"software" ?
Yikes!

Using <software> is neccesary to back up an encrypted retail DVD,
but <software> isn't needed (nor desirable IMHO) for duplicating a fan-made preservation project.

but "software" is required to extract the dvd content to the hard drive, whether it's encrypted or not. I used no decrpytion program when extracting these, as it obviously wasn't needed.

Too often using <software> results in a copy that's not a clone.

I'm not sure if you're just taking a jab at me because I didn't explicitly name the software that I used, but for the record it was dvd2one. I'm going to make an image with nero now and re-do all the torrents.

Perhaps it would be easier if I just set up an FTP site for this.

I just checked my discs and the english is there, but when I selected english from the menu, it played german. I had to use my audio button on my remote to select english.

I will burn a copy of the torrent. It's possible that I messed up and stripped the english, but it's unlikely as my software is set to select english as the default language.

@schorman13: I can seed ANH too.

Do you know of a tutorial anywhere? I need to NTSCize lots of DVD's I have...

Or I suppose I could buy an upconverting player that plays PAL discs too. That's probably easiest.

no worries. I didn't take it that way. I get frustrated too when the torrents I want to download don't work. I'm making progress though...in fact it might work now. a quick tail of the syslog shows that all bit torrent on 6881 is now being permitted.

It could be a problem due to the torrent itself. I switched it form TPB and put it on Demonoid, deleted the old torrent and changed the tracker info, then rebuilt it, but my client still thinks it's the same torrent because it apparently has the same hash value. frustrating. I'm considering tossing that particular torrent and starting over with it.

embarassing...again, sorry folks, but we'll have it sorted out shortly.

Thank you for sharing however;

Instead of turning your computer off at night or whatever could you please just leave it running until there are 1 or more completed copies? There has been no seeds now for more than a day.......thanks.

I never shut my machine off....suppose I shouldn't advertise that... But I have been having problems yesterday and today. It appears that nobody can connect with me. I've checked the firewall, now I have to check the IDP. Sorry for the delays, but these are unforeseen problems, as I've never had a problem with torrents before.

bkev: RTOJ will be next Monday.

I received these in a trade with another member of this board, who we all know and love. I have not applied any compression to them, but my copies came on single-layer dvd's, so there was obviously some compression applied to them, either at creation or at some point before they made their way to me.

I would certainly love to get uncompressed copies, in NTSC format, as mine are PAL.

But it is so nice to see the SE without all the colour problems of the 2004 DVDs. This is actually going to be very handy for my edit.

Yeah, that smearing bothers me too...but it's the best I've got, so what can ya do. I'm glad to hear you'll be able to use it for your edit.

Hopefully someone can find the 1080p versions that were mentioned in this thread. Anyone have any luck?

Yeah, I'm going to upload ESB and ROTJ as well. But I guess I'll use Demonoid instead of TBP. I thought TPB would be better since it doesn't require one to have an account. I'll kill the current torrent on Monday and switch ANH to Demonoid (need to rebuild the torrent with their "downloaded from Demonoid" text file). Hopefully this will work out better for you guys.

I didn't know people had problems with TPB or I wouldn't have put it there...sorry.

So, Monday, look for ANH and ESB on demonoid.

that's an awesome idea. i think that's what darth mallwalker had in mind when he offered the english crawls and subs. (and partly why i'm torrenting the G'kar version...dvb but no logos)

I don't know how to do anything like that, so maybe someone will pick up on it. would be cool, imo.

No, my ISP has no throttling for torrents and i usually downlaod torrents at around 8MB/s. I wonder if pirate bay trackers have speed limits though as this should be going super fast.

hmm. curious. Maybe they are limiting it, but I've downloaded at blazing speeds from TPB. We are an ocean apart...i wonder if anyone upstream from me is throttling.

Fist off let me say thank you for this.

Secondly I'd love to know what you mean by "ridiculously fast connection because" i am the only one connected to you and the max its reporting is 56kB/s. have you limited your upload speed for this because if you haven't then i wouldn't call this "ridiculously fast" because my upload speed is 80kB/s and i'm on a standard UK 8MB connection.

No problem. Glad to share.

I'm on an OC12 connection to the internet, so 622Mb/s. I've limited the connection (have to keep the campus up) to 800KB/s, which is 6.4Mb/s, which should do quite well. Perhaps your ISP rate limits torrent connections. I know my provider at home is obsessed with throttling torrent traffic.

What good is that, you wonder?
Well, it contains the English crawl and Greedo subtitles which could be patched into the GKar.

That's a really good idea! how could we do V and VI as well?

Thanks for the suggestion!

P.S. I brought G'kar with me today. I'm just clearing out some space then I'll extract them and torrent them.

No, according to the Galactic Trade Federation (http://www.galactictradefederation.com/), the TB release only has 2.0 English audio. But the G'Kar version has both German 5.1 and English 5.1 audio. What would be sweet would be to have the video from the TB version and replace the 2.0 with the English 5.1 from the G'Kar version.

edit: if I knew how to do that, I would, once I got the TB version from someone.

That was Dr.M's RTW, was it not?
Citizen's would have been more ambitious, but I suppose it's water under the bridge now.

D'oh! I think you're right there, now that you jog my memory. I don't think I even have Citizen's...arg. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yeah, I know the SE's aren't nearly as desired as the OT, but it seems that there are at least a couple people interested in the G'kar version, so I'll set up a torrent for them, and hopefully someone will be willing to send the TB English version my way for torrenting too.
