OriginalTrilogy in Toronto Sun!
Time
HEY Bossk! I'm still kickin' around. Nice to know I've been missed though...

Basically my dad had to be hospitalized for pancreatis a few months ago so I moved back home to help out for bit, then ended up staying longer. I had to get a new job and finally found some part-time so I haven't had the time to hang around here as much as I like. I still pop by every once in a while and lurk in the background, but its real nice to see how many more people have joined the forums in the last while!

Startin' to get my life back under control and even catch up on a couple movies and DVDs so maybe I'll even have a few reviews to send your way if you'll still have 'em ...

Star Wars OT ANH - PAL Laserdisc transfer (Released)
Time
Everyone spoke their own native language on set as most of Leone's films were post dubbed. Because of this it's difficult to say if there is an official language for his westerns as he often cast Americans in the lead roles, but everyone else in the movie might be speaking Italian. My preference then is that the language where the actors dubbed themeselves can equally be called 'official' versions.

Wow zion, those menu's are unfreakin' believeable! Great job.

One thing though, after Vader says "prepare your troops for a surface attack" and turns around to view the upcoming 'attack' I thought he would be looking at the scene select menu with scenes from the first couple chapters of hoth visible. Just thought it might fit the line better. Great stuff however you decide to go.

An article of lies and disgust - George Lucas talks re the 2004 OT SE DVD release...
Time
Wow, that seems pretty sad Luke. I don't post much anymore, but it's still pretty lively around here with lots of neat stuff going on.

While I've been pretty stressed for the last while myself with family and everything, and the whole Lucas circus in full swing I do feel kinda numb to it all. But I figure once this all dies down and everyone sees that its all just a lot of hype (especially once there are Star Wars DVDs on every street and corner-as if it wasn't already) more people will finally realize that what they're getting isn't from their childhood at all. So instead of just a small cult of hard-core purists, the sleeping public will wake up to what's going on. Frankly, that could be interesting.

Anyway, I do hope you feel better soon, buddy.

Empire Of Dreams Review
Time
The material about the making of the original trilogy was definitely fascinating stuff. It was nice to see the original crew talk about the days so long ago when they were literally making movie history. I know it was truncated, but according to Kevin Burns, even the full version doesn't touch how much stuff Lucas still has in the vaults, so there's still lots of footage from back then that hasn't seen the light of day.

But that's not my problem with it. Described as a warts and all documentary, everything post original trilogy was the same ol' Lucas company line, about "nows my chance to do the stuff I couldn't do back then" (paraphrasing) didn't touch any thing even remotely controversial about the special edition or 2004 changes. Not even a person questioning it, or the validity of Lucas' denial of the originals. Maybe not everyone or even the majority feels that way, but certainly enough people to make it at least worthy of mentioning? Or is it just more of sweeping it under the rug, so now when people see the Star Wars Trilogy 2004, that's just all there is to the OT and that's it. That last chunk was just an advert for Lucas and Ep 3. Pathetic.

The Latest Star Wars 04' DVD review...
Time
I was kinda bummed to find out that all the changes we had suspected and argued over the last couple of months turned out to be true. I mean, I expected it of course, but somehow it still sorta hurts. That after all this hoopla, Star Wars' next glorious unveiling has come to this.

On the other hand, I haven't been a hardcore SW fan for a while, certainly a lot of my interest in it has wavered since the Prequels came out, and the rest of the expanded whatever just doesn't interest me.

Since I got my OT rips on DVD anyway, along with my old VHS sets, my memory or nostalgia for the OT is still there. And it's the great people on this site that has saved it from being just a memory. Just being here and knowing that there are others who may feel the same way is enough to keep the OT fires burning. Well for me anyway. So thanks for the site Jay, and the discs Rikter, TR47, Magnoliafan and whoever else for the hardwork, and especially for those unfrickin' believeable covers!

I'd hate to be working on the refunds counter at any DVD store in the next month.

8am September 22nd.

"Good morning sir. How can I help you today?"

"Uhm... Hi, yeah. There seems to be something terribly wrong with this copy of the Star Wars trilogy. For some reason it sucks now."

"Yes I'm afraid that's a problem with all of the copies, it's because there's something terribly wrong with the series' creator."

"Huh... Okay, well can I exchange this piece of crap for something better?"

"Certainly sir."

After the first few hours it'd get to the stage where as soon as the clerk saw a guy in his late-twenties to early-forties heading over to the counter with a parcel under his arm and a pissed-off/confused look on his face they'd have a routine worked out.

"Good afternoon sir, you can just drop your Star Wars trilogy DVDs in the bin provided to your left, take this ticket and go pick out something from the shelf. Thank you and welcome to the rest of your life."

LOL If only it were true, I'd get in that line...

Pot calling the kettle black?? George Lucas talks 'The Three Stooges' - remade in color?
Time
Well, to be fair Lucas already believed that way back in the 80s when he was still the 'genius' behind the original Star Wars trilogy and before he went 'insane' 20 years later.

And besides, unlike Lucas at least they offer the consumer the choice of what they prefer which is a heck of a lot more the he does.

Other SW DVD releases- expected by year's end

Actually I'm pretty sure Waterworld was made for less than $200 mil, as Titanic came later and its $200 mil budget trumpt it.

It's not a great film and Kevin Reynolds is a heavy-handed director, but Waterworld isn't compeletly deserving of its bad rep. It has a few decent scenes and great atmosphere, you can almost believe what it's like to live on a water all the time, kinda like a wet road warrior. I dunno, may someone like Magnoliafan can re-edit it into a decent picture with better pacing!

Right on!

The fact is whether you're a fan who likes the changes or not, most people just don't realize that this DVD set isn't the same 'original' trilogy. And if Jay's article can inform people that not only is this not the one they've grown up with, but that Lucas won't even make it available, then eveyone can just make up their own damn mind about how they want to spend their money.

If they don't care, fine. But if they do, great. And if they want to come here and find out more about what's been going on (not everyone who likes Star Wars is a hardcore 'fan' afterall), all the better!

Thanks Jay, keep up the great work!

Wah! Real, after all. I'd much rather have Binks inserted in every part of the OT than this...

No joke, Sammy. This is the ultimate abomination. I had hoped and hoped that it wasn't real, but here it is...I'm so glad I have my bootlegs from Rikter.

*inexplicably speechless*
