Did anybody see Wall-E?
Time

wow this is one hell of a thread. I can't beleive you think Wall-E was a flop. some of the reviews i have heard on the movie were overwhelmingly positive. One local critic where i live, In vancouver said he thinks its one of the best movies of this decade.

For get about box office numbers and all that crap. It is purely meaningless. When a peice of crap like spiderman 3 can break records it just goes to show how valuable those numbers really are.

I was looking and your rating for movies, and well i am very surprised by most of them:

you thought Nemo was bad. Just talking to people i have not met one single person that disliked that movie. And the one i found to be the most humerous was ratatille(sp) you said your interested in CG. Well i am curious to know how much CG work you have actually done. My roommate who is currently doing his masters in Computer graphical programing, recommended the movie to me, saying that the graphics were amazing, and i agree with him. There was stuff in that movie that have never been tried before. Academic papers were written on some of the techniques they used in that movie. WallE was the same, it was out of this world remarkable. I havent seen robots, or cars so i cant comment on them but i did see the incredibles and i thought it was just ok. But still you amaze me, your interesting in CG but you still find someway to dislike movies like wall-E.

EU books: Thats it..

It's all in an effort to keep Star Wars feeling "real" and not making it escapism. Every single one of those deaths (well, actually, the more recent ones starting in Vector Prime) was a way to take the "These characters are safe" aspect away. It is one of the only reasons why I set the EU as an extremely low priority on my reading list. If I want realism, I'll watch the evening news. When I read Star Wars (or any other Sci-Fi for that matter) I want to escape. I want to go to a fantastical world where the characters I love win in the end and survive. I don't want to worry whether or not a character I've loved for years is going to suddenly bite it when I turn the page.

"Who's going to die next?" is what the EU has become. For that, I shun it.

see thats something that bothers me, if you were going for realism then some of the older characters would go. so far the big three haven't even been touched, instead they develop characters in the books then kill them off like 5 books later.

I donno if ill ever forgive denning for killing anakin in star by star, when the previous 5 books had highlight him as the major character of the series. FFS the 2 books before that had 3 characters anakin tahari, and vong. they fleshed out this huge story about him and tahari then boom.

the only major movie character to be killed so far is chewie.

Why are you even reading that shit?

I was into the EU for a while and got the hell out. Total waste of time and only designed to separate you from your money....go read a real saga...like Narnia or Tolkien.

Books, comic books, etc based on movies and TV shows are usually hit or miss anyway.

done them both many times

legacy of the force - book

really, well i know there foundations came out of fundamentalism, they were meant to be like Klingon's, in terms of warrior spirit, and they provided a counter opposite the technology based culture in starwars. It was like the zerg from starcraft or aliens from starship troopers meet with Klingon's from star trek, and religious fundamentalism. IT was hard core sci fi, but then again thats what star wars is.

Yeah i agree with you in a way a movie could never have told th NJO in quite the same way. the series was just too grand. I think parts of it could be told though it would take like a 4 movie ark to even begin to flesh out the story, but a TV series could be done on it.

Dennins trilogy post NJO, hmm i had mixed feelings on it. I didnt quite like where the story went, its possible that havign a short trilogy right after thsi19book arch left me expecting something i could never have gotten. The current legacy books of which dennings is part of is fantastic. Its interesting cause it shows how a fall from light to dark really happens. its almost like they failed with anakin skywalker, but this second time was perfect.

Of all the things i thought would come next the last thing i expected was an apology, thanks for that.

If you like the OT stuff, give the NJO a try, I have read a few books from before the NJO started and asides from the Thrawn trilogy most of them were pretty bla never read shadows. The books still have there ups and downs but the overall story really is great. If you want a good read, try Traitor out. Star by Star is also very good. Those two plus dark journey(i didnt like this one very much), and destiny's way really set up the current Legacy series. In fact star by star was such a tragic book, the repercussions from that story are still felt like 20 books later.

Anyway thanks for the apology good day.

I've read next to none of the post-ROTJ stories, but it's funny to hear about how many changes the authors make in the story, and how many more they just end up going back on.

I think that's why Lucas (or Dark Horse, or whoever's decision it was) just said screw it and jumped ahead by a hundred years to do the Legacy comic books.

dark horse wanted to make a comic book series, but the books are still being written chronologically, they skipped ahead 100 years cause well, by then everyone would have died at the very least from old age, and so it allows for writers of the books to write openly, and the comics to do whatever they wanted.

I like how SW novels have been reduced (or perhaps risen?) to a competition of which writer can manage the more shocking death of a main character. Starting to sound like comic books. Next thing you know Luke will reveal his secret identity on national TV, while Mon Monthma and Ackbar argue as to whether or not they should be required to register with the government on account of their superhuman powers ending with Ackbar's assassination and... eerrr, oh never mind.

R.I.P. Mara Skywalker.

mon mothma, and ackbar are both dead they died in the book timeline 15 previous to where the story currently is. Oh chewie is also dead, as is Anakin solo(han and leia's youngest son) Admiral Pellion (the guy in charge of the empire's fleet after the emperor died) he died to in the last book.

Maybe a good idea would be to read one of the books before you go and think they are crasy stories. Movies on par with the OT could be made using some of the books as templates its not all garbage.

oh one last thing, the writers aren't competing for deaths of main characters, stories are planned and arcs are fleshed out over a number of books, right now the are jsut finishing up a 9 book story arc and Mara's death wasn't something out of no where, its something that was built up over time.

If you had access to any of the following anti-virus programs, which would you choose?

I swear by the free version of AVG, it has served me well for years. I would imagine the pro version is just as good and better.

I have worked with computers with McAfee and Norton before and found them both very irritating, but that was back in the ninties, I suppose it is possible that they made improvements since then. I always judge my virus software by whether or not I can tell it is running, if it makes itself obvious then I don't want it, if it is doing its job behind the scenes without bother me, then I am happy with it. So far AVG has done a good job of working for me and keeping quiet about it.

mcaffee and norton, you better buying a CD worth of spyware and installing it then using those two peices of garbage. They are both INSANE resourcehogs and in ways jsut as bad as the software your trying to prevent getting onto your computer. I personally use Sophos because UBC provides it for free and its so much nicer.

KIRA IS A CLONE.

this season is going to be great i think, and also ALOT darker then any we have yet to see, the blood in battle and the effect of sol shooting adama, you can tell this is going to be intense. I almost thought that he had actually killed him for a second and that they were starting off with a HUGE twist. can you imagine. adama going down like that out of no where in the first damn episode.

WHo do you guys think is the last cyclon, originally i thought it was gayas cause it seemed like he heard the music too in the last ep of season 3, but after watching it again i think i was imagining it. and therefore my vote is for Roslin.
