The reason ABC is turning into the Hulk right now: MP3s are inherently a lower-quality sound than FLAC, and this project is all about the highest quality sound. If you really want to download the FLACs and convert them to high-quality MP3s for your ipod, then do it, but ABC is the sort who wouldn't ever ever ever release these as MP3s.

Concerning subtitles:

I just got an email reply from my friend who was with me at the Star Wars screening at The Senator in Baltimore. He actually has video of the Greedo scene (he'll probably post that online soon), but he confirms that the subtitles are white, not yellow as I remembered.

Just wanted to take this moment to say that on the 1977-1981 technicolor dye print that I saw in Baltimore this year, Greedo's subs were yellow.

To be fair, I, a 10 year old in 1997, didn't realize it looked awful. I thought it was awesome, which is what GL was going for.

Question: I distinctly remember seeing the whole, uncut Biggs, Luke and Red Leader scene, where Red Leader says he met Luke's father. Not in theaters or anything like that, but on TV, around when the SE came out. Entertainment Tonight or something like that. Am I imagining things?

As for the "I saw Luke miss!" crowd, just remember that the music has nothing in it that would fit that event, nor the time for it to happen.

On the subject of action shots, I must say I always loved Theed City's design. Absolutely beautiful.

Okay, so there was that article on sw.com and a panel at Celebration titled "What we like about the Prequels" and it was widely decried as being ridiculous here.

Okay, so the Prequels are routinely called names and beat up around here.

But seriously, is there anything you like about the Prequels?

And don't bother replying with things like "No, there is not." or "The Prequels are terrible." That sentiment is widely known in these parts, and I'm just trying to see what, if anything, people here at ot.com actually enjoyed in the PT.

I think Luke using Vader's Saber for the Vader-bashing scene in ROTJ is a fantastic idea. I mean, really, really, really superb.

Just out of curiosity, any estimates on when you'll have at least one of the films transferred?

The idea that this movie fits in with TOS better than anything else is a great thought. I agree.

As for TNG/DS9/VOY - They make so much more sense if you just assume that TOS isn't canon.

Which ones? I don't remember details, but I can tell you that that opening shot going to Mos Eisley looked absolutely terrible.

Haha. I did that, of course, and turned right around when I saw it cost money. This is, after all, the internet (see other paywall models (newspapers) for examples). No one's been prosecuted for Usenet because it's not popular enough for the MPAA&Co to bother. Rapidshare is a better solution that Usenet, certainly, but I can't remember seeing a reliable rapidshare (and other file sites, yes) search/index. As for torrents, Ady states the problem well.

If you ask me, he should just get Critereon to do it. I mean, Star Wars is a huge part of cinematic history. They did Armageddon and they wouldn't do Star Wars?

I see your point, but there is the newsgroup.  All Adywan's AVCHD releases are there, and anyone can find them and download them however big the community becomes.

Excuse me, there is the what? I'm pretty decent at the whole internet thing, having been on the web since it was called the web back in 1998, computer science degree, etc, and I have no idea how to access "the newsgroup". Very few people use those things anymore; torrent is where it's at, when it comes to distribution.

Okay, so let's be clear on some things:

The scene where Luke's hand is repaired isn't Mark Hamill. It is, however, Luke Skywalker, and it is, despite not being Mark Hamill, part of Star Wars. I mean, obviously.

John Williams wrote music for a scene in which Luke builds his lightsabre. Composers write music for things that have been filmed, not things that haven't been filmed. It's reasonable to believe that such a scene was, at some point filmed. I believe Anthony Daniels even said it was filmed, right?

Thus, even if that's not Mark Hamill, that is the scene, and it's not "fake". The corridor Vader is walking down is seen to be outside the Death Star Hangar in the film "Return of the Ewok", which makes this scene fit incredibly well between Vader's arrival and the Droids going to Jabba's. Even if that's not Mark Hamill and he's lying in that clip, it's still a real Star Wars cut scene.

That being said, people's memories are imperfect. Mark could have filmed the scene and forgotten about it until he saw it again. Things like that can jog your memory, you know.
