A question: will you be able to record it 1:1 with your DVR?

Regarding the loop; that's great news...the reactions to the film part is definitely new material. 25 minutes sounds very promising. I guess that the Making Of part contains new material, too.
At least, of this 25 minutes we hope about 10 are never-seen-before material... we'll see!

Okay, here is the update ......
To keep the flow of info I took time out of my schedule to hook up the VCR and preview the tape. There was NO capturing done.
The time frame for each loop is 25 minutes a piece. The segment begins with TV promos about reactions to the film and a trailer. The second part of the segment is a short "making of" that goes through a few sections of production.
That is all I did and saw.
I hope this quells some of the curiosity for now.
Thanks
No, Jetrell, thanks to you! For:
No rush to do it, as I started some new projects; but you know that, secretly (well, not that much secretly) I'm eagerly waiting... (^^,)
Message to all: we (all of us) have a life - do we? - so please respect people's time, don't flood with PMs, and if you really, REALLY need to know or write something, just post your thought in this thread; thanks!
mmmhhh... feasible, I think, but I don't know how to do it... maybe CatBus could know it, as he's a subtitle master; good idea, though!
Jerry, thanks for your advice!

SUPERNOVA (2000) [spoRv]
| PROJECTS: Released | In progress | Future | Mission & Setup |
Mission: to release Supernova in High Definition Blu-ray format.
Video sources: 2x HDTV
Audio sources: DVD
Subtitles sources: DVD
Project info:
Even if "Supernova" could not be considered a masterpiece, I like it, as many of us... no Blu-ray is ever released, so it's time to make a proper high-definition version.
There are two HDTV broadcasts around, one scandinavian and the other russian; both are 1920x1080 2.35:1 25fps; they have different color grading but, apart that and according to preliminary tests, they match 100%; if it proves true, I'll overlay them to average compression artifacts and obtain a better quality without using nasty noise reduction; result color is also better than both single version; video then will be slowed down to 23.976fps.
All five languages are taken from the PAL DVD; they are all Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks; they are converted from 25fps to 23.976fps; if I'll be able to find out the English Cinema DTS track, it will be included as main track.
Subtitles for all five languages are from PAL DVD.

We'll see... I never excluded anything but time is a tyrant, you know... "never say never"!
But this project is about the open matte version... maybe another one would like to do it?!
Thanks to all!
@BDgeek: actually, I think the HDTV has the right color grading - take a look at this post, last paragraph.
Interesting... but I have not the PAL DVD, nor the NTSC DVD - preferable, so that track will remain untouched... and, what about Cinema DTS track?!? Was is 5.1 or 6.1?

Mission:** to present Gladiator in its open matte glory.
Video sources: HDTV.
Audio sources: BD.
Subtitles sources: BD.
Project info:
Lately, thanks also to this forum, I discovered an open matte HDTV version of “Gladiator”: I thought it was like many others, with some scenes properly matted, while others - in particular the ones with SFX - cropped, as usually SFX are done using final AR.
With my great surprise, I discovered that this movie is fully open matte, including all the SFX scenes! Even if Ridley Scott decided to set AR at 2.35:1, now everyone could benefit of this glorious 1.78:1 open matte version!!!
Video is taken from an HDTV broadcast, 1920x1080.
Audio tracks for the five languages are all from EU BD: English is DTS-HD MA, while French, German, Italian and Spanish are “only” DTS; they are unaltered; another track for English will be used, still to be decided - DD 5.1 448kbps from HDTV or DTS core from DTS-HD MA.
Subtitles for all five languages are from EU BD.

NO ESCAPE (1994) [spoRv]
| PROJECTS: Released | In progress | Future | Mission & Setup |
**
Mission:** to release No Escape in High Definition Blu-ray format.
Video sources: HDTV, DVD.
Audio sources: Laserdisc, DVD.
Subtitles sources: DVD.
Project info:
“No Escape” is a forgotten action movie of the '90s; albeit it’s not a masterpiece, it still deserves an high definition restoration; the PAL DVDs are horrible, as they are cropped at 1.85:1 - while the OAR was 2.35:1 - with a quite bad quality…
Video is taken from an HDTV broadcast, 1920x1080 2.35:1 25fps; it is slowed down to 23.976fps; initial credits are replaced using the original ones from laserdisc, as the main logo title; laserdisc video is used also to replace the logo part that intrudes into the picture and so is used as a “patch”!
Main English audio track is taken from laserdisc, PCM Dolby Surround; it is converted from 44.1KHz to 48KHz to be BD compliant; all five languages (plus English) are taken from the PAL DVD; they are all Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks; they are converted from 25fps to 23.976fps.
Subtitles for all five languages are from PAL DVD.
A 28 minutes “making of” is included; it is converted from PAL 25fps to HD 23.976fps; audio is english and subtitles are included for all the five languages.

Welcome additions from forum users will be - if they exist: more extra material, audio commentary.
Two "good reasons" to use this technique:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison.php?id=36176
if you have any other "good reasons" like these (-^,) post them here!
Finally the Sweetspot is my hands... long story short, it went from UK mainland (seller) to Northern Ireland (a friend of mine) who "forget" it for two weeks, then he remembered suddenly (after I called him) and then sent it to me in Italy...
It's in pristine condition, in its original OEM box, with manual but nothing more... Now I should download driver and DScaler dedicated version; but, as I'm uploading AVP:R right now, and don't want to "disturb" my poor PC, I'll set up everything in the next few days; then, I'll post - again - with a brief review.
Thanks, found! But it seems everybody has it but me... (^^,)
So, is it Gladiator [spoRv] still a good idea?
Jerry, no, it was not from rutracker, but probably it's the same file, apart that mine is corrupted... try to demux it to see if it's ok.
Thanks, it will be great! Lost cause still for my "poor" unfixable .ts file... (^^,)
I tried everything, to demux and/or repair the file... like
tsmuxer
tsremux
avidemux
virtualdub (via avisynth)
virtualdubmod (via avisynth)
dgmpegdec
mpegstreamclip
projectx
mpeg2repair
tsdoctor
and probably others that I'm forgetting right now... AFAIK, if this file could be fixed, one or more of the previous software should fix it, so probably it's a lost cause...
AVP:R has been released yesterday - forgot to post here, oops! (^^,)
I managed to download the HDTV open matte version of Gladiator... 20GB and a week later, I discovered that file is corrupted and only the first 29 minutes are present, while the latter part is unplayable/unmuxable/etc.
I tried a lot of video fixer, but nothing worked... so, until I could fix it or find a working file, Gladiator is put on hold... I'm sorry, as this version is very good and open matte is "real", with also CGI effects completely in 16:9 and not cropped like in some other open matte releases of other titles.
New projects are on their way, but before this, I should finish the ones I started...
PROJECT RELEASED!
It is on the "usual place" (^^,) - enjoy it!
remember:
GB = Gigabyte = 10003 bytes
GiB = Gibibyte = 10243 bytes
So, a BD-25 is
25,000,000,000 bytes / 1000 = 25,000,000 KB / 1000 = 25,000 MB / 1000 = 25GB = 25 x 10003
or
25,000,000,000 bytes / 1024 = 24,414,062 KiB / 1024 = 23,841 MiB / 1024 = 23.283GiB = 23.283 x 10243 (actually, 24,999,930,888 bytes and something)
so be careful to not mismatch GB and GiB - often I confuse myself, too!
Another great project!
Jerry, first of all congratulation: to be your first project, it seems really hard to realize, even for an experienced restorer, so kudos to you!
Now you know how tough could be to put in sync more than one track, especially when it's from analog sources... but it seems you are making a good job.
For release time: if you think to make a Blu-ray project, and as the total space is around 90GB, you could always release a BD-25 for every season, hence every season when is ready.
Last hint: if you want to make menus, I strongly reccomend to use MultiAVCHD, the only free authoring software that could allow you to make BDs with menus.
THANK YOU!!! Better my old crappy standalone BD player instead all my future projects... I'm going to start to encode one right now!
