General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

^ I agree and I don’t really understand it because the books are still on the shelves in most bookstores , it’s not like they don’t exist anymore . I think the ideal situation would be for Disney to put out direct to video /streaming animated adaptations ala the DC animated universe of that material . And being a fan of the original Marvel Star wars comic , I remember a time in the early 90s when those stories were considered an alternate universe . Did not bother me all that much , I just found ways to fit them into my personal head canon . Then of course , they decided those stories had some merit after all and incorporated them into later novels . But the new movies would have had to incorporate hundreds of stories if they had continued the books in the films and the general public would have no idea what the hell was happening .

Info & Info Wanted: Burger Chef / Burger King promotions
Time

I can’t recall ever seeing a Burger Chef restaurant back then. My family moved around the country several times over the years in the 70’s.
It’s possible they were operating in regions where there wasn’t a Burger King, and hence could offer the same Coca Cola movie tie-in promotions.
When I lived in New Jersey back in the late 70’s there were no Kentucky Fried Chicken locations to be found. But there was a burger chain called Gino’s that offered KFC food in addition to their own menu. That massively confused me as a kid. 😉

JEDIT:I swear I saw the posters at BK too. I never got one for some reason. One wall in my room was already covered in SW posters and newspaper clippings. Still have all my glasses though. 😃

Thank you for the response and info …very interesting

Science Fiction or Space Fantasy - what is Star Wars
Time

Yeah, seriously. It starts with a reworded version of “Once upon a time;” an evil wizard-knight who’s also a Lord kidnaps a princess while the princess tries to contact a good wizard-knight to help fight evil; the good wizard takes a lowly farmboy yearning for adventure under his wing and starts training him to be a knight; the pair recruit a rogue and his beastly sidekick to help them on their journey; the group infiltrates the evil castle to rescue the princess; the wizard-knights duel with swords…

…yep, no fantasy whatsoever in there.

The original header on the splash page of the original Marvel Star Wars comic read …Long ago in a galaxy far far way …there exists a state of cosmic civil war . A brave alliance of underground freedom fighters has challenged the tyranny and oppression of the awesome galactic empire .This is their story ! Stan Lee presents :Star Wars the greatest SPACE FANTASY of all ! so there’s that . and the whole a long time ago in a galaxy far far away is inherently suggestive of the whole long ago and far away trope of fantasy as well .

I don’t know about this , seems to me like this " easter egg " is kind of retroactive and made up on the fly …https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2018/09/author-jason-fry-shines-light-on-a-long-hidden-star-wars-easter-egg.html I thought the guy was shouting " The Empire’s Down "! and I have always thought of Tatooine’s twin suns as G1 and G2 since they were named that in the 1978 Star Wars Storyboook I had as a kid and still have a beat up copy of .

Hey, which one sucks the least: 1, 2, 3, or 4? I’m thinking 3 or 4.

I am going to say 2 looks the best , I would recommend 3 books to seek out 1. How to draw comics the Marvel way by Stan Lee and John Buscema 2. Constructive anatomy by George Bridgman 3.Dynamic anatomy by Burne Hogarth . All three are excellent for teaching you to break down figures and heads into their basic components and simple shapes that will give you a good foundation to build on .These books helped me improve by leaps and bounds when I was learning to draw .Study and copy them and you will improve quickly .

there is a difference between wholesome and an outright asshole

You’re not familiar with his comedy. Observe as Jon Stewart laughs his head off as Norm pokes fun at Marlon Brando’s Oscar acceptance speech. You either get it or you don’t. That’s comedy. Everyone who knows him loves him.

I am more than familiar with him and have laughed at some of his jokes in the past , however , in that article you posted , the equating of Down Syndrome to a lack of empathy diminishes my opinion of him as his comment diminishes those with down syndrome . He calls for forgiveness and a second chance and then makes that comment ? WTF ?
