What was the worst scene in....................................The Phantom Menace?
Time

Sounds very awesome, as a possibility.

Personally, what got on my nerves the most was the whole cheesy... SWEETNESS of it all.
Ani is like the perfect kid with a cute face who wants to help everyone, Shmi is like the perfect caring mother who doesn't want him to get in danger, but then after one line of dialogue she changes her mind and says "he was destined to help you" (probably the worst line delivery in the scene - after "blow you up, BOOM!"), Ani is all excited about going into the car chase but then his mommy forbids it and he's like "but, Mom... I like it so very much"...

...

just horrendous.

Dial down that childish bullshit, and it would already be bearable.

The dinner table scene with everyone in the Skywalker's home always struck me as a microcosm of so many of the dubious elements in the films. Bad comedy with Jar Jar, numerous reminders of the idiot plot (apparently Qui-gon and company can't trade with anyone else for a smaller ship?), horrendous dialogue, and the acting, oh lord the acting. Lloyd is cringe inducing, Jar-Jar is in full shucking and jiving mode, Portman & Neeson feel like they're practically asleep, and Pernilla August seems as if belongs in a whole other movie.

Its basically at this scene that I sunk in my theater seat and realized that I didn't care about any of these characters. There was nothing engaging about them, and that his was likely the best it was getting.

Ironically, Lucas commented on that scene that he felt like it was a potentially boring drag to the more actioney pace of the film, but had to be there to provid some exposition etc.

Now, everyone will say "what, Lucas doesn't want dialogue, just 'splosions, well figures!!"
It really turned out to be a problem, but only because it sucked so much :D

Breaking the pledge to... agree... with Twooffour. We're guilty of this by, like, three times. Countless times we've accused new members of being Zigfried or the like (although with JediTray's alternates it was the truth.)

I swear, you guys are killing me.  Please go back to the original post and re-read the pledge.  There are no exceptions, either you follow it or you don't.  The next person who breaks the pledge is off the list.

...

What an idiot.

I've seen this on numerous other boards - whenever a troll or unpopular user popped up, the whole board started being about him, and as soon as he was banned, or disappeared, everyone still kept talking about him and suspecting him to be behind any suspicious new troll or sock that crops up.

Seeing this predictable pattern happen again and again (with little variations) is deeply satisfying.

Worst Dialogue from............................The Phantom Menace!
Time

Actually, I'd say he IS subtle and believable.

His character gets a bit boring at times, yet keeps the viewer interested as he conveys a feeling of something slumbering beneath the surface.
He's a bit sleazy and over-ambitious, yet at the same time sympathetic and appears morally upright.

He obviously likes the outlook of becoming a chancellor, but it's hard to tell whether he exploits the situation for his own gain, or just kinda glad at the opportunity while still caring about the crisis.
When he proposes his idea, he kinda becomes suggestive and lowers his voice, and it's unclear whether he genuinely wants to help but realizes the implications of his ambitions, or really just wants power and plays the former role.
When he's about to win, it's unclear whether he's desperately trying to hide his betraying euphoria, or is merely temporarily taken in by his success only to be reminded by Padme what really matters.

Excellent playing by McDiarmid, although, in retrospect, Palpatine should've been a much better actor than that - he shouldn't have given away a VIBE of his ulterior motives.
But maybe the character was growing and gaining skills, too... whatever.

There are a few scenes in ROTS where he, after his transformation, acts on par with his ROTJ performance and gives off equally memorably lines - but the rest of it is obviously him having fun.

Oh noes! Somebody on the internet who I've never met doesn't like me! Oh, the humanity!

I'm not necessarily referring to "He Who Must Not Be Named" above me. In general, I am immune to internet insults.

Yea, talk about "defensive reaction".

The point is that you deserve being disrespected and deemed an idiot for supporting that idiotic accusation.
Anyone can cross their arms and blend out the incoming "insults" - we have that firewall. Not anyone can start to make sense without effort, and that's where you fail.

So congrats on the awesome achievement, Ms. Ostrich. I see there is a depth to your personality, and things have a low chance of penetrating that secure surface of yours.

You know, the more I think about it, the more twofortwo makes sense as our sock. I have never heard "butthurt" from anyone before, and it is unspeakable stupid sounding, yet twooffour thinks it is incredulously cool.

If twooffour were to make a sock, it would make sense he'd have it say "butthurt" to prove that it is indeed a very cool and commonly used meme.

Of course, I fully admit that this is very likely what our sock was going for and that his use of "butthurt" (dah, it hurts to type that!) was intended to make us think it was twooffour, who is, quite frankly, very likely the only person over the age of 8 that thinks it might be a cool word to use.

So in other words... this post is pointless and has gotten us nowhere. :D

POTD

Haven't we already resolved this "controversy" by linking to KnowYourMeme or something?

Yes, it is a popular internet term, lots and lots of people use it, and lots of people find it cool. The fact that you've never heard it from anyone else, is your problem I'm afraid.
In case you wanna know, I learned this word when it was used by someone else (or rather a gang of superior intelligence) against me for some stupid shit I was posting.

You two are idiots and I've lost what little respect I've had for you.
Just dumb.

Putting the Scene Where Leia Chokes Jabba In an Entirely New Light
Time

Sorry, nope. The same thing could be said about ANY choking scene ever put in a movie - the difference between that and erotic asphyxiation (the reason David Carradine died) is that the choking is inflicted as a means to kill.

Leia wanted to kill Jabba. The end.

Although I never quite got how... was Jabba's neck at his back??

Well.... There's a bit of a sexual element between Leia and Jabba. Jabba wants Leia, makes her wear that bikini, licks her face... Leia is revolted. That's about as far as it gets, but it is sexual.

Yea, I just couldn't see how you could extend that to the choking scene - always looked to me like Jabba was rather distressed by it.

Makes me think of GoldenEye - when Famke Jenssen begins to choke that old fart, he seems pretty terrified and in pain (even though he'd liked it rough up until then), but then when Bond discovers his corpse, it has a stupid grin on its face :D
While comically absurd, they kinda made more of the whole innuendo thing, didn't they?

God, that movie's awesome. :D
