not true, but would make a good EU novel.
I suppose it is a sad commentary on the EU that you actually fooled me.

One-eyed monster in the garbage room? Elaborate backstory.
How elaborate are we talking, here? I mean, a monster inside a space-station? I assumed that was not...normal?
aaaand the Ewoks fleeing their villages could result in a much larger Ewok army, which would probably help make this all plausible. Of course, then it starts getting Avatar-y...

The reason that I put my .02 worth occasionally on sites like blu-ray.com, is not so that GL reads it, but so that the myriads of other people who don't even know there is this issue, read it. Far more people read blu-ray.com than read ot.com. And I figure that for each one of us, there are thousands that would agree if they knew about it. I've even met a sound engineer at skywalker sound that didn't know this controversy existed.
What we need is an awareness campaign.
^This. Well put.
Not sure why seatroopers wouldn't just have some sort of water-jet system on their feet or back. Way faster.
But I do love that art. If only McQuarrie had done the prequels.
Okay, I don't think a lack of the Mono track would make it a Special Edition. I think some people would like it to be there, and I know it has some unique things that separate it significantly from the other mixes... but I'll be surprised if it's there. How many people outside of this forum care about it?
Although the sky really doesn't seem purple enough....

the original FX are a huge part of the film's historical value, they were a great achievement at the time and redoing them in a computer totally takes that away, the matte lines and extra grain are just a natural part of the special effects technology of the time.
For the record, this right here is my exact opinion and, I think, makes the most sense. OT-Preservation is about the fact that, in 1977, how big movies were made changed tremendously, and the original special effects were part of that.
I'm stodgy! Yesssssssss

Luke does not even look like a white guy anymore LOL
Ah, no, he looks like a tan 70s white dude. Which...he was. Also, it's friggin Tatooine.
What are the benefits of the OT with recoposited elements (ie no matte-lines) but without any other upgrades? Could someone explain that?

Those obsolete, deleted scenes from the rough draft were considered for HD scanning and inclusion in this set, but it quickly became apparent that such inclusion would leave no room for the 91-minute documentary on Star Wars spoofs (in 3-d!), so George had to put his foot down. Priorities, people.
Can we get citations on this kind of claim or clear notice that this is a joke? The level of conspiracy-theory, demanding-answers, anger, and more around here is such that posts like this can quickly become believed.
I wish I had taken note of the flesh-tones better at the Technicolor screening, but I can at least confirm that the reds should be very vibrant. It sticks out in my mind that when R2 & 3PO are in the little alcove in the Death Star hangar, there's a red disc-shaped protrusion or two behind 3PO in some shots. I remember being shocked at just how much the red popped off the screen.
aha! Thank you. I really enjoyed the trailer as it was, but I sure do like being able to definitively see the difference. Incredible, as always.
Wow, George Lucas casts no shadow!

At this rate, this is going to end up virtually indistinguishable from a properly restored OOT!
Well...no. I do believe this will, at times, be missing the messy black borders from optically composited effects.
You know, I never explicitly realized how different the two are. Anybody know good references for their differences?
Not sure why the Rebel Commandos are arresting Luke, but I'd love to see more of them.
I wonder if Criterion would do the trilogy, were Lucas willing.

I'm glad he likes it and I'm glad he took at least some pics :-) But it's a pity he didn't know before, not only could he have taken higher quality pics but he could also have taken pics of some more original matte paintings, as those would have been an invaluable source for this kind of thing :-(
Believe me, with a little more planning, notice and awareness of this site, I would have tried to get an HD camcorder on a tripod into that place. Or something. That would have been nice.
I keep my friend who took those Technicolor Screening pics posted on when his stuff gets used, and he's amazed at this. He also wishes he had known about the want for this sort of thing so he could have used a tripod, less off-center. But so it goes...
Potentially my mistake, then. In that case, who does A/V right?
I think I've said this before: I think they should probably let The Criterion Collection handle the OT restoration.
