Personal Quest to Learn Over 20 Languages
Time

So because I'm not making the kind of progress I want on this quest I'm going to try to focus on it more. In order to do that I'll be taking a three week break from posting on threads here. As explained here I'll still be open for communication via PM I just won't be posting/browsing the threads. I'll be checking my PM inbox every other day. So if you got something to ask me do it via PM and I'll get to it in a day or two.

From this moment I'm giving myself about 30 minutes left to post a few more posts. I had intended to post more between my announcement that I was taking a break and now. I just didn't do it because of several factors. So I'm sorry for that. My fault and I'll try to post a lot more when I return.

So on Thursday night I'm going to start an extended break from these boards. Basically I'm not making the progress I want to make on my language learning quest. So I know I need more focus on my goal. In order to do that I'm taking a three week break from posting in threads here.

To be clear I'll still be open for communication here just through private messages. If you want to ask me something pm me and I'll answer it within a day or two. I just need more focus and thinking about the various threads to post to here strips some of that away. Tumblr and twitter don't really take away from my focus because I don't post there that often. I also care more about these boards than twitter or tumblr combined. So I'm still going to be active on those too simply because they don't take away from my focus on my goal. I'll make one last post here Thursday night then I'll start my break from posting in threads here.

Yeah i saw the original first a long time ago and I only watched this one because The Nostalgia Critic was doing it and I like the watch the movies for myself before seeing his reviews because once in a while I don't agree with them.
There are also times that he misrepresents and messes up the timeline of a plot in his reviews. Like his review of the first Power Rangers movie. The timeline of the movie is a lot less messed up than his review would have you think.

A thought on Prequel Radio Dramas.

So what's the end goal of this? Something that's near to the prequels we got just with better dialog exchanges and some character development from other sources? Or something that just rewrites things to whatever you want? I'm kind of getting the vibe that it's going to be both from this thread and that's just a recipe for a mess. I think just how far or close to the film prequels you want it to be should be decided to maintain consistency.

The people around here are very good at cleaning up the mess made by dogs and facilities are pretty well laid out for this in our neighbourhood but as nobody 'walks' their cat with a plastic bag ready to scoop up the item cat poo is more of a problem here.

I can understand your concern if that isn't the case where you live.
That's alright our experiences are obviously different. It's just the "pooing everywhere" statement in regards to cats didn't mesh with what I know about cats at all. Healthy cats at least. Then using that to support the "verminous as the rodents" statement. Course from what I've known of the dogs that did go everywhere it's not like it was a daily occurrence or anything as frequent like that. But it happened enough and they were healthy dogs that were trained to sit and stay and whatnot. They just couldn't train them not use many areas as a toilet eventually.

The neighbours and myself have tried everything we can to stop it including using lion poo from the zoo.
Unfortunate as that may be it doesn't negate my experiences. It's also odd to bring up since I was clearly talking about dogs using furniture as a toilet and cats not doing that unless they're sick. Your front lawn isn't furniture. I'm talking about well raised dogs from this now ex-couple I knew that know so much about dogs. They loved and cared about dogs so much. They could even train them but yet they couldn't stop their healthy well cared for dogs from using their couch as a toilet. Edit: Also their floors, their bed, pretty much anywhere the dog was that was convenient for it./Edit Never known a cat to do the same unless sick.

I also have a fondness for garden birds and our neighbours have small children so in my view cats with their killing and pooing everywhere are as much verminous as the rodents our civilisation initially kept them to keep down.
I've yet to see a cat just use everywhere for it's restroom. Maybe some cats do it but I've most often seen such behaviour from dogs. Even dogs that were kept in prime environments with all the comforts a creature could desire. Didn't stop such dogs from using their owners couch as a toilet. Never have I known a cat that wasn't sick to do the same thing. Just my personal perspective on things, your experience may vary.

Was that idea ever mentioned before that one episode of Enterprise?  I am not saying you are wrong or it wasn't I just can't remember that idea ever being brought up before and I am pretty sure I would have remembered something like that if I had heard it mentioned on the show when i was a kid.
In an episode of Enterprise I think they answer some kid's questions. That was one of the questions. Someone explained something about how it does get converted into useful things, like boots.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

This scientist debate reminds me of when I commented on a vid presentation by a Neuroeconomist about "self-control". I commented how the base idea of "self-control" presented via the experiments shown were initially flawed. Some other commenter insisted that those experiments shown were not the actual experiments just there for demonstration purposes and what the actual experiments were aren't relevant to the vid itself. Which, if so, is just so much of a waste of time and misinformation to the public about what they actually did to get their conclusions. It was the actual basis for nearly everything the vid was about. Of course the actual data is relevant! Nonetheless they tried to defend the vid so much, even decrying a summation of the actual experiments in lieu of dramatizing some made up script of theirs.

So yeah I totally get the whole "defending scientists" thing DrCrowTStarwars is talking about. Maybe it doesn't get that extreme but it is there.

I don't get this sperm argument you are trying to make.
Alright so first off, this is a discussion that I didn't even want to get into. It's simply something that bothers me about this whole thing. There's all this talk of preserving potential life but the line is conveniently drawn at making it inconvenient for guys. It's as though making them preserve the potential lives in a freezer is way too much to ask for. Yet when it comes down to the health and life of women it's like "tough you had sex. Deal with it." Equating it with slave labour, reckless car crashes and the like.

Warbler said:

1.  why are you always trying to argruing about the value of a sperm cell and not that of an egg cell?  Logically, whatever value is of a sperm cell, the egg cell should be valued the same
Of course, heck as Frink points out there's even more value in an egg cell than a sperm cell. Though an egg cell really can't be preserved as easily as a sperm cell can. Going to donate sperm isn't exactly the invasive procedure donating eggs is. Could even get a mini freezer and preserve the sperm in the comfort of your own home.

Warbler said:

2. why is it so difficult for you to understand that sperm is just a cell?  Yes it has the potential to create a human life if joined with an egg cell, but until then it is just a cell.   There is a big difference between something that has the potential to create a human life, and something that actually is a human life.  It is when the egg and sperm combine that a new separate and unque human life is created.  Again, you don't have cake batter until the ingredients are combined.
It's not difficult for me to understand it's a cell. Though the big argument here is about what makes a person. A fetus is still not the same as a baby that has been born. Especially in it's early stages when if someone were to put it on the table right in front of your eyes you wouldn't see a damn thing.

Unfortunately, nothing can change the fact that nature gave the ability to carry the child to term to the mother and not the father. However unfair it is, it can not be helped. Please also remember that men who are not decent and honorable, can be forced to pay child support. Which does lead to an interesting question. If the father wanted the child aborted and the mother decided not to abort the child, should a father have to pay child support in that case? Can a father absolve himself of all legal responsiblity for the child because he wanted it aborted and the mother said no? Kinda seems unfair to me that with abortion, a woman has the ability to eliminate all responsiblity for the child, yet the father has no option of avoiding legal responsibility.
Is it really unfair when, as it's been reminded to me in these recent posts, even if a woman does get an abortion there are still possible health risks to her? Either way she doesn't get away without consequence.

That said yeah a guy can still avoid paying the child support. It'd just take cutting off any and all ties to their previous lives but it could be done. Basically a guy could potentially "disappear" from the eyes of the government. Takes a while, like a year or three, but it could be done and he'd not have to pay any child support anymore. Yes he risks becoming homeless but that's just how it is. Course he could just do it the quick and absolute moronic way too and just sell all his stuff and fly to some foreign country with no plan whatsoever. There are options.

In the very poignant words of my friend Warbler, "That is asinine."  I never said a uterus should fulfill it's purpose.  I'm saying it is designed for pregnancy.  As much as you might want, it will never pump blood for you.  It's designed for a specific function, and therefore the heart analogy was poor.  This example is only exacerbating the flaws of such thinking.

The heart can easily be replaced with a more suitable body part. I figured my point would get across anyway, but yes, the analogy was poor.

I'll have a try for an analogy that can be followed.

Suppose that a teenage girl, out of sheer criminal irresponsiblity, decides to jack a car for a joy-ride. Unbeknownst to the little ditz, someone's little one year-old baby is in the back seat. To escape the cops, she decides to drive deep into a national park and runs out of gas.

It's freezing cold, no water or food, no telling how many hours or days until help comes by. She discovers the sleeping baby.

If she doesn't carry the baby next to her warm body several miles to where they can be found, the baby will freeze and die. But this is extremely inconvenient. There is even a slightly increased risk of great harm or death for the car-jackette.

Fortunately, the rad-femmes and their enlightened backers know exactly what to do.

Just chuck that little wad of meaningless proto-plasm into a ravine and forget about it.

Fine how's this for an analogy. A woman requests an abortion. She's denied it due to laws and the doctors are unable to determine immediate risk of death to her. She and the fetus end up dead in spite of the stats saying "low risk" of death. Oh wait That happened and it was even linked to in this very thread.

Well at least you can say that it was her choice to have sex in the first place right? I mean it's not like there's a risk of being shot if a woman doesn't have sex with a guy right? Oh wait looks like some guy took it upon himself to add that to the "risk" side of women not having sex. Also linked to before in this thread.

These risks are just something I didn't want ignored. You can create a billion different analogies. You can gripe about my choice of organ in those analogies. It won't magically lower or eliminate the risk of death and health risks involved here. It's still there and shouldn't be ignored.
