Info & Info Wanted: Godfather 1 and 2 Chronoligical version edit project?

It would be cool to see either way.

Well that's what I'm referring to. The chronological edit that was released on VHS and laserdisc in the "Godfather Epic" or "Godfather Saga" box sets back in the late 80s and early 90s. It has also aired on TV a few times on the Bravo and Spike TV channels, sometimes referred to as "Godfather: A Novel for Television". I have a VHS copy of it on TV, but I'd like a nice quality commercial-free version ripped from the laserdiscs. I'd do it myself, but I lack the equipment and the laserdisc set. There was a lot of talk a few months back about someone acquiring the box set off Ebay and doing a nice fan-edit, but I guess those plans fizzled out.

I'm thrilled to finally see The Game posted to Myspleen. I've been eagerly awaiting it for the last 2 months since I first saw you mention it. It's great to finally get a decent special edition of this movie to go with the other official SE's of Fincher's films. I can't believe the studio has procrastinated this long on doing an SE of The Game. One has been rumored for like 3 years and who knows if it will ever come out. I'm tired of waiting, and I'm glad you ripped the Criterion laserdisc for us. It may end up being a better SE than any eventual special edition the studio produces. I even like the custom DVD cover you made for it.

So what's next after The Game? I'm hoping you'll do the Jaws or E.T. supplements soon. Are there any new projects you have planned now besides the ones mentioned in the first post of this thread?

Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released)

Wow that's great to hear that someone has it. I hope Rikter can author it and get it posted to Myspleen. I've been eager to watch this again for a long time now.

I wish I could find someone out there that has the extended TV version of Ron Howard's "Far and Away" which is like 30-40 minutes longer than the theatrical version. I've only heard about it and have never seen it.

Technically it's better to seek out the extended cut that aired on the Encore/Starz cable channels since its commercial-free and has all the profanity/violence un-edited. The ABC cut was censored.

I remember about 3-4 years ago Encore was running this extended cut frequently and I watched it a couple of times. It really is much better than the theatrical version and adds a lot more depth to the characters and the world they live in. I would love to get this preserved. From what I've heard, it seems unlikely that we'll ever get it on an official DVD given the animosity between Costner and Reynolds over the directing of the film. However they seemed to get along well during their commentary track for the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves special edition DVD that came out 2 yrs ago, so who knows...

Info & Info Wanted: Godfather 1 and 2 Chronoligical version edit project?
Time

A few months back there was some talk in one of the old threads about someone starting a project of ripping the Godfather Saga/Epic laserdiscs which have the first two films re-edited into chronological order with additional scenes included. Whatever became of this project? I’d still love to see it done.

Mod Edit: See eliasbboy’s posts for a possible project release - though finished, it seems it was never made available / sent out?

Also see FanFiltration’s posts for a separate Godfather project - The Godfather: 1901-1980 Epic Edit (Released)

Info & Help: looking for... other ld-rips to dvd movies ex. blade runner int cut, songs of the south, frighteners dir cut - and much much more...

i'm working on Jaws. I was just going to sync up the laserdisc audio with the remastered video. Not sure if I'm going to include a PCM track (Probably won't allow the current video quality with a PCM track) but it won't be as compressed.

So you're actually going to be doing the Jaws movie too? I thought you were just doing some extras as mentioned in the original thread. I hope you'll put those on a seperate disc because I'm not really interested in getting a bootleg of the movie itself since the original mono track was already included on the newest special edition DVD.

However... a fun project might be for you to edit the deleted scenes back into the movie like the extended version shown on TV sometimes. That would be worth downloading.

Info: Anyone Have The Fight Club Workprint? Or any workprints for that matter?
Time
You have the Blade Runner workprint? Of the original version? That needs to be preserved on DVD! Have you told the guys over at the blade runner thread about this?

Which thread is that? I don't see anything recent in the forum other than that Bladerunner DVD covers thread.

Anyway, it's a camcorder bootleg of a screening of the Denver/Dallas workprint shown back in 1990 shortly after it was discovered (read all about it in Paul Sammon's "Future Noir" book). Being a camcorder bootleg, its obviously not going to be great quality but its definitely watchable and is reportedly the only known copy of the workprint circulating out there. I got a DVD copy of it over a year ago. It's similar to the 1992 Director's Cut with no narration by Ford and no happy ending, but it's missing the unicorn dream. It has alternate titles at the beginning with the "dictionary definition" of what a replicant is. It also has minor bits of scenes in it that aren't in any other version, such as the topless dancers wearing hockey masks in one of the street scenes in Los Angeles. "Future Noir" really details every little difference in this workprint version compared to the theatrical/international/1992 dir.cut versions if you have that book (which I highly recommend!).

I've seen this sold on Ebay before, so I know other people out there have it. That's why I was waiting to see if someone else torrented it first just to save me the trouble of doing it myself.

Info Wanted: Harry Potter Question... any Edits with deleted scenes added?
Time
Haven't they aired both The Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets on TV now, both as extended cuts with additional scenes that weren't even in the DVDs right? Did ADM use these as sources for his extended cuts, or did he just use what was available on the DVDs? Are his extended cuts torrented anywhere yet? I didn't see them on Myspleen.

I've got a bootleg of the Bladerunner "Denver/Dallas" workprint, recorded by camcorder at a screening of it in 1990. Despite being a camcorder bootleg, it's decent quality and definitely watchable. There was just one moment during the film where some idiot stood up in front of the screen to walk out of the theater.

I've considered posting it to myspleen but wanted to wait and see if someone else posted it first.

That's okay... I figured it was a longshot anyway and you've got a lot of other great projects in the works I'd like to see finished before something like that anyway

For your Indiana Jones stuff, do you have the original TOD teaser that was included on the first VHS release of Raiders? If not, I have a decent rip of it I did a year ago. Although you might already have a better quality version judging by the other Indy materials you've compiled since you're using laserdisc sources mostly instead of VHS. Also did you ever catch the 30 minute Entertainment Tonight special on the making of the Indiana Jones movies? They ran it 3-4 years ago back when they were doing these programs on old TV shows or movies once a week, similiar to the E! True Hollywood stories. It was pretty good for what it's worth and it even showed a brief clip of Tom Selleck's audition as Indy.

Since you're a collector of rare behind-the-scenes documentaries, do you have Coppola's 2-hour "Hearts of Darkness" doc on Apocalypse Now? It was released on VHS and (I think) laserdisc, but is likely never to be released on DVD. All I have is a poor quality VHS dub of it and would like to get a good quality laserdisc version if one exists.

Any progress on the Godfather Epic/Saga project that was discussed earlier in this thread? I've seen it on TV a few times but would love to have the commercial-free uncensored chronological version on DVD. I doubt Paramount has any plans to officially release it in the near future (if ever) even though it came out on VHS and laserdisc long ago. So fan preservation may be our only hope of getting this on disc.

On a related note I just saw a commercial on Spike TV saying that they'll be showing the chronological version of GF 1 and 2 (aka "Godfather: A Novel for Television") starting on Sep 27 for 4 nights in case anyone who has never seen it just wants to check it out and see what the big fuss is over. This is my preferred version of watching GF 1 and 2 as opposed to the theatrical cuts, and not just because of the extra scenes throughout the film. I really hope we can get this on DVD someday.

Speaking of TV extended versions, does anyone have good copies of the Waterworld extended version (preferrably the uncensored one that was shown on the Encore cable channel a few times and not the censored network tv version). The extended version of Ron Howard's "Far and Away" is also another one on my wishlist. I think it was 30-40 minutes longer than the theatrical cut.

Finally, how about a decent copy of Coppola's "Hearts of Darkness"? All I have is a poor quality VHS-dub. Was this released on laserdisc? It's long OOP and likely to never be released on DVD.

Any chance that you or someone else has the Criterion laserdisc of "Adventures of Baron Munchausen"? That's another one like The Game and Bram Stoker's Dracula in which we're stuck with a barebones DVD while the laserdisc was loaded with extras. Seems like the studio keeps procrastinating on doing a special edition and I'm tired of waiting for one. Criterion ported Gilliam's other 2 films of his "Dreams Trilogy" to DVD (Time Bandits and Brazil) so I'd like to have their version of Munchausen as well. It might ultimately be better than any potential special edition the studio eventually releases to DVD.
