Do you believe in aliens?

yes you are doing a good jsut, but i am not talkign about gamma rays with regards to normal back ground radiation, i am talking abut gamma bursts google it, i say a documentary a few years ago about them and it talk about how one of these things could likely release enough gamma radiation to destroy all life within a HUGE area of space. i don't want to toss an estimate out there cause it would be a complete un educated guess. however, the range would be big enough that if there were enough of them they could create vast lifeless areas in our galaxy.

oh seans backing his stuff up now man so much as changed since i was gone.

yes sorry i was thinking of different moons. as for what i was saying about the harsh climates. yes there are things that could survive out there but fully evolved super survival bugs just don't pop up out of no where if any of our theories on how life came to be are even remotely accurate, well i find it very hard to believe something could evolve on a place such as Europa unless it was planted in which cause where did that life come from, the most likely explanation is earth making them not alien life.

as for the challenge i was giving, here ill put it simple with the number of stars that are out there or even in our galaxy why isn't the night sky way brighter then it was, cause realistically at and point you look up at in the sky there are probably 5 or 6 stars in your line of sight. and if space is empty there should be nothing to prevent the light of those stars from reaching us. So why is the night sky doted with stars NOT jam packed with them?

sean read up on gamma bursts you'll find them interesting, there a phenomenon which may lead to conclusion of life being EXTREMELY rare in the universe.

oh and 10^22 = 1000000000000000000000000

I believe you shouldnt ask questions which honestly given our current knowledge is impossible to solve one way or the other sean.

as for the moon near Jupiter it doesn't have liquid water, it has liquid methane, its THAT cold. i doubt we'll find anything living there because of how cold it is, it just seems to me that a place that is that cold the atoms aren't moving fast enough for them do do anything. as for that other volcanic planet your talking about the whole planet is molten, so unlikely anything there. bacteria don't tend to grow on lava flows, though there are some that can withstand alot of heat but lava flows i think thats just a little be too much for them.

as for the argument that the universe is too big, well that may be the case but the universe is also VERY harsh. look into the amount of radiation that is given off my super novas and things of that ilk. ill tell you this much if one were to happen in a near by system our solar system would not be a very nice place to live.

i should point out that i am not saying life doesnt exist out there only that really people we cant know.

Oh and a cookie for whoever can tell me the answer this paradox.

If the universe is so big so infinitely huge, estimates suggest numbers to be around 10^22 and if light always travels in a strait line and since space is empty literally mass has a density of around 10 or 15 atoms per square meter. why is the night sky black and doted with pin points of light?

"Starcraft 2 announced"

and then expecting us to go crazy and say "OMGOMGOMGOMG! I can't WAIT!! NO WAY! WOW!!!! HOLY CRAP, MAN! STARCRAFT!"

because I won't.

hmm, you sound like a very pleasant person, good to know you're around here to liven things up. i actually wasn't expecting a OMGOMG OMG response, i was expecting shock and happiness from people that actually LIKE Starcraft. And no i wasnt makin it all dramatic on purpose there was no music in my head at the time. go back to the star wars bud. Thanks for posting, wasnt very constructive or nice, but hey thanks for coming out. i hope to have a few more constructive comments tomorrow from some of this forums better posters.

and just so you know cause perhaps you didnt know it but starcraft was like Star Wars to any fan of the RTS format, its considered one of the best games in history, and near perfect, so the announcement of its sequel after 9 years of anticipation is pretty big.

I think Gorge lucas must have had some sort of unknown involvement in the making of spider man 3, because was bad. REAL BAD. i am almost inclined to say that it was sub par even when compared to the PT.

the story was NOT good. the characters were FAR underdeveloped, the flow was terrible, did i mention that the characters were under developed. oh and spiderman is now more versatile then a starving bacteria thats has turned on all its survival quarum sensing. like i thought venom was gonna be far stronger then regular spiderman, and what not, but there is no difference. horrible, ablsolutly horrible.

Colony Collapse - Why are the bees dying and what is the impact?
Time
hmm so i didnt read most of the thread but i did hear about this.

its not cell phones, there has been no dramatic increase in cell phone use between now and last year, or last year and the year before. What ever is wrong with the bees, it has to be something dramatically different between now and last year. this also rules out global warming, thought it maybe contribute in small ways. I personally have no idea what it is, but i think its gonna be a new virus, or disease. its not gonna be genetically modified foods either. GMF have been used for a long time, and doesnt explain a sudden drop in the pop, although you could make the arguement, if it is a new virus/disease, that the new gene in the plants could be from a plant the bees are not used to, that plant, had a virus, that it carried with it, that virus jumped species, and bam, the bees have no natural resistance and get whiped out. knowing what i know about GMFs it is extremely unlikely cause viruses dont follow genes, nor do all GMFs have new genes in the. Often, and this is especially the case in plants that grow faster, they just but a better promoter in the plant, at that gene. if you have any experience in biology you'd know what that means. and how harmless it is.
