Criterion-like box set for njvc's custom blu-ray set

That is awesome. So, forgive me if this is a dumb question, does anyone know what each cover is referencing when it mentions “Alternate version created from a 35mm LPP print”?

I believe he meant for the set to include the Silver Screen edition of Star Wars and the Grindhouse scans of Empire and Jedi. I have removed the reference on my Jedi cover and will likewise edit my SW and ESB covers.

JMoomer’s original covers described the 50GB discs. As the 25GB discs have less audio tracks are you changing the audio tracks description on your recreations to fit the specs of the 25GB discs?

I can do that.

JEDIT: I will carefully go through the descriptions and make one version for the 25GB set and another for the 50GB set. I plan to make 50GB labels, too, so we’ll have both covered.

In tracking down the sources for recreating these, I found that the ESB cover uses an original piece of art by Juan Esteban Rodríguez, so I feel uncomfortable using it without proper permission. I feel like using McQuarrie pieces is more appropriate, so I’m going to do a version B of the Empire cover with a nice McQaurrie illustration. That and ROJ coming soon.

Here’s my recreation of the Star Wars criterion style cover originally by JMoomer. I used a higher resolution for better printing, and I also consolidated all text to one font (Gill Sans). His original had many different fonts on the back. This was all recreated from scratch, but I tried to match his original best I could. Again, many many thanks to JMoomer. He gets all the credit.

Yeah, the JMoomer covers are not as high res as I would like, so now that I have the basic template that I made for my trilogy documentaries cover done in his style, I’m going back and actually re-creating those covers but at a higher res. Will take me a while longer for sure, but that’s my goal. Naturally I’ll post the finished products here. Again, I just want to state - big props to JMoomer. Love his covers, and that started this whole project for me.

Thought I would just start a new thread here to collect what I’ve been working on for my complete box set. This includes 10 blu-ray discs (all 25GB discs). 3 for each film, and 1 trilogy documentaries disc. These are the custom blu-ray discs made by njvc and feature the Harmy despecialized editions plus lots of special features and documentaries. I based most everything on JMoomer’s work, and use many of his covers. I decided to use a total of four cases: Three 3-disc Criterion cases for the main films + special features + documentaries, then one single-disc Criterion case just for the trilogy documentaries disc. You’ll need to start with JMoomer’s Criterion-style covers and disc labels, then add what’s below.

I made the box out of thick black card stock, then I printed these two sheets out to apply to the surface using a spray adhesive. The first image is the front, top, and spine. The second image is the back and bottom.

Since I used the 25GB set, I needed to change the third disc label for the SW documentaries, and I also needed a new label for the trilogy documentaries, so I made these:

trilogy

I also made this cover for the trilogy documentaries fourth case in my set to match JMoomer’s criterion style for the other cases.

For the insides of the case covers I used various McQuarrie images since the Criterion cases are translucent and you can see the inside of the cover sheet.

I made all of these using GIMP, and will be cleaning things up and providing the source .xcf files soon for anyone who wants to use the layered files. Also, different versions of the labels will be coming for those who went the 50GB disc route. Enjoy!

Machete Order? mmm

If you really want to put R1 (“gosh!” but anyway, let’s accept the input parameters) why are you giving it such a weird place in your machete order and where are the prequels that are far better than R1 and TFA (and the point of machete is to use both trilogies by the way) ? R1 after TFA does not make any sense. That’s being said, before ANH would make more sense but the movie doesn’t work as a direct prequel because of too many inconsistencies in a movie supposed to take place 5 five prior to ANH. Hard to know where to put it… so you shouldn’t put this direct-to-video Steven Seagal quality flick anywhere.

Ok, I understand you hate TFA and RO. That’s fine. But I was presenting my order of watching the available films. I do not acknowledge the existence of the things you call “the prequels”. 😃

I have a hard time with Rogue One being the very first exposure to Star Wars. If I was introducing someone to Star Wars who had never seen anything, I would just go with theatrical release order.

The force is strong with this one. What software do you use? This has become a hobby and I’m leaning so much while browsing the threads.

I use GIMP. I’ve been using it since its release back in 1996. It’s like Photoshop but it’s free. https://www.gimp.org

I can provide you some .xcf source files and you can play around with them. Everything is just in different layers. The tough part is just making sure you get your print sizes right!

Hey wow! Those are mine. Good find 😃.

I managed to get 99.7% of Rikter’s 2004-ish dvd covers collection downloaded (it gets stuck on 99.7 unfortunately & goes no further) - and yours are one of the few sets on there that are fully complete and was able to download/view properly 😃

Nice set mate - quite rare to find inserts back in the day too!

2004? Holy crap. You just made me feel very old. 😃 I have the ROJ disc label if you’re missing it.
