Alright, so according to Gary Kurtz after Han died Leia would then become queen of what remained of Alderaan. I think that this would be impossible without shooting something new, so I might just go with her being in a Rebel command ship or something.

The whole reason I was thinking about moving the Emperor battle was to be like the old concept of the whole fight happening on Had Abbadon, but I will go with whatever seems right in editing. I just really don’t like the inter-cutting in the final confrontation because it takes you from something really interesting into something less interesting constantly.
If you want to see an edit that has already tried the Executor idea, look up Spence’s cut. I might do it? We’ll see.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to take most of the Crawl establishing the imperial capitol and why the rebellion might destroy it and give more information on that end of the story? Considering you probably will be lacking for elaboration upon their attack in the regular film. Which kind of brings me to a question, what do you plan to do with the briefing scene? That could be a place to help lay out some expositon.
The rebel briefing scene will have General Madine dubbed over explaining that there is a major Imperial Weapons Depot on the forest moon of Endor. Successfully attacking this base will both be a major setback for Imperial Forces in the outer Rim as well as supply the rebellion with an extensive weapons supply for the foreseeable future.
Perhaps after the sheild generator blows up a whole bunch of rebel transports go down to the surface to aquire weapons and recover the remaining ground attack force. Madine could have his own cruiser just so he can have some exposition like “The shield is down, send the transports” or something, so that the rebellion has a minor victory.
The vfx of the gr75’s should be easy enough.
Keep in mind that there will be no attack on the capital in this film. It is simply where the Emperor sequence happens.
I need help with the crawl. I don’t know what to put in it that would be directly relevant. There isn’t a second death star so most of the original crawl is gone. Perhaps talk about how the rebellion is on its last legs and is desperate to strike a blow against the Empire? But then how do I tie in the Jabba sequence.
I think it would be best if the final paragraph said that Luke had finished his preparations to rescue Han Solo, then panning down to Tatooine.
I don’t know, I’m thinking out loud.
Drive (2011)
This is my favorite movie of all time. Before I first saw it I thought that nothing could trump Empire. I was wrong. 10/10

How should I open the film? I want the first moment to be 3PO and R2 going through the desert, but I don’t know how to transition from space to that?
Obviously after the crawl it’s going to pan down to Tatooine, but I don’t know what ship should be flying towards it? Maybe an X-Wing and the Falcon, but I feel like showing the Falcon in the opening shot would be a mistake. I don’t know.

Maybe you could start the film with Luke and yoda. Then tatooine. I readed this change in a other Fanedit. I forgot the Title 😛

Considering Lando has already been in place, I don’t know that the Falcon would be necessary to show anyway. Luke’s X-wing would probably be enough.
Can 3PO fit on the X-Wing? That’s my dilemma.
I hope you will use the original name for the Imperial capital: Had Abbadon. The only place you could put it is in the crawl, however.
Yeah, that’s the name of it in my head but I’m not sure where I can put it.
If the Rebels lose, what will be the victory? Considering this would clearly be the “end” of this version of the Star Wars saga, there would need to be some redeeming, happy ending I think. Han dies, the Rebels lose, Vader is redeemed but dies, and the Emperor dies…I’m not sure it’s enough of a victory. Will the non-Death Star space station be destroyed as well in spite of the lost battle? It just seems that the Rebels need some sort of consolation prize to me.
I feel like this edit would work better if there was the hypothetical sequel trilogy detailing Luke’s quest for his twin sister.
I don’t know if I can put a Rebel victory, but I also don’t want the ending to be ‘happy’. It should feel ‘bittersweet.’ Like the audience should be thinking “Yay, Luke got what he wanted and the Rebels were defeated, but they can rebuild.”
Also, in the very ending there will be VO from Ackbar saying
“This is Admiral Ackbar. The Empire might have won this battle, but our Rebellion still stands. We fought the good fight and will do so again, and again until the Empire crumbles. Remain vigilant! There is always hope! And may the force be with you… always”
…all of this will be playing over shots of Leia being a leader and Lando being with the falcon while it’s fixed (using ROTJ deleted scenes) maybe with a shot of Chewie being sad, who knows. Finally ending with the funeral pyre with Ackbar’s line “May the force be with you always” just before the credits start to roll.
Of course everything depends on execution, but I hope that it will all work.

Still working on it but it won’t be my priority. I have less passion for that film than I do for this one.
As for Han dying, while it might serve the trilogy it would be very hard to pull off (the final shot has Han clearly visible).
There will be no celebration at the end. The rebel forces lose the battle. But I agree that it will be hard to pull off.
Also just to simplify the story, how about Endor is the forest moon of the Imperial Capital (like how it wa originally intended). The throne room could take place on a space station overhead.
In my edit the Luke and Vader stuff doesn’t happen till after the battle, so its location wouldn’t matter.

I have always loved Return of the Jedi, but I know that it can be so much more.
I’m sure you’ve heard the story of Gary Kurtz’s falling out with George Lucas, with George kiddying up the final act of the Star Wars trilogy in order to boost toy sales. Gary Kurtz’s bittersweet and somber conclusion to Star Wars was taken from him.
Revenge of the Jedi is my upcoming edit of Return of the Jedi
My edit intends to bring the version of Jedi we got as close as possible to Gary Kurtz’s original plan.
There won’t be a Death Star in the film!
The rebels mount a desperate attack on an Imperial stronghold in the Outer Rim. The plan is to infiltrate the forest moon of Endor, blow up the shield generator, and for the fleet to then provide support. Vader and Luke’s final confrontation will take place in the Emperor’s personal Star Destroyer.
Vader’s character arc will be a continuation of the previous film.
He has no respect for the emperor (established in the previous film) and tries to convince Luke to join him on the dark side of the force to overthrow the emperor!
Han Solo (might) die!
This one I’m not so sure on. If I did do it he would die in the Shield Generator’s explosion in a manner of self-sacrifice after a squadron of imperials storm the room. However execution would be incredibly difficult. We’ll see. If you have any suggestions I am open to them.

The main problem with the CG Yoda is that it looks nothing like OT Yoda.
Huh. It works really well but I don’t see the point? Are you trimming the revelation scene or is this the beginning of a new revelation scene? Is this the scene when Palpatine appoints Anakin to go to the council?
