The Phantom Menace -Theatrical Version - NTSC DVD- ADYWAN - NOW AVAILABLE

It would be pretty easy to rebuild using pgc edit.  You'd just need to rip all of the streams using DVD Decryptor, or something similar, and then remux using your new ac3 file.  You could create a very simple DVD with just the film and (as long as you've recreated your chapters) you can replace the main movie (VOBs) in your original dvd with the one from your newly created version,  using pgcedit.  This way you don't have to do any work to recreate the menus or programming of your original DVD for the newer version.

If you share the ac3, I could redo this within a day and repost to a.b.starwars.

fishmanlee strikes me as someone who is either very, very young, without English as a first language or really struggling with basic language/communication skills as often his posts make very little sense to me (as do some of his edit choices). He doesn't seem naturally articulate and would benefit from really looking at what he writes (and makes) before posting it for public view.

Ady you have been under a lot of strain and a lot of physical discomfort recently. Silly posts (like those posted over on the ANH:R thread) are bound to make even the most patient person a little more susceptible to comments which get an already sore back up.

You are putting so much work into these projects and this is your thread but respectfully I think a private message, a click of an ignore button on your youtube account and possibly similar action on here would make life easier for yourself.

I always click on if I see a comment from you because I want to keep up with your progress on this edit and if I can help in my limited way.

The best way to avoid the hassle that comes from a conflict is to avoid the conflict and one of the great things about the internet (unlike the real world) is that you can make the other side vanish with a wave of a magic ignore wand.

For people who enjoy stirring up and watching a scrap, I recommend video games or perhaps sports matches because the participants are either not real or well paid.

Okay.  Thank you for helping me.  I've downloaded NZB O-matic and I'm looking at Astraweb's site, because Adywan seems to like them.  There's unlimited access or unlimited DSL.  Do I need the DSL?

Also, when I look at binsearch it seems to say that only some parts are unavailable, or am I reading this wrong?

I apologise to the moderator for this being off topic, but I'm only doing this to try to get ANHR.  It took ages for me to work out how to use jdownloader when I first started using rapidshare, as I'm useless at this sort of thing...   :-(

Once you have your newsreader configured correctly, either NZB O-matic has a search function to find the DVD or go back to binsearch and click the box to download the entire collection of files as a NZB file. Then use NZB O matic to open the NZB and select all files including the par2 files. The par files will be needed to repair any broken or incomplete files once you downloaded them all.

Oh, I wasn't offering suggestions for ANH:R, I was just pointing out that it's not all that special and some of the praise Adywan gets for it seems to be borne of an ignorance of how much simpler this is to do than a lot of people realise. And didn't he say that the new CG stuff isn't even his, that another guy did it. I'm not saying this to pull him down; it's more that I feel other editors don't get the same praise when their editing skills are just as good, and some of them are definitely more seamless than Adywan's.

Simple to do? Do you even realise how much work actually went into this? The only way i could get any of the things done was to reuse elements from the rest of the OT saga. If its so simple to just take elements from the movies and add them into new footage then please lets see what you can do, without the use of any CG. please, create a new full motion FX shot, not just static ships, and create a whole new scene, having to trace the outlines of each elements, frame by frame, matching the motion to your new elements &  then tell me how easy it is As has been pointed out to you many shots and elements were re-used throughout the OT and anyone who knows the films would know that. Many FX elements were taken from previous movies. Very evident in the space battle in ROTJ. Cat and pasted ships, a reused X-wing explosion from the trench run in ANH during the core run, many Stardestroyers in ESb were reused from earlier on in the movie, and the list could go on and on. An this is with a multi million dollar FX house doing it. I am just one man working on a home PC in a 1 bedroom flat. How the hell was i supposed to do new elements for the shots i needed? And please don't say CG because that was something i wanted to avoid and only 1 shot in ANH:R was ever done by using CG ships (the TIE approach)

And you are so wrong about the stardestroyer from ESB being noticeable because it has a more blue tint than the ones used in ANH. I guess you've taken that assumption from the 2004 DVds. ESB has more of a blue tint than ANH and actually the stardestroyers in ESB originally had more of a brownish tint to them, whereas the ones originally in ANH were more pure white. The slight blue tint to the ships in the the new opening Death Star sequence was because the scene was taking place over a blue planet, but was changed to a grey planet later in production, but removing the very slight blue tint was kept. And again you are wrong about the planet below being "badly drawn" because it was actually a hi-res photo of earth taken by nasa and desaturated to take away the earth look.

I also never took any credit for the CG TIEs and made it perfectly clear that they were done by someone else and that i only did the background elements for that shot.

You also made the same comment about the added music over at fanedit.org ages ago and someone told you that there was a purist edition out that has none of the added music, but you still come in here and again go on about the same thing. The purist was made for people who discount the PT so no need to tie anything in with the PT while the other version was to be watched as part of a 6 film saga

This edit was only ever originally for me and would never have seen the light of day if i hadn't come in here. i had never done anything like this or had any knowledge of how to do Fx work and never did this to get any form of praise. I did what i was able to do with what i had to work with and i am proud of it.

I'd also like to ask you if you work in the film industry, a film school student/ graduate or have no connections whatsoever

Damn straight!

Info Wanted: Coloring question regarding VHS preservation...
Time
sunday256 said:

I'm really curious...but how much color loss would you imagine comes from a VHS tape from 1989/1990 if any? Every tape I own of the footage is the same....but a new version of the same music video is up on MTV/Veoh's site that has a lot more color saturation than anything I own. If there are no stills from 1989, how am I to know if this newer version is correct? Should I expect color loss on a promotional VHS version of the video? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Here's a screenshot

comparison.

Colors in a video on VHS tape don't "fade". It's magnetic tape, not film.

Besides look at your examples...which looks better to you? Your VHS example has better clarity and a natural looking color....IMO

So, based on that trailer still, this is (roughly) how the scene must have looked before that orange tint:

It could use some further work, but I think overall it's an improvement. Opinions?

PS: video will follow whenever my computer completes the rendering...

What's not to like.

Have you given any thought to doing this to the HD brodcast...if you don't have it I'm sure someone here could get it to you...

You're right up there with the other super talented people on this board...it would be regrettable if your talents only went towards the DVD when your work could be much more evident on the HD version....just saying.

C3PX, you're right in that this sort of fan community is safest when it operates on a sort of private level. But none of us should ever make the mistake of thinking this is any less illegal. The penalties for copyright infringement are enormous, something no-one would want to face. Over on fan edit, the disclaimer about owning a copy of the original before you up or download any of the fan edits really is redundant. It's redundant because the links are not private. Fan editors sharing between themselves when they all have the original is one thing, but anyone can download from the site, and fanedit.org could get itself in a lot of trouble. I'd hate to see that happen and I don't want people getting in trouble out of naivete, but the site is illegal.

1. Completely off topic

2. Didn't you read what Moth3r just said? If you have a problem with fanedit.org tell them. All your scary pseudo-legal talk doesn't scare anybody.

Less than a week after my warning, the thread turns to shit again.

Listen guys, if you have a problem with fanedit.org take it up with them - don't bring it over here.

And Janskeet - you're banned. Don't come back.

Well, it is a lot easier to ask people who have tried the downloads, and know how to use them best.....

There should really be an official website.

It would certainly help reduce some of the "no brainer" questions.

Not smart. If you have anything to say to Moth3r, I'd do it via a PM.

Lets see what others have to say. I hope someone knows where to get it.

It isn't your fault but for the 100th time its on the Newsgroup. Look there.

Awesome! They NEED to do this again!

Not to sound corny but the world NEEDS star wars? right now.

uh huh....NOT

Ah huh....yes.

ObiRobKenobi2 is correct. His comment was inferring that they need to re-release Star Wars again to the theaters. And yes we could all use a healthy dose of theater Star Wars goodness right about now.

There is a high possibility that once all 6 movies are finished i will never watch the Star Wars saga movies ever again.

that sounds like you're including your own edits in that statement!

is that what you meant?????

Sounds like he meant that yes. I can imagine why too. Thousands of hours spent staring at these movies, going over the same footage time and time again....probably enough to make Adywan sick to his stomach....I'd probably feel the same way too after years of nothing but Star Wars films...

I like the idea of seeing the flaps open on the snowspeeders in the cockpit shots. not sure if i would be able to do it or not but it looks like i need to build something else now. :)

Another 3 months delaying it!

But i don't care how long this takes me to do. If an idea comes up that i think would benefit the edit then i will try to do it, even if it delays the release by an extra year or so. The last thing i want to do is rush the edit just to get it out there and look back thinking "god i really wish i had done that" and not be happy with the finished product.

doubleofive said:

Ady, don't be tempted by the Snowspeeder flaps! You've got enough on your plate already!

And good luck on the canyon. Are you going by the one already in the movie, or designing your own (as far as one can design a rock)?

But i really do like this idea and i think it will really add to the edit.

The canyon is not going to look the same as the original. The first shot as the falcon flies into the canyon looks really fake as it stands. But it is going to match the rock formations we see in the craters so everything matches up.

You could wish "I'd done that." for an eternity though, something will always come up. You always add on stuff later anyway. I think I had better leave this forum for a while (to vbangle's and some others delights), perhaps even a year, it's making me nuts. It will be done when it's done doesn't fly, we've only got so many years to live. That's why I sometimes hate the criticism some filmakers get, they actually have deadlines not indefinite time periods. Call me whatever you want, impatient, bratty, prick, whatever variant insulting synonym you can think of. I'm trying not to be a prick but it's hard to hit a moving target. It's line seeing the finish line up a head with joy, then someone moves it out further again, and again, and again.

So much for a Christmas 09 release, or even release for ESB's 30th Ann. next year. If it's going to take forever we should at least get more trailers, those who don't want to be spoiled don't have to watch them, no one is forcing them. I am willing to donate more if we can get some of that stuff. Willing to donate quite a bit more actually. I want to support this project being that ANH:R is the only version of ANH I watch now. It's beyond terrific.

Thanks for proving me right about you. You're a real friend. Someone I can count on I'm sure.

Hey Guys!

Last night i figured out how to use a .dlc, and downloaded the movie from fanedit.  I downloaded the movie and unpacked it, and so far have not ran into any issues.

I am now uploading the video_ts into img burn, but when I check the audio_ts folder, there is nothing in it!  Is the audio track already on the video TS? Or did I get a bad download?

I would try to test it and make a disk, but DVD-9's are expensive, and  do not want to waste them.

This is normal.

well,

the GOOD news is there will be something good happening in a few months.

i've looked over both prints of 'star wars', and we'll try to get both done,

and see how they turn out... (empire will come later)..

the preservation site is down currently, but will be back up and running,

i'll let you know when..

this will be another great year for 'star wars'..

thanx for the interest..

His "preservation site" is down again and this time it looks like its for good. Negative1 was and is a cruel joke on this community. The man went and purchased probably the last remaining copies of the OOT on film...damaged the shit out of them by exposing them to dust and fingerprints all to get a few frames up on his scanner...for what? What a piece of work. Let's see if the guy has the guts to even show his face in here again...
