SuperShadow is down!
Time
I love how people post 'Dead Thread' as if they have the authority to declare it dead.

Supershadow's a tosser and he deserves whatever crap gets thrown at him. Adamwankenobi, however, is a disgrace to the name 'Adam', and is most certainly not in a position to insult the likes of Supershadow.

It's like the kettle calling the pot black.

This 2007 Archival Edition - For Real Or Not ???

As much as it pains me to say, this is sadly the case.

You know what? I had a mate who still hasn't watched any of his 2004 DVDs, and when I told him that Hayden's ghost replaced *ANAKIN'S REAL GHOST* at the end of ROTJ, he didn't believe me! So I told him to watch them, and boy was he pissed! Then I told him about the Temeura Morrison overdub on ESB, and he got even more pissed! Then I told him to act on his anger and sign the petition! It was hilarious, yet sad. I wonder how many other ppl haven't watched their DVDs yet...

I love the story, the pace, the action, and especially Jar-Jar. Although, what would be really cool is if for the Saga Box Set Jar-Jar was replaced by a puppet. It would be so much more realistic and fit in nicely with the original trilogy. What would be even cooler is if they could get Sebastian Shaw to reprise his role as Anakin and then digitally alter him to make him look like a 9 year old. They can do that, can't they?

I am SO glad that you are joking. You are, right?

Will this website die when/if the O-OT is released?
Time
I was just thinking, we are HUGE lobbyists for the O-OT. It's pretty much the main focus of this website, to get our hands on the O-OT. But what happens when we finally do? We'll have nothing to bitch about but the PT...

I dunno, just a random thought.

On a side note, I'd just like to tell you all that over the past however-many months, this has become my favourite place to hang out. This is my favourite Star Wars site bar none, and I've easily found it the most welcoming as well. Sure, some of you have strong opinions, but at least most of you know what you're talking about. If I have a question about Star Wars, I'd come to this site, because people on here have an actual understanding of the films. Not to mention the fact that instead of just bitching and moaning, we have a community of people on here who are helping each other to restore the O-OT in various ways, as well as with other films. So, good on you all, keep it up, and have a nice day.

theredbaron's Episode I: The Phantom Menace Screenplay Rewrite.

For now, I have decided to settle with Obi-wan actively searching for an apprentice, as much of the dialogue and plot from the Tatooine segment actually relies on this.

I have finally proof-read the whole thing and made some minor changes accordingly. This will be my near-final draft for now, unless my whole world gets turned upside-down. I feel I need to devise a name for General Grievous' lieutenant, as he appears often enough to warrant a name. I want it to sound Star Wars-ish; similar to the names of Vader's admirals (except maybe Ozzel, sounds dorky). Any suggestions, people?

Watching in order 1-6 is screwing up the original SW for newcomers!

Yeah, a lot of people talk as if CGI has reached a level above models, and I beg to differ also. The reason why models and the like look more realistic is because they are real objects in 3-dimensional space. They have the gritty texture of real-life objects because they are real-life objects. The textures used in CGI are simply not detailed nor random enough to *not* be noticeable, and I wonder how long it will be, if ever, that this isn't the case. Even the detailed ships of Episode III look like they operate within their own CGI vacuum because of this very fact. And don't get me started on the 'Nubian' spacecraft in Episode I...

Fake city. 'Used' space indeed.

*Maybe* if I didn't already know that the Emperor's surname was Palpatine after ROTJ, it might have tricked me. But then watching all the political goings-ons, there's no way you couldn't suspect at least one of the politicians to be him, lest he take the title by force.

But the Emperor is never given a name in the OT. He's just "The Emperor", not Palpatine. So, I guess one could be fooled the whole time, but it would be pretty difficult. I still haven't watched the six films in chronological order, mostly because I don't want to bother with 1 and 2, but I think I might this weekend just to see what revelations arise.

He's never given a name in the actual movie itself, but it's in the credits, or at least it was inserted at some point. Not to mention the label on the action figures.

I watched ROTS on the weekend (first time on DVD, fourth time in total), and I must say, I hated a great deal of it. I was in 7th heaven the first two times I was watching it, but that's because I'm a Star Wars fan, and all that I had been waiting for since the age of 7 had been fulfilled. All I could think after seeing it for the fourth time is that I can't wait to rewrite it...

CGI has made Lucas not try as hard on aspects as the storyline, but I think another aspect of it is that he has basically bought into his own "greatness" hype. He seems to feel he needs to listen to the actors/directors/other production people less, because if he came up with it, it has to be good. Combine this with a surrounding of the same "yes" people, and you have a show driven by only one person. If ESB was made today, I doubt we would hear the famous lines:
Leia: I love you
Han: I know

Lucas doesn't tolerate changes to "his vision" like he once did. The movies are weaker as a result.

I think that CG has also hampered his character development. He used to communicate all his ideas and 'visions' through a human medium, who would then go and sketch his characters, and then they would keep going back and forth with these characters until they were satisfied with the end result. I think if he had CG today and he made ANH for the first time, we would have ended up with Han Solo looking like Greedo among other weird crap.

Myself, I seriously would want the rebellion scenes back into ROTS. He is a fool for not adding them in. They tie together the plot elements VERY well. AOTC needs the Padme's parents house scenes back in as well.

Am I the only one who DIDN'T like the Padme's parents house scene? It was completely extraneous. I, for one, don't care enough for Padme's character to even want to know what her parents and house looks like, which is really the only purpose that scene serves. Any important knowledge of her family (which there is none) could have simply been disclosed in the dialogue. It serves no romantic purpose, either, it's just a boring tour of a Naboo-ian house. In fact, this kind of approach reminds me of the Holiday Special - a day in the life of a Wookie family.

Yep, not a fan. Glad Lucas left it out.

Padme has exactly the same importance as Anakin, Luke, Leia. I don't get why everyone wants to move away her story from the movies. They give them more depth. And, as for the holiday special, that's exactly reason I'm as obsessed with it as I am.

Ahhh, no. Perhaps if Lucas was *successful* in portraying his characters with any kind of depth, and if the actors could act (okay, I'll cut Ewen, Liam, and Ian some slack), then *MAYBE* I would care. But the fact is, we didn't get a tour of Han's house, Leia's house, yada yada yada. We saw Luke's house with his Aunt and Uncle, and Obi-wan's hovel, but guess what? It was actually important to the plot.

I for one have never thought of the special effects in the original trilogy as "bleak, dull, and colorless." I have never been watching the original Star Wars and thought, "You know, they really need more CG explosions and flying ships right about here." I think it has as many special effects as it needs. I mean, come one! They spend the beginning of the movie in a backwoods desert for crying out loud! And then the second third of the movie is in hallways of a command station. Not really much of a need for visual effects beyond blaster fire and lightsabers, is there? And then there's the Yavin battle with so many optical effects that it made Alec Guiness's head spin. And I assume you're only talking about the first movie as being too sparse as far as special effects because Empire and Return are chock full of them without being overdone. Love to see the prequels attempt that kind of balance.

I contend that the PT can not rightly claim to contain any 'special effects'. To begin with, most of the movie is a 'special effect', thus rendering it un-special. Secondly, if you walk out of a movie theatre saying 'the special effects were great', they have already failed to serve their purpose.
