STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

Not sure if anyone’s brought this up, here’s some ideas I’ve found other places I’d like to see Adywan do.

 1. Show Endor Prime, similar to here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0dGxCrwZzI

 2. Show Sullust when the Rebel Fleet gathers like here: https://doubleofive.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/sullust.jpg and here: https://doubleofive.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/briefingplanetarium2.jpg

 3. Show waterfalls near the Shield Generator to add some variety to the landscape of Endor: https://doubleofive.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/endor-waterfall-base.jpg

Also, since this seems to be a divisive topic, I wandered if anyone’s heard/read Adywan’s thoughts on rearranging the events of Jabba’s palace (following something similar to Spence’s ROTJ edit where Leia tries to sneak in to save Han, fails, and Luke goes afterwards to save everyone). I know he wants to keep it so the first time we see Luke in person is when he enters Jabba’s palace (which is the right call in my opinon), but I think it could still be accomplished even while keeping that.

I’m not sure if anyone’s already suggested this (I haven’t exactly been reading this forum regularly), but here’s an idea I have: Anakin’s death feels kind of out of place in the tail end of the Battle of Endor. It’s an emotional, quiet scene, but as soon as it’s done we jump right back into high paced excitement and heroic triumph. The two tones clash and it always felt a bit jarring to me.

So what if instead it were made so Anakin died on the shuttle after it had already escaped the Death Star? Then we transition back to Han and Leia on Endor and any celebration there that might happen, then have the ending Adywan described (Luke burning his father’s body alone as the Jedi ghosts look on).

I gotta agree, I don't think it matters what it is. Whether some garbage, Luke's hand, some gadget or whatever, I think it's there just to highlight the dangerous situation Luke's in as he hangs for dear life above a bottomless abyss of clouds, which marks this as his lowest point in the entire saga.

I never imagined that Ady restoring something back to the original would draw so much ire.

*thinks about the Boba Fett Accent Debate*

Nevermind.

Not so much ire as uncomprehension as to why some people cannot accept and are not willing to entertain even the possibility that a change from how something was originally in the Star Wars Original Trilogy could actually be better, like its impossible that they made mistakes in the original shooting of the films or simply ran out of time to get everything as they would have liked which is the most likely case.

On the contrary it seems like you are not willing to entertain the idea that restoring something to the original version might be better. I'm not the type of guy who thinks everything should be restored, hell, I think I've questioned before if this project is trying to be a preservation (can't remember for what reason, probably colors). But is it so hard to think that ady and me and others might just think that the ESB framing is better?

Also, this wasn't a mistake. Kersh, the DP, and the set crew knew exactly what they were doing when they extended the cockpit and framed the shot the way they did. "Ran out of time when they were shooting"? Are you kidding me? This shot would have been planned before shooting even began. If any film ran out of time it was ANH.

Take a look again at those two cockpit shots again, from ANH and ESB. What's been changed is the set (which is better, by the way, more detailed and undoubtedly more expensive), and the framing, ever so slightly. Yeah, you can see more of the window, but you know that the window's curved, right? It's not just perpendicular? Don't you think they knew what they were doing when they framed the shot? Another thing that's changed is Han and Chewie are farther apart. This is obviously to give space where we can see Leia and 3PO more clearly.

Finally, and probably the most important point, the cropped shot is of lower quality. That should be the first, last, and only reason you need to accept restoring it back.

If this doesn't get through to you, then whatever, so be it. But accept that this is what ady is doing and move on with it.

Plus, considering ESB went way over budget and schedule, I don't think Kershner was really worried as much as keeping to schedule as he was with making it the best film possible.

I don't see much reason for this since he had underestimated Luke by assuming that pushing him into the carbon freezer would be enough to defeat him when he showed himself, by jumping out in time, to be in tune with his surroundings, which is why during the rest of their duel he didn't hold back as he did before

well to be far it's kinda easy to get off topic. The edit is in it's final stages, and there's very little to suggest that a) isn't already in the edit b) hasn't already been rejected and c) could realistically be added in at this point. Ady's work has consistantly been excellent so the only thing left to be said is terrific work and can't wait for the edit to be released, and those have both been said countless times. So the only thing to really talk about is the future edits, especially those (ESPECIALLY the PT) will have far more fundamentally different edits than ANH:R and ESB:R have produced

The way it's sounding now, we could possibly have both R2 and C-3PO be the personal companion droids for Padme. One way to treat them both with respect is cutting out their use for cheap (and stupid) comic relief (ala their entire role in the last third of AotC). So here's an idea: R2 and C-3PO are introduced proper in Attack of the Clones, C-3PO is the one who greets Anakin and Obi-wan when they arrive at the apartment instead of Jar-Jar, introducing himself in the usual fashion as well as adding that he's assistant to Padme and even introduces his counterpart R2D2, who is Padme's personal astro droid, and later the one doing the secuirty scan at night, which makes sense why Leia would inherit those two specific droids when Padme probably had many more. It also means that Luke, through Leia, indirectly inherits R2 from his mother, just as he indirectly inherited his lightsaber from his father through Obi-wan. But, I guess that's sorta getting ahead of things.

yeah but if R2 is in the prequels it should at least be more than coincidence he's in the prequels and happens to end up in Leia's hands. For example, since C-3PO is being made Padme's droid, it can easily be assumed, once Leia is revealed as Padme's daughter, that Leia inherited him after her mother died.

I honestly don't like the idea of having R2 in the prequels. I do like the idea of having astro droids as sort of standard sidekicks for the heroes throughout all the films, like Obi-wan already having R4 and possibly Anakin having another that isn't R2. However, it makes the galaxy seem too small to have R2 be connected with the heroes of the PT then also just happen to be the one Leia entrusts with the Death Star Plans just by pure luck.

Eh, even if he doesn't manage to restore Luke, it's still a one word difference. the entire context of the scene is reverted back to how it was originally (which is the big plus with the dialogue), so even if it's young skywalker instead of luke skywalker it won't be a deal breaker (least not for me)

Welcome back to ESB:R forum, where one viewer has presented a question: About how long would after the release of ESB:R can we expect to see forums for ROTJ:R, PT:R and ANH:R HD? Also, since they are being done at once, will they all be combined into a single forum, or will each film have it's own forum?

Huh, that actually seems to be a perfect representation of what SW:R is all about. It also reminds me of a quote by Homer Simpson:

"You like ice cream don't you? Well, don't you like ice cream even better when it's toped with chocolate, and whipped cream, and chopped nuts, oh and those crumbled up cookie things they put on top?

"Mmmm... Crumbled up cookie things..."

I believe they prove why adywan's care is so important and why the way he fixes things, doesn't destroy the bridges of the thematic narration with the story narration.

Thanks for those links.

Nicely observed. Maybe some more metaphors of that nature could be added to ROTJ and the PT duels.

The lack of dialogue from Maul in TPM backfired on this audience member.

I absolutely agree. In fact i've already thought up a few ideas of how to accomplish that

I haven't stopped by this forum in almost a year; and it still amazes me how much time, effort and energy Ady has put into this project.

The finish line is in sight, and you deserve a long break between this and RotJ:R

I agree, especially since he'll be doing that and the entire PT:R all at the same time (along with ANH:R HD). But then, especially with the PT, there will be so many ideas to prepare them to be worthy companions to ANH:R and ESB:R and so many will be such fundamental changes that it'll take quite a while just to sort through them all and set an official change list before actual production of them occurs.

The man makes one detail-oriented suggestion and people leap on him. Well, Adywan's edits do in fact revolve around detail much of the time.

It's hardly "one" suggestion. I'm sorry, it must be 40 or 50 suggestions from Ronster in the last few months, and all but a couple are totally ridiculous.

No, clearly you're not sorry. if you were you'd remember this forum is for anyone to suggest, not just a closed circle. If you disagree with a suggestion, fine, but that dosen't grant anyone the right to adapt a holier than thou art or superior attitude because of that.

Yes, it does actually contradict another element: tell me this honestly, if someone were knocked backwards, which noise would they be more likely to make, "ompf" or "ahh". Contrarily, if that same person suddenly got a face full of steam, which would they be more likely to make, "ompf" or "ahh".

The nature of Revisited, to me, is change for the sake of quality, not change for the sake of change. That is the difference. How does changing "oomphs" and "ahhhs" add up to being something that absolutely needs to be done for ESB:R when it was fine in ESB to begin with?

Why did fixing the blaster bolts in ANH need to be done?

Because one of the goals of Revisited is a cohesive 6-film saga, and the PT blasters don't look the same.

You really are just purposely trying to avoid the issue at hand, aren't you?

First off, when it comes to the Star wars films, ANH and ESB are the ones that don't have anything that absolutely needs to be done to make it a truly better movie (even ROTJ could stand some changes that would make it a truly better film). It's all about the quality of the experience in these movies, since the entire film itself is fine to begin with.
Granted, there probably are quite a few suggestions made in the past that wouldn't really improve the experience (such as the green AT-AT lasers), but having Vader yell out like he's in pain when he falls off a platform and not when he gets a face full of steam (especially when he does yell out in pain later after being inflicted a painful wound) is inconsistent.
