Blade Runner: The Version You've Never Seen Before (Update: Beta Released)

It’s now playing in HD on Rumble, only just noticed… it took almost a month! Was stuck at 480p for ages. Well…it’s playing in 1912 x 804 (might as well call it 720p) to be exact. Not sure why it isn’t 1080p. The HD upscale was 1920 by 1080. Who knows, maybe I was knackered from work and wasn’t paying attention. I rushed it, I know that much.

Yeh man, I’m sure someone else could improve on my AI uprezz. Someone will prob uprezz it to 4k or 8k which would be cool. The rendering times for Topaz AI are horrendous for me. You could definitely improve certain scenes using a different AI model for each one, but I haven’t got the time for that.

Regarding Myspleen Stretch009, are you talking about zombies blade runner fan edit? One of you guys said you were putting the original file or the AI on there that I had, if I remember correctly. Great that it’s getting out there. Would be cool if zombie84 came back and what their thoughts were. Lol if they said “how dare you!” 😃

The Full DVD of Zombie’s blade runner fanedit is on Myspleen. It was added in 2014 and currently has 8 seeders. Anyway I have it now and I’m going to see if I can make a good upscale.

I watched this last night and will post a review eventually.
The image to me was fine. My TV is a plasma, not 4K.
I had earlier mentioned the 480p versions.
Brunei’s recent edition is 1080p h265.
The “best looking” edit I have seen is the Nexus 7 by Krausfadr.
Zombie84’s edit is a different slant, however, and has been lost for about a decade.
I appreciate Brunei efforts in trying to enhance this, then sharing with the community.
Anyone curious, I strong urge you to seek this out NOW.
Thanks again, Brunei1992, for this.

“Zombie84’s edit is a different slant, however, and has been lost for about a decade.”

Not sure what you mean by that. Just a few minutes ago I downloaded the original DVD from Myspleen. ( 7 seeders ) I’m thinking of making my own attempt at upscaling it with Topaz.

On Cartoon Chaos they just added this: Song of the South 1946 [Thunderbean BD25]

This is a newer scan (2022) from a 35mm IB Technicolor print by Thunderbean. It restores a segment that was missing from the previous scan that is around.

What previous segment are they talking about that is missing?

It’s up now on the spleen.:

“It includes a sequence of about 25 seconds starting at around 54:22 that’s missing from the previous HD rip.”

It’s also cropped on the four corners like I’ve seen before on other releases like Puggo’s. I don’t understand why they do that. I’ve never seen a Song of the South 35mm cropped like that.

The previous 35mm scan had no round corners as well. So I guess it was also cropped?

What do you mean? I believe this (Thunderbean’s) is the first SotS with round corners.

“Audio 2: 5.1 AAC (source: 1997 DVD)”
AAC isn’t blu ray compliant. Why not AC3 instead?

Is that still a concern? I figured most people play MKV as such.

It would be a concern for those who burn this to disc and want 5.1 surround. You say “most” but there are still those who like to burn movies to disc. I suppose there’s minimal quality loss if you convert the AAC to AC3 640kbps. This can be done with ffmpeg or eac3to I believe.

Edit: Actually, couldn’t you convert the AAC to PCM with zero quality loss? PCM of course being BD compliant.

Cast Away - 35mm preservation opportunity. (a WIP)
Time

“Cast Away is one of many Zemeckis best works and must be preserved.” (original post)

My all time favorite movie is Back to the Future which is a Zemeckis Movie. Forrest Gump is a Zemeckis Movie. Both of these movies are great. Castaway was excruciating to watch in the theater. I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything so boring in my life. Nothing compares. Please someone here tell me what’s great about it.
