But the 1.85:1 version is the correct version! It was framed for theatrical release and I noticed a few more animation errors watching it the other way.

I noticed more animation errors in the 1.85 last night that I had previously watching the 1.33 version, at least in the CG title sequence (a couple buildings seemed to disappear and reappear at times). I also think a lot of the framing is just better in the 1.33:1, and it helps give it an old-school noir vibe that isn’t as effective in the wider format. Though, it still isn’t bad in 1.85, and having looked into it some more, I can see how one could prefer it.

I’m about to watch TLJ again because there’s a free screening here, and I can’t wait to see just how much it still owns. Later, nerds!

My brother begged me to read this mini-series, as it seems to be his favorite comic ever, so I’ve read the first half of it and… yeah, I’m not feeling it. I haven’t read much of the character before, but I always thought he was cool, and I liked him in the JLU cartoon, but in this, he just seems like a watered down parody of Rorschach, who was already a parody of the Question. I know Ditko was an objectivist, but I generally tend to root for more altruistic heroes.

I’m also not a fan of how Superman supporting characters are used here, this being set in Metropolis and all. For example, Lois Lane is typically strong-willed, but this book writes her as almost mean-spirited. Then again, Jimmy Olsen keeps prying into her past sex life, so I kinda don’t blame her, but why the hell is Jimmy Olsen prying into her past sex life? There are also random Metropolites speaking almost entirely in Freudian slips when she’s around, and it’s just depressing, really. I’m almost grateful Supes himself hasn’t been seen at all.

I do like the art, though. The flat colors and hazy lines work really well.

Thank you. Also, I think I read somewhere that recent estimates put 35mm somewhere between 6-8k, but I don’t know much about film stock so I don’t know how accurate that is.

I just wanted to say that I always read this thread when I see it, but I rarely end up actually typing because I’m Not Helpful and have nothing good to say, but I’m with all of you!!
