Wow! I’ve been going through all of your pages on this thread checking out the progression, and I’m honestly in shock and awe! This project of yours is going to be amazing. I can’t wait for the release or even more updates.

If you think this edit’s cool you should check Adywan’s edit. it’s the same as this but 100% better, it’s the inspiration for this copycat edit.

Oh, alright. Well, isn’t Adywan’s revisited edit not finished for AHN yet?

technically not, as the original sd version was released about 15 years ago.

that rocks bobson.
will you do this with anh scenes too and upgrade your anh edit??
thanks

My current SW77 edit is only the Biggs scenes, and I’m still really happy with that cut I did back in 2018. If anything, I’ll go back and do both an expanded cut based on the TC, and then a “”“”“”““Lost Cut””“”“”“”" that restructures it based on the Fourth Draft. Due to the sheer amount of B/W footage in the extended Cantina scene, I’d have to consider what to use and what not to use ultimately. Jenny is an absolute yes though.

This is just amazing. There’s the same kind of giddiness involved as when the deleted scenes were first unveiled. The idea that the films you enjoyed could be given a totally new but old look. And I think in some ways, the deleted scenes of ESB are even more mysterious than the ones from SW77, just because of the glimpses the trailers and tie-in media give.

Thank you! I wasn’t too familiar with how much was cut before I started digging in. As for the first SW, we basically know exactly how much was cut and about 90% of the most remarkable footage has shown up. As for ESB and ROTJ, not so much.

If only we had access to some other remarkable trims, like the cut Cloud City bluescreen footage or the complete Wampa attack footage (which, apparently according to Star Wars Aficionado and JW Rinzler, was filmed). Special editions be damned! This should be the alternative!

All the Wampa stuff was absolutely filmed, as bad as it all looks. Damn shame they didn’t put all of it out.

I haven’t heard of the bluescreen stuff actually being shot, I’m assuming you mean the balcony scene, which was dropped due to VFX limitations and filming scheduling problems. But there is a lot of bits and pieces missing entirely.

Here’s a before and after of the new lightsaber training. There’s no soundmix yet, the music is just temporary. I’m very happy with how the colourisation came out.

Thank you, and thank you for adding that shot in with the others. Wow, the 2020 raw BD looks almost monochrome! They put in more detail at the expense of a lifeless image, and I can see how skewed the raw 2011 colors are now, too magenta and the haze around the planet looks purple. I can better see what you were going for now. Looks great!

You’re welcome.

STAR WARS EPISODE IV - 2020 4K blu-ray Remastered (WIP)
Time

Hello everyone,
I’ve been currently working on a remastered version of the 2019/2020 Blu-ray of episode 4.
Using the Adywan 2018 grade as a reference I’ve gone in and color-corrected the film shot by shot.
I’ve also fixed many of the issues including Detail loss, Static Grain, and displaced power windows.
for the few shots, I wasn’t able to replace, I’ve used the cleaned-up 4K77 Skywalker edition, in some shots that don’t look good on any source, I’ve upscaled / Regraned the 2011 Blu-ray for that one or two shots.
I have Despecialised about three shots in the whole film, including but not limited to The CGI Rocks in front of Artoo, Two shots of the Ronto in mos-eisly, Greedo’s death, and maybe “Dark Vader”.
I’ve made this edit so that future fan edits of episode 4 won’t look like hogwash.
thanks.

Sources:
2011 Blu-ray (Adywan grade).
2020 Blu-ray.
4K77 (skywalker edition).

Software:
Davinci resolve 17 Studio.
Topaz Video Enhance AI.
Neat video version 5.
Dr.Dre’s color matching tool

Hopefully, if this edit goes well I’ll do Episode 5 as well

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

It looks a little oversaturated for my preference; the sky in particular is bright blue which doesn’t seem right for a desolate desert planet. There’s also a sense that everything is “perfectly” colored at all times from shot to shot and scene to scene regardless of lighting conditions, which looks a little bit artificial to me.

That said, if that’s the look you’re going for, it looks very consistent. You did an excellent job blending the two sources and matching the colors.

Photo from the same area in Tunisia;

Looks pretty “perfectly colored” to me

Can’t see any difference to be honest.

There is more detail still in the youtube clip I posted. Using that would be an improvement as the source for the shot.

I think that youtube clip is from Neveragreats technicolor recreation, if i’m not mistaken.

The other option is to line up the two shots and Lumakey the detail in through the black, but even then it still looks way dark too little contrast and crushed blacks.

I think it looks swell.

If I may say something about this shot.

The background looks good… The theatrical version was red and was not tinted blue to make it purple.

The Special edition was Blue without enough red to make it Purple.

It should be purple but some reason it’s either Blue or red.

I would go with theatrical version and add blue tint possibly more shadow detail. Certainly despezialized has detail on 3P0’s black chest which I’ll assume was upscaled GOUT sourced.

any chance of adding the red lights to the moisture vaporator?

I like the addition of the missing targeting computer on Gold Leader pulling out the trench but It looks a little low in the frame.

Keep up the good work.

That video gave me an idea, I’ll retry the shot using the 4K Blu-ray source. it will probably have more detail and be easier on the eyes.

I certainly appreciate you tackling this shot. It needed a bit more love years ago.
I’d say you’re pretty close! There’s still some halo-ing around the characters (I’m seeing specifically their heads). And the background seems maybe still too in-focus? I think it’s 3PO that’s throwing me off. Isn’t he kind of out of focus in this shot? I’m trying to remember now…

Yeah threeio really looks weird in this shot, really blurry really dark.

Does anyone own a threepio costume and a camera?
