"Wishful Drinking" by Carrie Fisher
Time

she takes some obvious pot shots at Bush, Palin, and Republicans in general.

I don't object, in principle, to the Bush-bash. Hell, he did too much wrong for my tastes, that's for sure. My problem with the Bush-bash is that...well...the man has been out of office for over a year. And Bush jokes are just easy applause lines now. It's hack comedy, right there with those damn airline peanuts and the shopping cart with the bad wheel. I just want new material. You want to go after Palin? She's out there, go for it. So is Cheney. Bush jokes are tired old hack lines. New material, please.

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?
Time

The Falcon is rushing back to save Luke, the music is pumping, the TIEs are closing in... AND THE FILM JUST FUCKING STOPS SO WE CAN WATCH VADER ARRIVE ON HIS SHIP?!

Oh, come on, Gaff! Jeez, don't you remember how utterly confusing the original version was? Vader says "Bring my shuttle" - first of all, where is that shuttle going? Is he gonna get in it? Is he going somewhere? We don't know! Then, the next time we see him, he's in a STAR DESTROYER!! Not a shuttle, like we had just been led to believe! A GINORMOUS ship that don't look like no shuttle to me! Then again, how would I know in the first place - they don't show the shuttle!! But in the new version he says where he's going and we see the shuttle taking him there! What's not to like? We now have all the information we need!

It's like finally getting to see the Wampa monster feeding while Luke struggled to free himself. Why was Luke hanging there before? Now we know!

AIN'T GOT NO HOME
(Guthrie)
Clarence "Frogman" Henry - 1956

Ain't got no home
A-no place to roam
Ain't got no home
A-no place to roam
I'm a lonely boy
I ain't got a home

I got a voice
I love to sing
I sing like a girl
And I sing like a frog
I'm a lonely boy
I ain't got a home

I ain't got a man
I ain't got a son
I ain't got a daughter
I ain't got no one
I'm a lonely girl
I ain't got a home

I ain't got a mother
I ain't got a father
I ain't got a sister
Not even a brother
I'm a lonely frog
I ain't got a home

Oh, what you say to me
Please say to me
Oh, what you say to me
Please say to me
I'm a lonely frog
I ain't got a home

Saints FTW. As neither the Vikings nor the Saints have won a Super Bowl, I'm on the NFC bandwagon this year. (I usually am an NFC, but when my team is not involved I root for the team that hasn't done it before; when two SB teams have won it before, I root for the underdog)

The Original Vision Post Trilogy: Special Edition
Time

Do you ever say to yourself, "I wish I was more like George Lucas"? Now you can be!

In this thread, post something relative to the topic, as always. Of course, the technology isn't yet available with which to share your Original Vision for the post, so you will have to amend your posts, over and over, until your artistic statement is made. Until that creative nirvana is attained, everyone reading will have to be content with half-finished posts - I hope no one falls in love with them in that unfinished state.

SE Edit: Frink shoots first, as was always my intention. I was very rushed on that day of the posting schedule.

Remember, posts on a message board aren't truly completed, they are only abandoned.

SE Edit: And at the far end of the bar sits a lizard with a rasta hat.

SE Commentary - VFP: I am, to be honest, embarrassed with the half-finished state of the original post. The technology unavailable to me yesterday has now advanced to the point where I could insert the lizard; that was some fine work done by the boys at VFPLM in fleshing out my Original Vision.

SE Commentary - VFP's Rick McCallum: Wow, VFP, that was a brilliant insert of that lizard. Tears are in my eyes - real tears.

SE Edit: Alec Guiness footage digitally replaced with Ewan McGregor screen test from Velvet Goldmine.

SE Commentary - VFP: I am very concerned about OT.com's heritage, and I am very concerned that the posts that I read when I was young and the posts that I read throughout my time here at OT.com are preserved, so that my children can read them. Unless the original posters want to change them, because it's...you know. I hope to God they can read them, children are our most valuable resource and everything, but screw the stupid kids if the original posters want the posts changed.

SE Commentary - VFP's Rick McCallum: Absolutely, VFP. And may I say A New Post has never been more brilliant, more lucid, more vibrant than it is right now.

SE Commentary - VFP: This is the kind of no-bull straight-shooting I hired you for, VFP's Rick.

SE Edit: All droid footage replaced with CGI droids on bluescreen with CGI Antonio Daniels and CGI Kenny Baker. CGI!

SE Commentary - VFP: I understand that there is an angry minority on the internet - OriginalThread.com - who resent the fact that I refined my Original Vision. What these people forget is that ANP:SE was always supposed to be for children. Really, this child-phobic group is taking all the fun out of ANP, which is a shame.

SE Commentary - VFP's Rick McCallum: VFP, they're not the only group unhappy with you; on TheVFPForce.net, one of the long-standing members there started a thread called: "A New Post - Meh?"

SE Commentary - VFP: Don't forget, VFP's Rick - ANP was set during a time when posters were older, slower, and couldn't flame each other the way they had during the glory days. A New Post portrays this accurately, as was always my intention.

SE Edit: Han Solo's "Yahoo!" replaced with the Emperor's scream from ROTP.

SE Edit: Everything in existence digitally replaced with the concept of CGI.

SE Bonus Feature - Ask The Creator:

TV's Frink asks: "Can't wait for The Post Strikes Back: Special Edition!"

VFP: Well, that's not really a question, but...my vision for VFP is that his father, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader were young Jedi together, having adventures, when Vader betrays and kills VFP's father. It's a very macro story, one that will take five more posts to tell.

Someone who looks like VFP's Rick McCallum with an enormous, obviously phony mustache asks: VFP, is it fair - is it accurate that you are known throughout the world as the Shakespeare, the Ghandi, the Abraham Lincoln, the Dalai Lama, the Mother Theresa of cinema?

VFP: Is it fair? That's not my call to make. I'll leave that question to the observers of tomorrow, those who make it their life's calling to pore over the annals of history. But is it accurate? Yes. Yes it is.

Pat Robertson does it again
Time

Well Ferris, I didn't intend that, and I hope my first post reflects that intention of mine. Pat Robertson doesn't taint my view of Christianity or believers in general - my problem with him is solely with him and the kooky things he says every now and then.

The vast majority of Christians I know are good and decent people, EyeShotFirst. Where do you live that you run into so many religious nutcases?

Pat Robertson does it again
Time

I am an atheist, but I have no problem with religion. Your life, your choice to believe what you want. After all, I know just as much about the existence of a god or gods as one who believes - that is to say, nothing at all. It is as much of a leap of faith for me to say that there definitely is no god as it is for a believer to say that there definitely is.

That said, Pat Robertson once again does his level best to convince those on the fence that religion is a breeding ground for morons. To wit:

"They (Haitians) were under the heel of the French...and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said 'We will serve you'...and so, the devil said 'Okay, it's a deal' and kicked the French out,"

What an asshat.

Hey, remember "The Jedi Master's Quiz Book" that was written by that kid?

Wonder what he's up to now...? Probably serving 20 to life at Rikers.

I played my SW Trivial Pursuit a total of (1) time. None of my friends or family members know as much about SW as I do. :-/

One time I arrived at my friend's apartment and he and another guy were playing SW Trivial Pursuit. My friend had four pies, the other guy had two. I jumped into the game at that point. Eight or nine questions later, I had won the game. :D

Baseball question for Warbler - (or anyone else who may be following it)
Time

I'm glad to read so many "no" votes here. The issue with McGwire, Bonds, Clemens and others of that ilk is NOT their ability. We all know these men have HOF ability; it's their decision to compromise the integrity of the game they represented which will rightfully keep them out of the hall.

So many steroid apologists go to the "other bad guys in the Hall" argument. Cap Anson was a racist, Ted Williams was a jerk, Ferguson Jenkins was a drug addict, etc. Those character traits are abhorrent, to be sure - but Ted Williams' antisocial behavior did not cheat the game. Jenkins' drug use wasn't some attempt to get an unfair leg up on the competition. Anson's racism may have established the color line in baseball, which DOES affect the integrity of the game. Honestly, I wouldn't have a problem with removing Anson and others like him, looking at the issue that way. But that's going afield a bit, and my larger point is that the HOF shouldn't be restricted to the Stan Musial types - jerks who played the game honestly can get in too, if they were good enough.

I wouldn't vote for him, but his BA is pretty much a non-factor for me; he produced/created a lot of runs, more than the high average guys, with his HR, SLG%, and walks. No, his late career andro spike is the reason I don't think he belongs.
I think it's fair to ask how much of his run production is steroid related. Especially given that he's claiming the reason he did steroids was to help keep him on the field (i.e. the Andy Pettite defense). Staying healthy (longevity) is part of the hall criteria, and you can make the case that steroids even inflated his walk totals.

No, I agree; we're saying the same thing. I'm just saying that he's in if he's did clean what he did while juicing.

Idea: I am prepared for whatever ridicule my question provides, but maybe this idea could be useful for future edits
Time

Let’s say a PT editor felt that the addition of a minor character or two might provide some cover for the shortcomings found throughout the PT. Would it be possible to “bluescreen and composite” new footage to add into any of the movies?

I’m guessing there are enough vocal cues by Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman et al. (between the PT and their other movies) to provide a sort of interaction with the new characters.

Again, I know I’m way out of my depth on the topic of film editing and this idea is likely totally ludicrous. If it’s not, can this be done effectively at all?

Star Wars Trivia?
Time

Why research old books? Why Google? We can make this thread THE place people come to for Star Wars trivia by crafting questions of our very own!!

Here, I'll start!

- In Star Wars, Luke Skywalker decides to learn the ways of the Force and become a/an ______ like his father.

  • A) Jedi
  • B) engineer
  • C) bingo card

- Which actor/actress played the role of Kenny Baker in the Original Trilogy?

  • A) R2-D2
  • B) Treat Williams
  • C) Michael J. Fox

- The composer of the famous "(Theme From) Star Wars" is ________?

  • A) John Williams
  • B) George Lucas
  • C) Treat Williams

- True and false: Andy Kaufman did or did not play a character in Star Wars?

- What showtune can be heard when dialing the name C-H-E-W-B-A-C-C-A on a standard touch-tone phone?

All right! There's a good start! Anybody else got more?

"...I've just made a deal that will keep the Empire out of here forever."

[Doors slide open. Darth Vader is standing at the far end of a dining table. Without provocation, Han Solo draws his blaster and gets several rounds away, trying to kill Darth Vader.]

What a thug! Vader hadn't done a thing to him yet. Solo didn't know for a fact that it was Vader himself behind the Empire's constant harrassment of the Millennium Falcon - how could he be so heartless, so ruthless?

Even granting that Vader had a history of evil acts, we don't have any evidence in the scene that Solo and his party are in any danger. This scene is potentially very, very harmful for any kids that might be watching. For the sake of the children George, fix this scene! Always remember - Han Solo is a good and decent man!

Sarcasm aside, I love how incredibly quick Han is in that scene. While Leia and Chewie are busy being shocked, Han acts. That's classic Han Solo.
