Off Topic: When did the bolding usernames start, doubleofive? It's one of my favorite quirks of the board, but I'm always slightly concerned that it's actually very common on other sites and I just never knew.
My impression is that he's matched the workprint shot-for-shot, only using the original b/w VHS when he has to. Although I guess we haven't seen this VHS to confirm, the alternate audio is pretty good evidence.

It was the same prop built for Empire. They sealed it up in plastic, and put it in storage until Jedi went into production.
Why they didn't use it for at least part of the rebel hangar sequence baffles me. That wasn't the best matte painting ILM ever did.
I bet all the sand from the sandstorm scene really wrecked the prop. It's rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like CGI. With CGI, everything is soft and smooth.

Do you want to explain that? Because the EU perspective of a bureaucracy and military so large that it can function without its head for a long time is pretty convincing. It's not like Palpatine invented the Empire; he just militarized the existing government, and that military (and cultural change) don't disappear overnight.
