Episode I Digital Yoda Images!!!!
Time
I'm not going to try to go back and find the post I want to quote, so just trust me that someone on here (or more than one person) said that they can tell when CG is used in a movie.

I can too -- and I hate it!

WARNING: I wrote the rant below and realised it rambled on and didn't really get to the point. Read at your own risk!

Special effects shots are (or should be) used only when you can't actually do what it is you want shot. Effects shots should still seem natural within the context of the film. I mean, I obviously know that there aren't spaceships and that, but if they look real, then that's great. Suspension of disbelief! I mean, when I first saw ESB and saw Yoda, he was really there on Dagobah. Once the movie was over, well, yeah, he was a puppet, but I believed he was real. Special effects have done their job when you believe it's real. In my opinion, if there's CG in a movie, I don't want to know it. I don't want to be able to tell where the CG effects are. They should be seamless. I hate hearing "The effects in that movie were awesome!" If you noticed where the CG effects (or any special effects) were, they haven't done their job. If you lose that suspension of disbelief, then it's not real for you anymore. CG never seems to fit in because it's not real enough. It pulls me out of the film, and it's that much harder to enjoy.

Thanks for listening.

A great point! I mean, what does "The Phantom Menace" tell you about the movie, versus "The Empire Strikes Back". I mean, we had all seen what happened to the Empire in SW, so the title really set the tone for the whole film.

As for the topic of this thread, some may debate my choices, but they are mine. I don't rank by which was best, but which I like watching most:
From first to last:
SW
ROTJ
ESB
TPM
ROTS (this and TPM might switch once the DVD is out and I have to opportunity to watch all of them)

<<La production pour tous usages, de méme que la location, le prèt et l'utilization de ce compact disc vidéo pour l'exêcution publique et la télediffusion sont formallement interdits et susceptibles de poursuites>>

Literally: "The reproduction for all uses, even if hired, the theft and the use of this video compact disc for public viewing and distribution are formally prohibited and susceptible to persecution"

A little nicer: "Reproduction of this disc for any reason, theft and use of this video laserdisc for public viewing and distribution are strictly prohibited and subject to persecution."

I took out the "even if hired" because I just can't think of a formal way to say that in english. Feel free to use my translation as a starting point!

The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Before my question gets lost in the usenet discussions, I'm just going to ask again.
Does anyone know the chapter stops for the Cowclows 2 release? Are they the same Definitive Collection stops as #1? I'm working on inserts to go with a cover set, and I want to put the chapter stops on it. Thanks!

My 1997' SE laserdisc transfer set - including extras.... (Released)
Time
I look forward to this release. I'm a young'un, and 97 was the first time I watched Star Wars on the big screen. I see it as part of the history of Star Wars, and just as I own the 2004 DVDs (and watch them from time to time, too), I feel it's important to keep the SE intact, too. Interestingly, last month I bought the SE on laserdisc at a garage sale, despite not owning, and never having owned, a laserdisc player. They just sit on the shelf beside the VHS.

Cheers, dark_jedi and Rikter! I can't wait to be transported back to 1997!

A word to the Myspleeners.

I'm going to throw my two cents in here. I've had difficulties in the past with burning video_ts folders. Maybe it's my burner, maybe it's Nero, maybe it's something else, but it's about 50-50 as to whether or not it'll work. On the other hand, using Alcohol 120%, I never have a problem burning an ISO. It's gotten to the point that when I do download a video_ts folder, I make an ISO image of the DVD video, and then burn the ISO to a disc. Sure it takes a bit longer, but I deal and don't have as many junk discs. Seriously, it was becoming just insane.
