John Williams vs. Prequel Trilogy

Ah, many thanks for that!
(Always wanted to transcribe the Hangar music, so this may come in handy, as well :D)

Although I have to say, I kinda prefer the film version.
The music only setting in when the army is activated fits better than the same music setting in when they're basically standing around thinking what to do next.

Also prefer the "epic reveal" of Darth Maul, and the space battle opening has a more effective call-and-response when switching to the enemy ships.

This one would've worked, too, though, in a different way, and I like alternate takes and experimentation, so cool :D

Happy Birthday Mark Hamill - September 25th

I have a lot more respect for Mark than any other actors I can think of. Mark seems a really cool down to earth guy. He gets a lot of crap about not having gone anywhere, but to me it seems he sticks to working on the kind of things he likes. It doesn't even seem that he has sunk really low like a lot of actors, he has made appearnces on many sitcoms, countless voiceovers for video games and cartoons, and he has done a lot of work on comic books. And I think he has produced a few things also. He has a family that he hasn't abandoned or screwed over (at least last I heard of) hasn't had countless trips to rehab for drugs or alcohol (again last time I checked), which is about all you will hear about Hollywood these days. Also there is not much you can say about his acting ability if you compare him to many of todays crappy actors.

As for Harrison Ford's career, has anybody here seen Firewall? I haven't. And nobody has told me I am missing anything. The last time he was in some good original movies was back in the days of Patriot Games, since then he has been in nothing new (well, not until something called What Lies Beneath, but lets not talk about that ).

From the snippets I've seen, he was pretty cool in Cowboys&AnalienProbes.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

If an alien species is eavesdropping on us in order to determine our intellectual and moral worth, what do you think, will they get a more positive impression if they hear a lot of talking, or if they hear a lot of sighing?

It's a rhetorical question, and I declare I'm going to bitch about anyone who'll disturb our opportunity to join the great aliens in their scientific quest of space exploration.
Do NOT blow this one for us, you...

Well, I think the main problem lies in the way the scenes are put together - had the conversion happened at an earlier point with some stuff inbetween, the Jedi Temple attack could've been more believable.

So I tend to overlook the scriptural (;) context when talking about music choice and the like - I just think it was somewhat meh and anti-climactic for the scene (and evidently so as it was c&p'd from some wacky arena scene with wisecracking heroes stabbing giant enemy crabs).
It kinda works on the level that it represents Anakin's mind at the time (not evil and hate-filled, but cold and focused, marching forward with a "what has Tobe done" attitude - and for an idealistic march theme, the piece is actually pretty dark) - but overall it's kinda lame.

Not the kind of abomination unto the LORD to me as it seems to be to you, though :)

Ok, I can't think of any other examples of that other than the Genosis landing scene (taken from the TPM opening scene) - it did fit the sequence, though.
(Maybe Williams ran out of ideas for "mysterious ship arrival on a foggy planet" after composing the assassination bit? That was a cool one, as well.)

The moment in which Anakin turns from grief to wrath was brilliantly captured in the music, imo. Sent a shiver through my spine the first time I saw it, still does.

Could anyone explain to me how the score doesn't fit into the PT movies? Or some examples of flaws / hackneyed work?

I believe to have paid enough attention to this stuff when I used to watch these movies, and it always came off rather well to me.

(The "arena" track that you can also hear on the Clones DVD menu, has been replaced by the AniPad love theme, and inserted into the Evil Jedi Temple march in ROTS instead; given how awful the romantic scene preceding the monster fight was, and how this track doesn't sound evil enough for the scene it was eventually inserted into, I'd say overall it wasn't the smartest decision, but it didn't seem awful or disturbing or anything like that.
The music that hits in when the Jedis arrive has been taken from the Podrace (which instead used the same track from the Nubians' "shield crisis"), but fits pretty well anyway.

At any rate, there's some awkward "copy&paste" thing going on in the PT, but never to a level of badness imo.

The only part I didn't like was the Conveyer Belt that kept jumping between the eponymous track, the Force them and AniPad. It was bearable, though.)

What was the worst scene in....................................The Phantom Menace?
Time

1. I thought the Podrace looked awesome - nothing about the metal thingies or the sand and rock looked fake to me.
A pretty awesome sequence overall (the podrace, not the intercuts... "did he crashed???"), even though totally devoid of character.

2. I think a big chunk of the lava in III was actual footage. Not all of it, though.
