STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

At first I thought this would be between IV and V. Now that would be awesome. Then I realized this will be between III and IV. At that point I got very depressed. This whole era is absolutely huge and I was always hopeful it would be filled with the Star Wars television series. Now, it will be animated and that is that. George was looking for a way to do it cheaply, and this is certainly a way to accomplish that. I am excited to watch it, but at the same time depressed about it.

30 years: Your Memories of Waiting for ROTJ
Time

I remember waiting in anticipation for RotJ. Empire left so many unanswered questions for me. Was Darth Vader really Luke's father? Would it be possible to unfreeze Han? How would it end? How would the rebels overtake the massive forces of the Empire? Would Luke turn to the dark side if he killed Darth Vader, so he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't? Luke didn't have a lightsaber anymore. Could he get another one? A bunch more I can't think of right now.

Then I remember the first magazine articles and pictures showing a bit of what was to come. I felt Revenge of the Jedi seemed strange and thought it was interesting that they changed the name and a good idea. I was excited to see Luke had a new lightsaber and thought the green version was cool. I was a bit surprised to see Leia dressed up in a funky bikini and felt that it didn't really go with Star Wars. After seeing it, the whole Jabba part always kind of sucked for me and I always was looking forward to get past that part of the movie (yes Carrie Fisher looked great, but it wasn't Star Wars for me). Seeing Han in the pictures was cool but spoiled the fact that he would be unfrozen. I liked the new ships with the wings that folded up. I couldn't wait to see the movie and when I did, I got to see it twice which was unusual for me.

J.J. Abrams Will Direct, Now Who Will Score?
Time

I am 100% ok with John Williams doing Episode VII. I just hope it doesn't have a whole new feel to it like the PT had. The original trilogy scores were epic and had so much emotion, and everything blended together well. I didn't feel that way about the prequel trilogy in most cases. I am not blaming John Williams though. Look what he had to work with. I think the music might have been fine if the movies were great. An example is when Adywan used PT music in Revisited during the Obiwan duel, it really worked well and was exciting.

Regarding Man of Steel, I have mixed feelings about it. Initially I liked the idea of Superman Returns using the music, but after seeing the movie, it felt out of place. I associate the music with the Christopher Reeve films. Superman Returns wasn't really part of those films although it had a lot to do with them. Man of Steel is a complete reboot, so after going through it with Superman Returns, I feel that a new score is the right choice. With that being said, this is pretty awesome (blend of John Williams score): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvdBvJi_eRQ

Have you met or seen someone from the Star Wars universe, and props?
Time

Just wondering how many fans here have actually met people from the franchise.

I have personally met Anthony Daniels, and went to see John Williams in concert back in December.

Also, several times I have seen actual props and costumes (at Star Wars in Concert, and in museums, etc.). Luke's lightsaber was particularly cool to see. A lot of that stuff is just normal stuff thrown together with logos from different companies on the parts, etc. I also saw the chess table from the Millenium Falcon.

Exactly. I didn't notice it, and I now will have to listen for it to see where it is in the music.

City in the Clouds from ESB and Final Duel from RotJ are the prime examples.

I thought of the final duel from RotJ after my last post, but I never realized City in the Clouds had a choir in it. I listened to it and it is subtle in a lot of places and I think during the movie the sound effects from ships flying around drown out the choir. There are some more prominent, but momentary places where the choir is singing, but they blend quite nicely with the rest of the orchestra and they don't stand out. That's also one of my favorites from the movie. Funny I never noticed it!

It's still no LAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAA... LAA LAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! :-)

Both ESB and RotJ had choirs in their scores.

But they're waaay more subtle that you almost don't notice it.

Exactly. I didn't notice it, and I now will have to listen for it to see where it is in the music. It's nothing like:

La Laaaaaaaa

Laaa La Laaaaaaaa

LA LAAAAAAAA

LAAA LA LAAAAAAAA

LA LA... LA LA... LA LA... LA LA...

LA LA... LA LA... LA LA... LA LA...

LA LAAAAAAAA

LAAA LA LAAAAAAAA

etc. ;-)

The Star Wars Spin Off Ideas Thread.
Time

They announced a young Han origin movie and a Boba Fett bounty hunter movie. These are seriously BAD ideas. It's so much better leaving these characters to the imagination. Why does everything have to be spelled out so anything you might think about them gets thrown out the window.

I was excited about where VII was headed, but now I am somewhat disgusted about all these new developments. It looks like it's all about profit even more than it has been.

So in that spirit, here's some more brilliant ideas:

Gungan and Naboo conflict story explaining why the Gungans were driven into hiding.

Another Chewbacca story - this time with little Chewie as a kid.

A trilogy explaining how Lando ended up in Bespin.

A Sith origin story including explaining why the term "Sith" was never used by anyone in the "later" movies.

A movie about the Jedi spirits and explain why and how they exist and what they do in their free time, and why they sometimes show up as old people, but not always, and others are only voices. Also explain why some bodies disappear and others stick around after they die.

Thorr's 35 mm Star Wars Trilogy SE Trailer WQHD Restoration (Part-Finished)
Time

It doesn't sound like those are the right ones. I am confused by what you mean by "The first trailer here announces...". Are you talking about the LD versions or the theater versions? The trailer I am working on talks about all three movies and is not specific to just one.

You said the first trailer announces the "SE Trilogy" starting with ANH, so that may be the one I need if it also mentions Empire and Jedi. You can click on either of my links to see if they sound the same.

At one point you mentioned this to me, and it sounds like what I need "I do have a custom trailer disc I made that uses LPCM audio for the trailer you speak of....that is all I have at this point."

Thanks again!

Thanks again guys.

Jetrell Fo: This is the one I need specifically: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRwG9xyQmIE&feature=related

It's possible I have this version of the trailer, but I don't know yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39J2zBB-AyU If you have a higher quality audio than the 192kbps AC3 audio from the DVD, that would be great too!

I am not sure what the third trailer is that you have. The previous DTS tracks you sent were from different trailers than those mentioned above. Just want to be sure you send the right ones. Thanks a lot for your help!

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

starwars.com got revamped and I found this article. I like a lot of the quotes from JJ in the past and I agree with most of them, especially about caring about the characters like Luke, Leia, and Han, and not knowing everything about every character so your imagination is left to fill in the gaps.

Thorr's 35 mm Star Wars Trilogy SE Trailer WQHD Restoration (Part-Finished)
Time

No major updates. With holidays and lots of travel lately, I haven't had any time to work on it. I have more scanned than I released so far. Maybe I will just finish the whole thing before releasing any more clips.

Jetrell Fo, you sent me some audio for other trailers, but not for this one. You last mentioned you might have a Laserdisc with this trailer that you could possibly rip the audio from. That would be fantastic. Right now I am using the audio from the DVD bonus disc, but I am thinking that when it gets to an earlier part of the trailer, I will need the slightly different version with the different Jabba talking part.

This is the audio I have from the DVD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39J2zBB-AyU
This is the audio I need: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRwG9xyQmIE&feature=related

Listen to Jabba at about 45-55 seconds into it.

Thanks!

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

As soon as I heard the news about Disney and Star Wars VII, I immediately thought "now if they could just get JJ Abrams to do it, that would be totally awesome!"

Also, I remember thinking and telling people after watching the Star Trek reboot that I have not been as excited about a movie after seeing it since Star Wars (the original trilogy).

I am totally stoked about this news. Hope it turns out to be true. JJ will do us proud. Put a great story with a great and exciting director and we should have a winner.
