That's a good idea. As far as Jedi goes, I think it's probably the movie that could benefit the most from one of these re-cuts. It would be interesting to approach it like a good movie in trouble, like Star Wars was, and make a lot of subtle changes. After watching the dvd extras, I'm convinced Paul Hirsch is the unsung hero of the trilogy, and his absence hurt Jedi more than Gary Kurtz'. He clearly was ruthless about keeping it tight and had a good bullshit-meter. Just for example, I doubt he would have allowed the briefing room scene to be so jokey and devoid of tension. Just cutting won't really help Endor, though. We now have six movies worth of detailed, exotic worlds...and California. Maybe changing the time of day would help, some mist, some shafts of sunlight. We know Lucas has a hard-on for dusk/magic hour. When he did the special eds., I was hoping he'd add in some big, humming David Lynch-y machinery/refineries here and there, to show how the Empire was industrializing the place. (exploiting/polluting the "green moon" was a part of the original script, I believe). 3 or 4 matte paintings and some interesting sound fx underneath would've done a lot.
That would be really cool, in the ranch thread it was suggested to use the Jedi radio show because threepio had a lot of extra lines about the ewoks needing to understand how they fit into the struggle against the empire, and it resulted in explaining thier involvement better, so what if we play with that idea and fade to some scenes of deforestation while the exchange between 3po and luke happens...who knows. I cant really think of any movies to use for that though, but the scenes in TTT of the dead marshes above mordor gave me a little inspiration (not that I think that would be appropriate)
Flaming arrows, re-dubbing the ewoks to sound more badass and snipping little unessessary scenes out could tighten up the middle alot. Does anyone really need to see the whole speeder jacking by that ewok? I say we realize that he took off, he lured most of the guards away from the bunker and we move on. right? who cares if he ended up dead? I would almost prefer to assume he did. the tragic hero
Tatooine needs to be re-worked, with placing luke's visit with yoda in the beginning and letting us assume that he spent the last couple of years finishing his training (and explaining how his skills matured so quickly) and taking out a lot of the silliness is most important. I think it could stand to lose ten minutes and still get the point across. Then he comes in last to rescue the rescue teams, the last resort. im going to work on tatooine because for the most part it doesnt need any special extra scenes added in, just some juggling and cutting here and there...Im not sure how to even start with endor.
what about the space battle, aside from lando's copilot it doesnt bother me very much. and maybe we could subtitle him to be more interesting. I like the suggestion of not cutting in between the skywalkers, endor and space quite so much.
