Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Harmy - I don't know if this has come up elsewhere since you have separate threads for each film, but now that they're all out and you did case art, how about some accompanying disc art?  And if you really feel ambitious, how about a Trilogy cover for those of us that want to put them in a single three disc case?

I'd also be interested in a trilogy cover.

I do have a guess as to why they did the "NO".  Granted, it'd be a very stupid reason, but I wouldn't put it past them to care about something so trivial and not saber colors.

It's a tradition to have a dramatic "NOOO" in every Star Wars film:

TPM: Obi-Wan after Qui-Gon is stabbed.

AOTC: Obi-Wan upon Anakin's charging at Dooku.

ROTS: Anakin before attacking Mace/Vader after waking up.

SW: Luke after Obi-Wan is killed

ESB: Luke after learning the truth.

ROTJ: Some argue Luke screams "NO" after Vader threatens to turn Leia, but "officially" he says "NEVER".  So as far as I can recall, there was never a "NO" in Jedi... until now.

Granted, I AM NOT SAYING THIS MAKES THE NEW "NO" REASONABLE BY ANY MEANS.  It still sucks like hell.  I just wanted to point out their possible motivation.

Why couldn't it be this guy instead:

"Nooo..... Noooooooooooooo!!!"

The problem with the leaks causing pre-orders to be cancelled is that now Lucas will claim that people decided they didn't have to buy them because they pirated them. They're going to ignore the why's and just look at the numbers. They just lost a whole bunch of sales, plain and simple. I don't see this boding well for us.

I can also see this as a potential result. Which is a massive issue if finally people are voting with their wallets and it's blamed on something entirely different.

But while a lot of people with an online presence are saying they're canceling their pre-orders that's still very much the minority when it comes to the potential market for this set, sales I'm sure will still be strong.

And while for a lot of people this is apparently the straw that broke the camels back is Vader's noooooooooo any worse than Ghost Hayden or Greedo shooting? How can you live with one and not the other.

I think if the "apologists" have got their panties in a twist it's because Lucasfilm supposedly promised fixed lightsabers and other improvements and didn't deliver. They wanted a "revisited" type update but all they got was shitty 2004 transfers on a blu-ray disc.

edit: sweet Curb gif.

Some changes discussion on mf.com

User897 said:

Changes noticed:

01. Escape pod launcher lights now have heat trails over them, making them flicker.
02. Escape pod hatch is no longer blue.
03. More moisture vaporators added.
04. Leia hologram now looks more blue and prequelish.
05. Treadwell droid behind Uncle Owen while talking at the table (Was this there before?).
06. Binary sunset still has the passing clouds added.
07. The area beneath the Landspeeder actually looks GOOD.
08. As pointed out by Adywan, there are now rocks in front of R2 in his hiding spot in the canyon.
09. If you thought the DVD version of Obi-Wan's Krayt Dragon roar was hideous, keep your thumb on the Mute button. That's right. It's WORSE now.
10. The new CG rocks that covered R2 are magically gone after he comes out of hiding.
11. 2004 detention center hallway still there and actually looks good.
12. Obi-Wan/Vader duel on Death Star lightsaber blades are bright and more consistent, though Vader's is a bit pink in some of the shots.
13. Millennium Falcon vs. Sentry TIE's, the shot that was revealed to us by LFL at the press event with the partial laser bolt IS FIXED in this MKV.
14. Brass can now be heard during X-Wing dive to the Death Star.
15. The glitch under Vader's TIE and his escorts after "Three marks at two-ten!" has been fixed.
16. Energy wave sound from Death Star explosion sounds more balanced.
17. Vader's breath sound can be heard when his TIE is spinning, but is very faint.

10 remind me of the windows in cloud city.

13 and 15 are supposed known fixes from the press event, I doubt they're fake.

What does it always mean, this "Humdinger"?

It's a glitch to a single frame a member here canohumdinger found in the DVD and HD Broadcast of ANH that went unnoticed for 7 years until it was found recently. There's countless posts on it here. And:

How exactly do we know that this is what will be on the blu rays?  Aren't there still a couple of weeks before they land in the stores?

A month out from release date anything is fair game to leak, pretty much once it rolls off the production line.

Adywan, can you let us know if the humdinger was fixed? That is after you've slept.

I'm looking forward to your appraisal of ROTJ. And it is very interesting you said the audio for ESB is the same as 2004. I'm wondering if Matt Wood is even in there.

But like you said there's a lot of bullshit coming from the PR department about this release. They changed two lightsaber shots and suddenly everyones declaring the lightsabers are fixed.

I really don't care about additional changes because what's two changes or two hundred? And it's an interesting oddity and the unintentional hilarity resulting is awesome.

But I rhetorically ask why?

What magnificent new technology was created in the last seven years that allowed George to add eyelids to Wicket? Did this lack of blinking ewok creating technology in 2004 prevent George from achieving his original vision and finally completing his masterpiece?

It's all pretty fucking pointless. These are old movies, let them be old movies.

And thanks for all the clips and screencaps. I weep for Adywan having to do this. That Krayt Dragon was as horrible today as it was when you posted it months ago.

At this point, nearing 50, I don't have any interest in the film Star Wars anymore. My 2006 GOUT is enough for me, which I last watched five years ago.  Lucas has contaminated the franchise to the point of it being toxic.

Someone pointed out the other day (sorry, I forgot who) that this is the only film in history that has this much fanbase hatred and venom. Lucas has once again broke new ground - he's actually managed to turn his own fanbase against itself.

I'm only here to support the cause, expose the decades of lies, and to discuss my personal Star Wars canon with fellow nerds.  Which, by the way, has been largely formed & guided by some of you here.  That's a big deal to me, in case I don't thank you folks enough.  If it weren't for you, I wouldn't even be a Star Wars fan anymore.

Truth be told, if a proper release of the original Star Wars were released, I wouldn't rush out to get it.  It's not fun anymore.  It's become work to be a fan.

Foster, Daley, and Zahn are Star Wars now.

It may not be your thing, and that's completely fine, but I'd love for you to see Harmy's Star Wars De-specialized Edition.

You may think meh I've got no interest in this Star Wars or it may rekindle the fire you once had, who knows.

If these are indeed real then where the hell is this so called colour correction that the OT has supposed to have got?

Ah, millenniumfalcon.com - crushing my spirits since 2004.

It's them, I believe, that premiered the clips/screenshots of Hayden in ROTJ and the new Emperor in TESB back in the day.

So since we are in or close to leak season, what are specific shots or things which people can use to verify if some release is an actual blu-ray rip.  And Part Two: What things should someone check for once it's verified as being a blu-ray rip.

So far the only things we KNOW are:

Phantom Menace: CGI Yoda
Attack of the Clones: ?
Revenge of the Sith: ?
A New Hope: ?
Empire Strikes Back: Wampa arm cover
Return of the Jedi: Proper saber cross in front of Palps

Once it is confirmed, look through the Visual Comparisons and see if you notice anything else. Most of the 2004 work was very subtle (surprisingly), so you would have to be really observant.

http://picasaweb.google.com/102542760950977079734

Also one would assume the leaked blu-rays will be absent of the infamous humdinger glitch as it's supposed to be fixed.

If your going to label the HD broadcast rips as the leaked Blu-rays why not go one better and upload Harmy's HD reconstructions and propagate that lie. If people downloaded them thinking they were the Blu-rays it would blow their freaking minds.

I contacted the BBFC two weeks ago about the head but and whether it would finally be in the UK version of AOTC. They got back to me and said they were in the process of going through all the films and materials and couldn't tell me, suggesting I keep an eye on their website....

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they're exactly the same discs as the U.S ones. That seems to be more and more common these days with Blu-Ray releases.

That's very interesting, he was asked some good questions. Maybe he can be made aware of this site and post here.

He'd be an invaluable resource for restorations and he seemed very forthcoming.

I'll respond to this post first but I've also seen your posts at TP.

You got part one of the DVD5? How did you get that - did you do a search for Harmy and SW at the upload site?

I just want to make it clear that's not what I up'ed.

I has a bad feeling the same captcha problem would occur.

I tried to re-zip into smaller chunks couldn't get it to work and honestly I don't want to mess with the original rar.

I'll try another site that can handle 2 gigs but that won't be for at least another day until a get the opportunity to start it and when it's all said and done it'll probably be 2 days from now.

Also--Fox spent $20 million restoring and updating the films from 1993-1997. The films were very meticulously restored, by hand and also digitally. The only bit to do would be to wash the negative again (it's been handled since then) and do a 4K scan, and then retrieve the missing pieces from storage (or other print sources if they are damaged), clean them and splice them in...

I wouldn't go giving Lucasfilm the idea that they can use the restoration they did in the mid 90's as the basis for an OUT release.

They could clean up the excised material and reinsert it back into the print and we'd have the OUT but being who they are you just know they'd fuck it up and they'd be a cgi frog in the back ground or something.

Then where would be stand? Thanks for the release guys but can you release it again 'cause we found some cg still in there ;)

Of course I know what you mean and I'm only half serious but still, it's Lucasfilm...

Using MS Paint, I traced over characters introduced in the OT with blue, then I traced over characters introduced in the PT with green.

(the ones I didn't trace over are ones I don't know)

Seriously, look how much green (PT characters) there are than blue (OT characters). Notice how they made Vader, R2, and 3P0 huge compared to the other characters just to try and make the OT seem a bit bigger. roflmao

An actual improvement?

I do believe that's Veers there amongst that sea of green. Or at least the love child of Veers and Pruneface.

I'm sure there's a wookieepedia page on that.
