Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971
Time

From what i have found out the pre special edition, THX version DVD's have both a widescreen version of the films and the full screen on the same disc.  Wonder if they are letterbox or anamorphic, according to what i read these were Dual Layer DVD's and something of a novelty at the time.  Of course now all DVD's or mostly all are DL.

I wonder if they are anamorphic, or if they are just the laserdisc video ported over.  The Special Editions came out later.

VINYLVINYLVINYL!
Time

I have some John Williams soundtracks on Vinyl.

Return of the Jedi RSO for instance sounds so much better than the 1997 special edition CD they applied harsh noise reduction to.

My collection is far from complete however, i need the indiana jones trilogy, superman, and would also like to collect the scores for star trek 1-6 on LP.

Star Trek VI came out only on  a foreign release LP and is scarce, i would like to get it without paying a king's ransom.

There are some modern soundtracks i think would be great on LP, but don't exist like Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings, or The Scores for Batman Begins and the Dark Knight.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

I say he has destroyed star wars.

The oot is all i want.  I will be stuck with a bad 1993 laserdisc port for my favorite film series. Even more insane he spent 30 million to covert episode1 for jar jar in 3-D, but he cannot afford to restore the real films that made star wars a classic of modern sci fi.

Converting episode one cost 5-10 million more than what fox spent to restore the entire trilogy from the negatives for the 1997 special edition.

Suppose a modern state of the art restoration costs a hundred million, even he could afford that being a billionaire.  I don't think it would cost 50, or sixty million.  For what it will cost to convert the special edition trilogy to 3-D 90 million, i think george could more than well afford it.

Sorry guys it is all my fault i should have never given any feedback, despite being asked for it.

Just don't leave feedback in my threads, I might have to cancel then.

LOL.

DJ you never got a single complaint from me on any of your projects.  My only problem was the discs they were archived on, bulpaq generation 4.  Now The chap in the uk who was kind enough to share them did not have to, even though they bit the big one.

Star Wars Prequels/Original Trilogy: The Complete Scores (Released)
Time

What would be great is the music for the clone wars cartoon series.

Only the film was released on CD.

Other scores i am interested in are Kotor 1 and 2, force unleashed 1 and 2.  And the as yet unreleased Old republic scores.

I think some of the Kotor cues have been re-recorded by a full orchestra for the new mmo game OLD Republic.

Ouch.  Well, I guess there's no reason to continue this then.  I better get this stuff packed up for a refund before the guarantee runs out.

CANCELLED.

Dude if it means anything to you your LP transfer sounded better than the 1997 Jedi release.

I could still hear the horns and stuff in the music.

Also perfect for the ipod.

How come you settled on wav instead of FLAC ? quality concerns or because you don't need to uncompress wav, some players don't play it?

Why i only said it sounded too clean because of the declicker.  I never heard the raw version.

If you are opting for digital clean, then you got what you wanted.

If you want warmer sound you capture and offer them raw warts and all.

Don't cancel your project because of one constructive criticism.  It did not sound that bad really it sounded good for an LP rip.  I just like the raw captures myself since i am a purist.  You already have one person chiming in saying they like it better because of the cleanup.

When 20thCentury Mark original posted his raw captures i made a cleaned version up for myself using goldwave.  What i resulted in sounded much like yours, only worse actually because you have a professional mixer.

By the way i only listened to the single jedi LP.  Don't cancel your whole project over that.  I have not listened to empire strikes back, story of rotj, lapti nek, etc.

Is there a way to use clean up in the software with a lighter touch?

How about just remove the volume limiting you applied i bet that even pop and click free jedi would sound better.

I think the original CD release was similar actually you had to crank it up, but better than a loss in dynamic range.  Which was pretty good on your capture the highs seamed to be clipped back a bit though, i did not analyze with software only with my ears so i might be off.

I went to the DAK website and apparently the clean up software is adjustable or you can use the automatic method.

Some of those CBS fox releases had the mono mix of the films stereo-ized to none too stellar effect, from what i hear.

I just watched the MGM From Russia with Love Pan and Scan second issue in analog sound only and it was tracked in stereo, ridiculous the mix is supposed to be monaural, i don't care if it is put into 2 channels, but making a fake stereo version of the theatrical mix is just stupid.  Remixes from the original stems are a different story.

One thing i did like about the UE DVD's was the correct aspect ratio, the original theatrical audio.  On most if not all the DVD's.

The first letterbox version of License to Kill was on Fox video, as i recall.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)
Time

So the blu ray of THX is in DTS and the movie was never even released in DTS.  The real version never was in Dolby as far as i know, but academy mono.  So what if the directors cut dvd was in 5.1 that was not Walter Murch's awesome mix.

Not sure if a re-release ever came out after star wars 77 in Dolby. There is no info to confirm or deny.  Though i bet the directors cut theatrical was in Dolby 5.1, or DTS.

American Graffiti's original mix is not on the DVD either, so Lucas has committed more alleged crimes against cinema than Star Wars.

What could be better than seeing your childhood raped in 3-D.  Just joking but that guy who saw the special edition in 1997 said "this is like watching your childhood being raped for 2 hours."

The guy was a trekkie and filmed Free Enterprise.  But did not give JJ Trek the same treatment, when the other trek nerds cried JJ raped our childhoods.

His defense he never liked Roddenberry trek and wrath of khan was his favorite film.

I will chime in. I listened to jedi and sounded to me too quiet like volume limiting was used, and also too clean the removal of the pops and clicks removed the detail.

I would like it if you had a raw version, but it is your project so i don't want to be a jerk or an asshole, you just asked my opinion.  And i am probably unfairly comparing to the 7fn transfers, but 20th century mark did not have expensive equipment like you bought and his sounded better too.

The guy selling this equipment has gotten a lot of great reviews so i am surprised it is the same company. Perhaps the clean up software is the problem.

Still in the future i will be wary to purchase the equipment that is sold on that site.

I am also very surprised he does not have a lossless soltion for the cleaning process . Working only in 16 bit sucks no 24 bit is lame.  Most older computers can only do 16 bit.  I guess it depends on how much you think you can capture from an LP. I guess 16 bit is okay if you are going straight to CD.

But if you want to make a lossless DVD-audio disc it is kind of not the best, imho.

Phantom Menace in 3-D in 2012. Has George finally lost his mind ?
Time

Jar Jar in 3-D stepping in poo, no thank you.

Of course this leads to a second blu ray release of the films and even still the originals won't be released just bad 3-D versions with even more tweaks and bad CGI.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118024771.html?categoryId=13&cs=1

Article where i found out this ridiculous news, i wish it was a late april fools joke.  Too bad it is proof of further raping of star wars.  How far can lucas  go to destroying star wars?

I desperately need another encore of hot waffles after this news, too bad they are not coming around here with the people versus george.

New Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 3 Trailer
Time

Loved the premiere, didn't even realize the first episode was a prequel to Rookies! I really seem to like the episodes where none of the main characters have much to do with it. While Anakin was in the second episode, he didn't do much, but I was surprised in what he did do. Instead of trying to arrest Ventriss, he was going to have the clones execute her. Finally, a hint of dark side!

Last week's episode wasn't terrible. Sure, it was Jar Jar, but he did what he does best, and they freaking went to Toydaria! I love Toydarians! The Jedi responsible for the Twi'leks was also great, brought a tear to my eye by the end.

That's what Clone Wars is able to do: make me emotional for characters. Even identical characters, or characters that are only around for that one episode.

On a side note, I like that all of the ship commanders look like they're the guys from Tarkin's Conference Room. A lovely tie in. Which reminds me, that's who this series needs: Tarkin. Not Greedo.

Oh god noooooooooo!, Lucash put Tarkin at the end of episode III, i don't want any more ruining of the oot.
