As I said, they are from a quicktime movie (the "DVD Singles Trailer" available in the Hyperspace section of the official site), and they really show too much compression (DVDs have a far better resolution and aren't as much compressed).

To everyone who like to see this trailer (but it's not worth it), it has been posted to alt.binaries.starwars on Usenet. You'll need a newsgroup reader software for that (I use Unison on Mac OS X).

I've uploaded the trailer for those who don't have access to the newsgroup....

OK, I've watched the trailer.....I don't get it.... I mean the trailer unfolds and reads like this is the first time the SE's have ever been released or something...? It also seems like the one big huge selling point is that you can buy them individually....WOW Really? Thanks a lot.....LMAO Why would that be enough of a reason for anybody, SW fan or not, to get excited over this release? And yes, all you get is just a brief mention of the "bonus" footage.......unbelievable....it's just surreal....

Does anybody remember the show "Candid Camera"? I feel like I'm on that show right now.........

If this account is true, then some of the Lucas Fan Boys on this forum that were completely in love with the Lucas OOT release might need to get ready to eat their words.... I'm talking about a certain subset of members here that would consistently bad mouth the fan restoration projects and blindly praise Lucas for being so generous.....

I wonder how crow tastes. Yummy.....

The guy just spits out whatever his puppet masters at LFL tell him to. He's a businessman just like the rest, which means, of course, that he's full of shit.

"ViewMaster Format" I about swallowed my tongue when I read that......VERY funny comment. Made my day, thank you.

They showed some examples straight from the DVD and the film looks exactly like those bootlegs out there of the laserdiscs. A little washed out, pixelated and strobey.

I know of at least one "fan restoration project" that won't be "a little washed out, pixelated and strobey".....
MeBeJedi, may the force be with you......we need you now, more than ever.

Thank you for all your hard work this summer....my wife's a HS Math teacher, so I know how important your summers are.....

P.S. Off the subject of Star Wars,....aren't you glad you don't teach at a all year around school? My wife would go bonkers.....summer vacation is as much for the teachers as it is for the students.....

I like to think that it just arrived a split second before the DS explodes.....the commanders on board see the DS explode and freak.....partly because they just can't believe what they just witnessed and partly because Darth is heading back their way and totally pissed off at them for being late to the battle.....commanders are going to drop like flys when Vader gets back on board.......

Remember even the SSD was taken out in ROTJ.....took some time and the sacrifice of quite a few ships but one well placed ship,(was it an A-wing?), through the upper command deck and BAM!...down goes the SSD......LOL

How come 99% of the "fan edits" kick ass over anything Lucas and his "original vision" ever came up with? LOL

Adywan, VERY NICELY DONE......I especially like the command ship in the distance.....I guess that was too obvious for Lucas and Co. to think up by themselves.....

I'm sure I speak for quite a few Padawans here that we can hardly wait for your edit to be completed....

Even in that short clip, you made the SE of SW alot more enjoyable to watch...thank you.

That's great news. One question though, why did you need a DVD burner in order to "download" copies of the OOT from MySpleen?

MySpleen doesn't care if you have a DVD Burner or not..... I hope you didn't think you needed a burner before you could download anything....

You do know you can watch the movies you are getting from MySpleen and elsewhere, on your computer, without a DVD Burner....

Don't confuse personal preference or opinion with pure cold scientific fact. Opinions can vary widely as to what format or medium actually "looks" better; this thread is a testament to that.

But as too what beats what in resolution, there is zero argument. Facts are facts people. But when you come across people that will argue about something that isn't based on someone's opinion but technical mathematical data, that's just maddening and a little sad.

With each post, my smile gets bigger and wider.....to find out why, I refer the reader to page 5 of this thread.... first post, at the top.

The irony is the more ridiculous the argument by Boris, the better and more detailed the responses to him are, the more I AM LEARNING. These last three or so pages of this thread have been an education to say the least.

To Boris:

Boris you are entitled to your opinion...that's fine...it's just your "opinion" is just utterly and completely wrong....LOL

At least base your opinion on a solid foundation of facts and technically correct data....It's like you are in your own little version of reality where the laws of physics are unique, where 2+2=3 or sometimes 5..... but from what I have seen of your posts I think you adopt the antagonist viewpoint just to have something to argue about, it doesn't matter how absurd your argument is, you just love to argue. That is what is so maddening to the rest of us, Boris....it's like we are all arguing about if the sky is really blue or not....to you it's a shade of purple or maybe green.......NO it's BLUE! ARRRHH!

To Frustrated OT members:

It is my "opinion" that Boris is here to engage in argument. He is not here to LEARN anything....if anybody here thinks that they can persuade Boris to change his mind, good luck. LOL. I'll give him this, at least he is consistent.

I'm certain that any 35MM print will not have as much picture information as 720p, let alone 1080p. Although there's a clear difference in quality with the 2004 DVD's to the 1993 LD's - most of that was achieved through digital filtering and image processing. If they transferred it again, and only removed large, visible, obvious deformities - it wouldn't be that different to the 1993 master, even if it was scanned at 720p or 1080p.

Boris, when it comes to the subject of "resolution", you have no idea what you are talking about....ZERO. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....

Educate yourself by visiting this link

and just in case you don't make it that far, here's a little part that you'll want to know about...

Resolution in various media

* DVDs have roughly 500 lines (or TV lines, or lines per picture height).
* High definition television has 1,080 lines.
* 35mm movie film is scanned for release on DVD at 1080 or 2000 lines as of 2005.
* 35mm optical camera negative motion picture film can resolve up to 6,000 lines.
* 35mm projection positive motion picture film has about 2,000 lines which results from the analogue printing from the camera negative of an interpositive, and possibly an internegative, then a projection positive.
* Newer films are scanned at 4,000 lines, called 4K scanning, anticipating any advances in digital projection or higher resolution in flat panel display.

Let's see DVD = 500 lines of resolution ...... 35mm motion picture film has about 2,000 lines of resolution

Take the time to learn about something BEFORE you make a fool of yourself.
