I thought of another one, Star Trek III. The intro flashback to the end of II and the opening credits are in 2:1, the rest is 2.35:1.
Thanks! Added the first three titles - adjusting AR following LDDB info; I left Predator 2 out until some other proof will be found.
Updates:
the Cinema DTS track is slightly out of sync compared to the HD-DVD tracks; plus, its phase is inverted (also in comparison to BD); so, I managed to fix these things.
Plus, the french, german, italian and spanish tracks from the HD-DVD have an empty .1 channel; I extracted it from the DTS track, and replaced the empty one for each language with this.
I'm going to capture the PCM laserdisc track now, unless someone thinks that the analog track is better and/or different from the PCM one...
Added Star Trek III - thanks to doubleofive
Thanks! I added it to the new thread - please use this for future entries.
GregK, thanks for your comprehensive review! I'm happy you appreciated this project; this is one of these thing which makes me continue with my work; thanks again!
Another perfect example (thanks to bttfbrasilfan for the link):
my to-do list is so long, that often I forget what's in it! (^^,)
I must to be honest: after my first SW related project - that teached me a lot in technical skills - I discovered the non-SW forum, and I stick with it, as there are so many other people here that is making really good jobs about SW - of course, as this is OT, after all...
Well, hold on, remain subscribed to this thread, and once in a while post a reminder... maybe next time you will find out that the project is started!
I'll fix it in the near future; meanwhile, is it still possible to watch it on BD using a PS3 - at least, I have tested it in my two own consoles, and one of my friends.
Or you can always play the movie using your PC and a video player (VLC, MPC or other); just open the biggest .m2ts file in the \BDMV\STREAM folder.
Wonderful job, BRAVO!
The only known extra seems The Making of Waterworld... here is the "proof" of its existence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEaORa5zKm0
Maybe it's easier to find the Holy Grail than this!
TV CUT = Extended Cut... as there is an R1 DVD around, I don't think it's so useful to add it here; plus the BD-25 is almost full, and I don't want to force users to burn a BD-50 for "only" 30GB of data... (^^,)
Plus, don't forget there is always the Ulysses Cut DVD - made by a member of this forum!
@PDB: as it seems that the theatrical mix was 5.1 - as you can find in this thread - so probably the DTS from laserdisc will be the same; as both DD+ from HD-DVD and DTS-HD MA from BD are commercialy available, I thought to not add these tracks for now - but I will do a BD-50 with them only if I will find out the laserdisc tracks for german, spanish and french, plus italian from my own LD.
So, I should only choose one track between PCM (easy) and analog...
@applesandrice: this project is born almost for joke... I mean, somewhere I read the HD-DVD was considered better than the BD; I had the HD-DVD... as I must learn how to rip an HD-DVD, I made 1+1=2, so...
It's almost done, I just have to capture the laserdisc soundtrack; I think there will be no compatibility issue this time, as video will be left "as is"... of course, I will test it with more players than my two PS3 consoles, now that I know the latter could read almost everything, while "normal" stand alone BD players are more "picky" (^^,)
Of course, beta testers with a BD burner AND a standalone BD player - NOT a PS3 - are more than welcome!
As there will be some empty space in the BD-25, I want to fill it with ONE secondary english soundtrack from laserdisc.
Which do you prefer between these:
I'd like to NOT include the DTS, as there will be the Cinema DTS one, so probably the laserdisc will be really similar; still don't know if to use the PCM, or the analog, just to make something different; these ones should reflect the 4.0 theatrical mix, so I'm almost surely choose one of them, to have a different mix.
I don't think there is a commentary track somewhere, but if it exist, please let me know; also, maybe I could find a place to add also an HD trailer...
,^…^, presents Waterworld [spoRv] - special project of Remuxed version
**| PROJECTS: Released | In progress | Future | Mission & Setup |

Mission: to fix Waterworld best video and couple it with best audio tracks.
Video source: Italian HD-DVD.
Audio sources: Cinema DTS and laserdisc for english tracks, Italian HD-DVD for foreign audio tracks.
Subtitles sources: Italian HD-DVD for all the tracks.
Project info:
Waterworld is available on Blu-ray; despite the fact it has an higher bitrate of the HD-DVD, the latter is considered by many of higher quality, without DNR; but its color grading is a bit too magenta, so it’s color corrected to display better blue gradients.
I also thought to add the Cinema DTS track, plus the analog english track from the laserdisc; foreign languages are from the HD-DVD Dolby Digital Plus track; they lack the .1 subwoofer track, so it’s taken from the Cinema DTS, and is re-encoded to DD 640kbps.

Sure! All the five screenshots ready to compare:
Well, she's blond, so she must have yellow hair... (^^,) but it's true that in that scene there is maybe a little too much green, probably due to the fact the color matching script confused the surrounding green of the vegetation... but I noted only when paused, and not in motion, though... Also, the fact that the clip is split in half could make the impression of wrong colors... if you need further test clips with only the new setting, let me know.
Here you are some comparison screenshots to show that indeed this last setting works well IMHO, but of course I'm open to suggestion!

The other two clips:

So are you giving it the green light?
Not yet, sorry... I decided to use a completely different color matching method, to get rid of the artefacts DoomBot noted, present also in the snow shot; the new one is more conservative and less aggressive than the old one, but result seems more natural.
Here you are the split screen test clip (25mbps) - left BD, right setting 2:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/dceq61
as you can see, the new setting (called, guess what? setting 2 - what a fantasy, eh?) seems to avoid the "wrong" colors - e.g. in the bd the snow is pink first, then violet, then blue, while in setting 2 it remains more or less white.
With this, I don't want to say that the BD color grading is wrong or right, but only that I like most setting 2's grading.
Now I'm going to encode the previous test clips with this new setting; I'll post them ASAP; meanwhile, take a look at this last clip and let me know what do you think.
Last clip @25mbps: http://www.sendspace.com/file/hdf4cf
Thanks! But I'm still unsatisfied because of its BD problematic compatibility... I'll repair the situation one day - hope soon...
OK; let's wait for TheGroovologist's opinion.
Yes. But this time I encoded the last two clips at 10mbps; hence, maybe you could note less grain, if this is the problem... i've done it to upload (and let you download) clip faster, as I think I reached a good result with grain, but still not sure which saturation setting I should use.
So, focus first on the saturation; then, if the last setting is good, I could make another test clip, this time using an high bitrate setting - 25/30mbps, that will be used for the final release.
