STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

Regarding the Ben's hut scene, I'm a little confused. Everyone seems to say that ady's version follows the script. But it doesn't. I've looked at the script, the theatrical cut follows the scene exactly as it was written. However, ady's version does flow well and it seems as if the scene was shot with that sequence of dialogue in mind. Can someone clarify this for me?

Don't forget that the script was changed for publication to match the released film. Ady's version matches the shooting script - the script at time of filming.

Don't know of Ady would consider this, but a reason to back-up Leia remembering what little she does about her real mother could be that while she lived on Alderaan, her adopted father showed her holographic images of her mother from when she served in the Republic Senate.  It would similarly to the deleted second from "Episode II" when Padme talks about her childhood friends who died and Anakin sees moving images of them on the wall of her bedroom.

I think this would work well.

I've always thought that a possible explanation of the discrepancy between ROTS and Jedi could be that Bail's wife, the one we see briefly with Bail and the baby at the end of ROTS, died at some point while Leia was growing up.  He remarried, and Leia still believed that Bail and his first wife were her parents.  But his remarriage would be a well-known thing, hence why Luke says "your real mother."

But Luke, by that point, already knows they're siblings, so why would he even ask?

I still haven't seen any of the SEs.

 Lucky!

Not for long. I'm going with my wife to see a 35mm showing of the 97SE (ANH) at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center on the 30th of this month.

I hope you know enough about the changes to let us know if it was really the 97 version when you get back. I'm not totally convinced it won't be the 2011.

To me, this makes it seem that his small talk with Luke is manipulative, and that he only wants to hustle Luke into helping him, if that makes sense.

That does fit in well with his whole "make up a story about your dad killing your dad so you'll hate your dad and want to fight him" thing

All Things Star Trek

Fellow Trekkies, I've got a question - and I REALLY hope I didn't ask it on this forum a few years ago (I know I asked it on SOME forum :-) )

I am planning to start re-watching Star Trek from scratch.

I do have a chronological list of all episodes and movies, all from ENT, TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY and the movies of course. Now I want more.

I want to add more stuff to the chronological list

- novels

- comic books

- computer games

The only Star Trek related novels I read were the novelizations of the movies and a merge of a couple of TOS episodes. However I KNOW that there are some novels which are describing the events after Enterprise, or the adventures of Captain Riker's ship, or there are some Khan stories ... If I remember correctly there were novels about the Romulan war?

Comic books - the ONLY Trek comic books I read are the prequels to JJ's movies - and those are MUCH better than the JJ movies :-) But there are some 50 years of comic books going on ... I forgot - I read also Year Four from D.C.Fontana and I LOVED it, unfortunately it ended with an open ending.

Computer games - I played the prequel to Into Darkness, and the 25th anniversary game many years ago. Only now thanks to YouTube I found games like Klingon Academy and Starfleet Academy and I was shocked that these games feature actually "short movies" with the original cast members. Are there more of those?

Well I know I'm talking about 50 years of comic books and novels, I'm sure that there are MANY different books, and I'm pretty sure many of them will contradict each other. I'm not really interested in reading ALL of them, just stories, which are considered "canon" - at least by the fans. Stories, which somehow expand the "universe" of Star Trek - stuff like the comic book series Year Four, which is basically year 4 of TOS. Or the novels which take place after Enterprise. Or the "Shatnerverse" novels - wherever they belong.

The same with video games - I don't want to play EVERYTHING - I'm pretty sure that most of the games wouldn't even run on Windows 8, I just want to play games which somehow "expand the timeline" - I hope at least somebody understands what I'm trying to say :-) Fine examples are Klingon Academy which explains why Chang has an eye patch in Star Trek 6, or the Star Trek game which takes place between JJTrek09 and Into Darkness.

If somebody understood what am trying to achieve, could you guys give me a hint which video games/novels/comic books are "recommended" for a guy who wants an "ultimate chronological Trek experience"? Also on which place do they belong on the timeline?

Thanks

Digital is probably the norm in every film school, and eventually, I think the simple economics will win out :(.

Yes digital is now the norm and the economics have already won out but that's not the point. This initiative is about preserving the option to shoot on film, not fighting back against the digital tide.

I think it is the point. If you're entirely trained on digital, why would you chose to shoot film? It's only the last generation of filmmakers who're desperate to preserve it who've taken the interest. If it's more economical to shoot digitally than on film, then only directors with the box office clout to shoot film are even going to be fighting for it, and once they're gone, the next generation aren't going to care. I'd love to be wrong :(.

You could ask still photographers the same thing, yet they persist in using film from time to time.

You can make a good Star Wars story without Vader (KOTR)

How is KOTOR a Star Wars story? Not a single character from any the movies appears and the story doesn't affect the movies in any way.

Star Wars has become bigger than the original characters for a lot of people. For me, Star Wars is any story that takes place in the GFFA. The original Saga about Vader and Luke will always be the best, but it doesn't have to be the only one. It's a giant universe with endless stories to tell. Why shrink it down to just this one?

That's like calling a Thor movie "Iron Man" because it's set in the Marvel universe.

Not really, none of the Star Wars movies actually had the names Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker in the title. It's like calling a Thor movie a "Marvel Universe" movie.

"Marvel universe" in the title of each of the movies would be... interesting.

Anyway, making "Star Wars" the name of the setting instead of the name of the story is a dangerous precedent. The EU had a good time beating up movie characters and shoehorned Jedi and Sith into each and every place in the name of it "not being Star Wars without Jedi and Sith".

But the setting doesn't have to include Jedi and/or Sith in every story?

If ep.7 goes in an entirely new direction then any hopes that there is a coherent story going on is thrown out the window and its just random episodes where stuff happens like some comic book series.

Yeah, if the Sequel Trilogy was totally unconnected from the OT, you'd be right. But if the ST is about the children of OT characters (Leia's kids, for example) and what they do with the galaxy their parents and grandparents formed, how they handle having Force-abilities, etc, then it's both totally connected and not about Vader.

4K restoration on Star Wars

I just noticed this tweet we got last night:

Lucasfilm was showing restored original trilogy @starwars trailers @Comic_Con this year. Are these available? @swrevisited @SW_Celebration

http://twitter.com/oshanruiz/status/493931616746475524

I'm trying to follow up on this, I haven't heard anyone mentioning any trailers.

Can't decide if these are trailers for a restored original trilogy, or restored trailers from the 70s & 80s.

The only reason for me to make a new one is that the sound quality will be improved by using the most recent version of ABC's score restoration, which he made after the GOUT-synched version was already completed.  Other than that, it should be pretty similar.

For now I'll just go with the existing isoscore, and put out a new one when once I have enough time to make it as good as it can be.

 Oooh, okay.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry. I'm sure the new one will be better, but it's not as if the existing one is bad.
