I heard a similar story, but it wasn't the same.

It happened in Taiwan or China or somewhere in Southeast Asia. Some corporate head-honcho was kidnapped and had his thumb removed for the same reason. The kidnappers used the thumb to get into corporate HQ.

I recently read about biometrics that are being developed that also check for body-heat, which would remove the possibility of removing body parts.

So, are all the Stormtroopers from IV-VI clones?..
Time
1. Actually, I don't recall ever seeing the discussion on our boards.

2. Its possible that the entire galaxy knew that the stormtroopers were clones, so Han and Luke wouldn't have had any reason to be surprised.

3. I think the rationale behind NOT redoing all the voices is that, even with cloning, individuals are going to have different things happen during their lives that will cause their voices to be different.
Also, cloning is not 100% perfect.
I don't know if you've seen Stargate SG-1, but an example of the troubles with the cloning process are evident in the Asgard. Their species is (or at least was) dying because their cloning techniques caused DNA breakdowns.

Agreed. Been waiting for Jolene in the old uniform.

Chaltab,
No, its not a joke made by TV Guide. They've talked about that on startrek.com as well.

IPod Contents...character-revealing?
Time
Well, I don't know about Brazil, but our politicians are seldom excited or exciting. Consider this: In 2000, Al Gore was the exciting half of the Gore/Lieberman democratic ticket. Its like saying that paint drying is more exciting that grass growing.

Its not normal and the outburst caused a certain backlash.
Could this man, that just make this screeching sound, be taken seriously by the people, by media or by the rest of the world?

Not ex-military, that was another candidate (Robert Clark? I don't think the name is correct, but he was formerly the general in charge of NATO's military forces).

Dean was extremely anti-war and raised a lot of money through online grassroots campaigning. In fact, people were amazed he did as well as he did.

Good point, and with a sigh, I also withdraw. I can see that I am clearly wasting my time.

Just wanted to point out something happened to the quote...I didn't say that, Jedisage did.

1. I would have sworn that I've heard the Guardian referred to as a "communist rag", so I would take what is written there with a grain of salt.

2. I've heard the same things about the BBC. Wasn't there some lord that was a higher up in the BBC that commited suicide over some false anti-American story that aired?

3. ric, [sarcasm]Yes, we gave Halliburton $2 billion to rebuild Iraq so we could steal their oil and lower our gas prices below the $1 mark again.[/sarcasm] I suppose that's why its now $2.20 per gallon now.

4. I'm not completely familiar with the Kyoto accords, but if there are any provisions where countries that are large polluters are fined and other countries get funds, then I can see where its a wealth distribution system.

I found it hard to believe myself.
Here's a small part of an article I found:
The president has owned the personal accessory of the moment for some time, said Johndroe. He's loaded his iPod with his favorite country singers: George Jones, Kenny Chesney and Alan Jackson. He also listens to Aaron Neville, Creedence [Clearwater Revival] and Van Morrison.

The article I heard about seemed to make certain implications about the president because nothing on the IPod is younger than 25 years and nothing is by a black or latin artist.

Boy, am I ever bored...

Yesterday, a story in one of the New York papers (think it was the Times) had an article about "character traits revealed" by the playlists of an IPod President Bush was given by his daughters.

I didn't actually read the article, I only heard about it.
Regardless, think that its possible? Can you read a person's character by the contents of their IPod (Or, perhaps I should say, their taste in music...I don't own an IPod)?

Lucas' Next Step - more changes...
Time

Was browsing the Obsidian Entertainment message boards when I came across a particular signature that got me thinking.

What else could Lucas do to the OT?

I’ll tell you what he could do:

Introducing the re-re-re-release of Star Wars, now with Christopher Walken as Han Solo and Jodie Foster as Princess Leia!!

Now, I know the changes made up to this point have angered some of you. What would something like THAT do?

I recall seeing, I think it was on History Channel, a story about a fusion technique that has been tested and successful, but far too short lived to actually work for now.

The system uses lasers that it splits and focuses. They fire the split, focused laser into a chamber of hydrogen atoms, and it is actually enough for fusion. It was probably an exaggeration, but I think they said they could power the laser with a 9V battery.

The energy output from the reaction was enough, they said, to power the entire Earth several times over, but it lasted for the smallest fraction of a second, so it could not be properly harnessed.

A Big Debate for the New Century
Time
I try to keep an open mind about things. I like to listen to everyone and then accept what I think makes the most sense.

I have no idea what I think.

Whether we were just spawned from nothing in the primordial seas or something planted the first seeds of life, I don't know, but I do feel evolutionary processes have given us the lifeforms currently existing on Earth right now.
If you examine the fossil record, which as an amateur paleontologist I have done to a greater degree than many, you can trace how a small dog-sized animal with 4 toes slowly evolved into the far larger quarter horse of the Kentucky Derby.

Gas Prices

Its been roughly $2.35 around Cleveland. Ahh, the benefits of walking to work. Not only do I get exercise every day, but I save money on gas.

JediSage,
Actually, no amount of oil from ANWR or anywhere else is going to help. Part of gas prices being so high is the fact that no refineries have been built in the US in the last 20 years. The one's in operation now are at 100% capacity.

Blame the tree-hugging freaks that don't want the added pollution. But it not all them. There is also the average citizen and their 'not-in-my-backyard' mentality.

Another refinery HAS to go up some time though, to replace the one in Texas that blew up this past month.
