It looks nice, but tbh I don’t understand why people don’t just stick with Adywan’s. It’s like the only one that shows where that asteroid field comes from

I actually got the HD version of his shot, It was perfect except for the camera shake.
I tried to remove it with stabilization, but that didn’t work because there was to much motion blur.

STAR WARS (1977) 35MM 1080p restoration. (WIP)
Time

This is going to be based on the same 4K scan as 4K77, just restored differently and exported at 1080p.
This will also use other 35mm prints including 4K97, for its better shadow and overall detail.
I would like for this to be the definitive restoration, Kinda like Mike Verta’s work. with natural color instead of theatrical color. I haven’t started work so there isn’t much to say about it yet.

(also I wont be doing ESB or ROJT)

The explosion element looks interesting however one of the explosions isnt centered on the planet itself.

Also the explosion feels too plastered and in-static, try adding more dynamic stuff

The explosion of the planet seems to shift to the right mysteriously. Like part of it exploded to the right and then that part becomes the focus. I don’t know if that makes sense.

I think I favor Dat_SW_Guy’s version at the moment. This version of the explosion reads as Alderaan dissolving into an explosion already in progress while Dat’s looks more like the object itself is beginning to explode (albeit very quickly, as in the original film).

Alright, I will re-start this clip tonight.
Thanks for being honest guys.

ESB or TESB?

Funny this thread should come up - I was just wondering this the other day. I’ve mostly called it ESB, probably because that seems to be the more common abbreviation, but realise this is inconsistent with the other films. For example, people tend to include the “T” in “TPM”, “TFA”, “TLJ” and “TROS”.

If searching on Google for things related to Empire, “ESB” is far more lucrative.

I think the reason why TPM, TFA, TLJ, and TRoS caught on where TESB did not is because the first four only have two words if you exclude grammatical particles, but the Empire Strikes Back has three. Same thing with A New Hope, because if you can exclude “the” you should be able to exclude “a”.

Well that kind of ends the debate.
