really overwhelmed by the sheer number of books out there. Is there a list somewhere that details the books in chronological order? I'd love to start my reading as far back in SW history as possible and work forward so that everything ties in and so that I understand references to things past. Any help would be more than appreciated.

Thanks

Seeding, looking for: and upconversion questions
Time
Hi all.

I have three questions.

First, I've searched for Dr. M's and Citizen's DL versions of the OT and have had no luck. Could someone please PM me and let me know where I can find the torrents for them?

Second, I'm a network administrator at a university, so I'm sitting on a 10 gigabit fibre to the internet. I have a gig at my desktop, unthrottled. I can seed like a mad man if people would like to let me get involved. Just let me know. I'd LOVE to help get these great transfers out.

Third, I have a Sony SXRD Wega Television and a Pioneer DVL-919 laserdisc player. As you can imagine, LD's look terrible on my display. I get a little tiny window in the center of the display showing the movie...obviously due to resolution limitation of the source material. Has anyone heard of any mechanism that will take my laserdisc output and upconvert it 1080i over HDMI or Component Cables, in a similar fashion to the upconverting that some HDMI equipped DVD players do? I have a sony upconverting dvd player and it does an amazing job. It makes it very easy to hold out for a winner in the HD-DVD vs Bluray war, in case any of you were considering buying one.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and/or respond.

Info Wanted: The laserdiscs vs. The best bootlegs
Time
MeBeJedi -

I'm starting to get confused here. I've read through the threads, but may have missed something. The source you're extracting from is widescreen, non-animorphic. To make your "4x3" set, have you actually zoomed in and cut the edges of the picture off to make a 1.33:1 aspect ratio, or are you calling it "4x3" rather than "non-animorphic" and still leaving it widescreen (2.35:1)?

Rebelscum-

I have all 4 sets on laserdisc and when I play them on my Pioneer DVL-919, the quality of the 1997 SE LD's rivals DVD on my 27' flatscreen TV. The Faces and Definitive Collection sets are very nice looking too, with the faces set being a little noisier and the 1989 set is nothing to write home about, granted it's an old transfer, but it still blows VHS out of the water. Compared to the LD>DVD transfers available, the LD's on a dialed in player are superior, naturally because they lack the generation loss incurred when the video is extracted to the computer (think copying a cassette tape). That said, seeing the screen caps from the latest 3 projects (MeBeJedi, Zion and Laserman (arg..can't remember if Laserman posted pics...)), it's safe to say that they've managed to severely minimize any generation loss and perhaps have managed to enhance the picture slightly through the use of appropriate filters and noise reduction. I really can't wait to get a hold of these sets and give them a whirl.

Thanks guys for your hard work!

just how many versions do you own ..
Time
early VHS box set
1997 SE VHS box set
1989 WS LD's
1993 Definitive Collection LD's (late pressing with errors corrected)
1995 'Faces' LD's
1997 SE LD's
DVD transfers of Definitive Col. LD's and SE LD's (TR47, Dr. Gonzo, Kristhemovieman, Farsight versions and the 5-Star SE)
2004 DVD's

to get:

Laserman's and MeBeJedi's transfers (if they choose to share it (crosses fingers))
a better transfer of the SE LD's. The 5-star is good, but there is room for improvement and the DTS track is a terrible waste of space on those discs.

Info: OT Bootleg DVDs

MeBeJedi - your menus look awesome! Just they way they should be...simple, attractive, functional and well thought out. I love them!

Nothing bothers me more about commercial DVD's than huge, video-laden menus that take forever to navigate and take up valuable bit-space that could be put to better use for higher quality video.

Top drawer, man! Very well done!

...from the Digital Bits review..

"Because the transfers were done from the original negatives, you're going to see detail in these films that you've never seen before. You'll notice this right from the opening shot of A New Hope, when the Star Destroyer chases its quarry over the surface of Tatooine. Just look at the subtle swirl of cloud patterns on the planet below - astonishing. Best of all, not a lick of added edge enhancement was required to bring out this detail. What else is good? The color palette here is more lush and accurate than ever before. You're going to be blown away by everything from subtle flesh tones to the vibrant gold plating on C-3PO's chest to the bright orange flightsuits of the Rebel pilots. Contrast is also spectacular, with deep detailed blacks and clear, accurate whites. All three films in this set are just going to absolutely blow you away, and the bigger your screen the better it gets. The Star Wars Trilogy on DVD is the best excuse you're ever going to have to go out and buy yourself a good anamorphic widescreen display. Until true high-definition arrives, it just doesn't get better than this. "

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I had read that Lucas said the original versions didn't exist anymore. Did he mean 'exist' as in as far as he's concerned, or was he playing at the originals being destroyed? Since it seems that the former is true, would it not make savy marketing sense to release the true OT in the near future? Hell, I'd shell out another $60 for it, along with the release on Sept. 21, as I know most of you would too. Movies aside, it seems they're shooting themselves in the wallet by not releasing the original version. This seems to contradict the actions of the Star Wars marketing machine, as we have/have had everything from C3PO cereal to a Biggs action figure. It seems that they'll market anything that would make them money so I think it's inevitable that the OT will be released on DVD. Maybe as 30 year anniversary edition?

Yea, no one here does that. Those Ebay idiots however, do. The only money you will pay here is for shipping of the disc and/or price of a DVD R, I believe.

Hmm, I find that remark odd. Both TR47 & Rikter sells the OT Set - for few bucks higher even - than the set mentioned a few post back. Is that for DVD-R´s alone shipping included?

For all the time and effort these guys put into making these sets for everyone to enjoy, I think $25-$35 is completely reasonable, considering that the OT will "never" be released on DVD. Thanks guys for all your hard work!

I, for one, would welcome episodes VII, VIII, IX. It's more Star Wars. I don't agree with all the changes GL has made to the movies and I certainly hate Jar Jar, but I still enjoyed episodes I and II. I have my OT laserdiscs (all 3 sets + SE) I can watch if I'm feeling particularily purist on any given day, but I've always wondered how GL envisioned the SW Universe after ROTJ. How does the Universe rebound? Has balance truly been restored? Is there a new threat that comes to the forefront?

Now I know that many of you will certainly disagree, and that's what makes this forum great for debate, but that's my 2 cents anyway.

Cheers,
Chris
