RETURN OF THE JEDI 1983 THEATRICAL VERSION RECONSTRUCTION DVD by Harmy (MKV, NTSC DVD5 AND PAL DVD9 AVAILABLE)

My GOUT DVD's will only collect dust now.

I totally agree. Between this and Adywan's ESB reconstruction the only GOUT I have any use for is for SW. And at the moment I think I'm using the GForce version or pwned I can't remember.

Unfortunately SW is my favourite film and the one I watch more often. I know Adywan said he'll be doing a reconstruction of it in the future, which is awesome, but the sad thing is no matter how many years that is off in the future he'll still surely beat a Lucasfilm restoration.

Any way, I downloaded the DVD5 two nights ago and sat down last night with a glass of wine intending to scan through it on my 50inch tv (previously only watch the mkv on my computer monitor). Well I ended up watching almost 3/4 of it instead (scanned through the battle of endor) with a couple of extra glasses of wine. Pretty epic.

I had the same wow reaction as watching Adywans ESB reconstruction, was it last May? Sure it's not perfect but neither is Adywan's and what in this world is. But it's pretty damn close to my personal viewing preference without being a true theatrical restoration. And with Lucas being such a shithead it's much more than adequte as my go to for watching ROTJ.

I also noticed the black frames already mentioned. I just thought it was my dvd/player being a bitch.

A tiny issue, that may not even be an issue:

This shot looked weird and out of the ordinary noticeable. Is it the compression that's caused it? I checked the mkv and it's the same. Maybe the DVD9 will clear it up. Watching it in motion it looks a bit blocky.

Ok that's why I couldn't work it out I couldn't see the cut because I was just quickly scanning through it.

It's a fair compromise and I certainly don't care about the thx.com thing I was just surprised to see it when I didn't recognise it as the SE credits.

Oh, and thanks for all your hard work. And a thank you to those that contributed sound mixes, subtitles and who are working on the dvd encodes.

Very good effort Harmy.

I've only watched it on my monitor but I liked what I saw. The subs will take a little getting used to only because I'm not used to seeing it that way.

The gout footage is most notable during the sail barge battle but that's to be expected. I was quite happy with the rest.

What version of the credits did you use? There's thx.com at the end but I didn't see any SE credits when I scanned through.

Adventures in Raising the Next Generation of Original Star Wars Fans

And this is why I don't want to have kids - it's too difficult to hide the PT from them. j/k.

An unenviable position to be in, good luck with that.

If I did have children I'm sure sooner or later they'd find out the about the PT movies and I just thought of this now, when prompted, I'd honestly tell them I don't have them to watch, I don't like them, they're pretty silly/bad and besides they were written and directed by a different person than the original movies - mostly true in reality and certainly true symbolically.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Harmy that photshop of Han and Greedo with walkie talkies is the best thing ever.

Now if you photoshoped walkie talkies swinging into the AT-ST instead of logs we might have a new winner.

Now I've got to go visit the home theatre forum out of curiosity. What is wrong with me?

So wait let me get this straight. The best case scenario is that the Blu-Ray release of the OT is slightly better than the 04 SE and this will better enable fan edit restorations. Wow Lucasfilm, thank you, here is my money.

Fuck that noise. Do not want.

I was going to say that I'm so sure that the Blu-Ray release of the OT will be the 04 transfers only in HD (excluding audio mix differences) that if this wasn't the case I'd personally refund the purchase price of the set to the first person to prove otherwise.

But that may be the beer in me talking. Besides that might instigate people to go buy the set that wouldn't normally in the hope of a freebie and they may be disappoint.

The future of Lucasfilm
Time

I'm not so sure how much ILM and Skywalker Sound have to with Lucasfilm as far as if one went under the other would survive,

But hasn't Lucas said that no more films will be made after his death? I can't imagine Lucasfilm won't continue with cartoons, tv shows, novels and comics ie the expanded universe. And I can't imagine Lucas caring that this continues after his passing, just like he doesn't have a problem with it now.

All that ancillary stuff is fodder for more merchandise. From what I understand The Lego Star Wars range is predominately Clone Wars orientated and is doing quite well. Who needs films to sell toys?

Fuck me.

Just out of curiosity I wanted the read the 1 star reviews and their reasoning on the amazon page.... this guy is everywhere.

The shocking thing is that Lucas will let you buy the OT without the PT.

That's the first thing I thought upon seeing the announcement. Following this vein if/when the OOT restored and released on blu-ray/new format I won't have to buy the PT. I'm very surprised they're giving the consumer options.

edit: sorry about the length of the screencap and the comment being cut off but we can all probably fill in the gaps.

And way to go Kenneth using your mothers amazon account to post your rhetoric.

Star Wars: Frames
Time

You know the $3,000 set of books containing high quality stills from all six films. This set has already been mentioned in the forums but a search didn't yield any results.

http://www.wired.com/underwire/2010/12/3000-star-wars-book/

There's video containing a glimpse into the set and the process of selecting the images/frames. This kind of makes me feel ill so I'm not going to comment any further other than it definitely (no surprise really) contains SE only images.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Thanks ChainsawAsh. That's pretty much what I thought.

I'm more of a fan of the more common Beru dub just because it's ingrained in me from growing up with that version and the "Close the blast doors" line is more important to me than the tractor beam line so I'm kind of s**t out of luck.

That was the only good thing about seeing the SE in '97, I was excited the close the blast doors was back.
