I found the above gifs randomly browsing through Star Wars related tags on tumblr. To me the original tilogy puppet wins. CGI Yoda has too much of a performance that is too computery. Every movement just tries so hard to get you to except that "Hey look at me! I'm a real thing!" Hell CGI TPM Yoda gifs I found there make him look happy at the funeral! He practically almost goes into a smile. CGI Yoda is not only directed by George Lucas he's meticulously put under a microscope by him; until any natural performance by the CG artists is gone. What's left is the constant "winking to the camera" that yeah the CG thing in front of you is real. Believe us, please, pretty please! Who then gets turned cartoony when it's time to fight. Watto escaped this. Kamino alien clone dealer escaped this. CGI Yoda not so much, it's the George Lucas microscope for you! TPM Puppet Yoda looks like some odd look-a-like Yoda they hired to get drunk before filming. All my opinion of course.
