I don’t know really where to put this since there isn’t a General Movies thread but it seems Batman v Superman got some inspiration from Iron Man 2 which is probably why it wasn’t that good of a film. One of the “similarities” is a bit of a reach though.

Which one? The secret HQ one (since Tony’s identity is public) or the drunk one (since Bruce was faking, I think)?

I’m glad someone finally admitted that they want certain movies to fail.

Well, yes. I hate the “2edgy4u” direction DC’s films are going in under the Dark Lord Snyder, and the sooner it fails, the sooner they have to reboot it all and hopefully not be embarrassed by the comic source material.

The edginess doesn’t bother me because for one they have to tonally differentiate themselves from Marvel. Secondly, if the writing is good it wouldn’t matter if it were dark or was even more lighthearted than Marvel films. I definitely agree with Dark Lord Dudebrah. After BvS it’s almost like jumping into a cauldron of magma to hire him again but if anything DC needs some new people making the executive decisions. They are the root of the issue.

Critically, Zach Snyder’s Superman movies have been flops, but financially they’ve done great. In the eyes of the producers, there’s no need to switch it up.

Especially in the home release market. Haven’t actually looked up the numbers, but I’ve seen pictures of proud Snyder fans with several copies (the regular Blu, the steelbook, the other steelbook, the 4k, the 3d, the Target exclusives, the Amazon exclusives, etc.) which is insane no matter what movie it is.

IDENTITY remains the only good film in the series.

Thoughts?

Identity and Supremacy are the only two I’ve seen, and so far I agree. I haven’t read any of the books, though. Supremacy was okay IMO, but it just felt like the same thing but Bigger! Shakier! Uglier! and ultimately less interesting. I recorded Ultimatum on TV, so I’ll probably watch it tonight and hope for the best.

The DNR isn’t that bad, save for a few shots (like the sunset where everyone’s digging and Indy’s just walking around). As for the touched up reflection, that’s not an SE level change. That would be if the SE only changed that one shot where Obi-Wan’s lightsaber flickered and nothing else.

Suicide Squad is getting panned and hearing that made my day. Will Warner Bros. come to their senses and hire competent filmmakers with respect for the source material to reboot their failed universe? Will Zack Snyder retreat to live alone in a cave? Tune in next time! Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!

Here’s some more info:

Also, if anyone wants to get one of these, they’re actually pretty cheap!

I clicked on the link to the company who made this, “Goldies”, and it seems like all they do is release famous music. Everything from Elvis, to Bob Marley. I even recognize the box art from their Tommy Dorsey and Louis Armstrong collections from my mothers music collection so CD’s from this company must have been been readily available in Norway (which is where I live) back in the early 2000’s.

I own something similar. It’s all Star Wars music, but they’re strange, simplified arrangements that sound almost like midi files. It’s a 3 disc set with five pieces each. I saw it for 99 cents at the charity shop and immediately bought it because Lapti Nek and Ewok Celebration were on the track listing.

Mine also has some really bizarre arrangements. F.ex. amidst all the classical sci-fi movie themes (e.g. music from E.T., Blade Runner, Back to the Future, Star Trek, etc.) is the main theme from a 2001 Canadian-German film called “Ice Planet”. Not only is this film rated 3.9 on iMDb, but it is listed before Back to the Future.
It also list “Venus - The Bringer of Peace” which I googled and and far as I can tell this was never even used in any sci-fi films. So apart from the space-related name I can’t really tell why it’s there.
I also find the SW one’s to be somewhat weird. It keeps mentions a “The Empire Strikes Back - Main Theme” and a “Return of the Jedi - Main Theme”. Would that just be the regular SW theme?

Music list;

Venus is from Gustav Holst’s Planets suite, which IIRC influenced Williams work on SW (whether or not the makers of these discs actually knew that or that was a coincidence may never be known, but my money’s on the latter).

Also,

Ranking the Star Wars films

I think that I like ROTJ more than TFA, now that TFA has passed and I’ve seen it a few more times. I still love TFA, and it’s really about equal to ROTJ, but I’m going to give ROTJ the edge for nostalgia. As for SW and ESB, I can never make up my mind. My ratings for each film:

SW: 10/10
ESB: 10/10
ROTJ: 9/10
TFA: 9/10
ROTS: 3/10
TPM: 3/10
AOTC: 2/10

I’m pretty sure Ahmed Best wore the suit for ROTS because he did an interview where he talked about a “dark and intriguing” scene starring Jar Jar that eventually got cut and hasn’t made it onto any DVD/BD releases yet.

Years ago I heard rumors of a scene where Jar Jar was killed by Clone Troopers in the Senate building. I even saw a clip that was probably fake, but since the whole movie looked fake I couldn’t tell 😉.

How prominent is sulu being gay in terms of being shown?

I don’t care for me it doesn’t bother me at all but I’m going to see it with my grandpa. He’s been a diehard trekkie since TOS but he thinks homosexuality is wrong. He a never hateful or rude about it and would never put someone down for being gay, I just wonder how much behind-the-scenes bitching I’ll have to endure.

It’s a barely noticeable, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it background detail.

Minor spoiler:

All that happens is that Sulu puts his arm around a man and they walk off into the background with their daughter, so without prior knowledge of official statements, it could easily be Sulu walking away with his brother or another relative. I read somewhere that there was supposed to be a scene where they kiss, but it was cut.

END MILD SPOILER
