ahhh fuck 2020 man .
ahhh fuck 2020 man .
sounds logical to me .
did anyone catch what looks like an Echo base interior wall behind the Falcon when they show footage of the arrival at cloud city in the previous video around 4:22 ? …https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yix_9g_Ob74
^ This. not to mention , the schematics at the briefing right before the battle of Yavin in the original Star Wars movie were computer graphics …https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMeSw00n3Ac watching this video , it’s not hard to see the early precursor to the techniques in use today
Mellody Hobson ,wife of George Lucas, was named board chair of Starbucks this week . The first black woman in the role…https://us.cnn.com/2020/12/09/business/starbucks-mellody-hobson/index.html
The Empire would probably have a local leader that would order troops to shoot a crowd like that.
This very thing happens at the start of the new canon novel Aftermath by Chuck Wendig .
^ oh man , that ABC Sunday night at the movies intro gives me the warm and fuzzies ! A piece of my childhood . Thanks for sharing !
There was also a red protocol droid walking around Echo Base in The Empire Strikes Back when Han first walks through the hangar towards his ship . R3-PO…https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/R-3PO
wow ! That photo of Charles Dance looks spot on for Thrawn . Is that a personal photo of him or from his role in a movie ? While watching Game Of Thrones , I thought he would make a great Imperial villain for Star Wars , but never considered him for Thrawn , as Tywin Lannister commanded respect through fear ,whereas those under Thrawn respected him out of Loyalty and his willingness to stand up for them .( The ensign he had Rhuk execute in Heir to the Empire notwithstanding ) .I think the audio book narrator that imitates Mikklsen that Bonez mentioned is Marc Thompson . Marc Thompson actually did his own take on Thrawn before that in the 2oth anniversary audiobook of Heir To The Empire ,and I thought he did an awesome job on all of the male characters in that one. He later changed his voice to impersonate Mikklsen after Thrawn debuted on Rebels .
you make some good points Bonez , the best way to tell if Brosnan would be up to the challenge I think , would be to see him get his wish …https://www.thelivemirror.com/pierce-brosnan-james-bond-villain/ I believe he has the range and would do a great job .
for me it’s not so much an interest in seeing a famous actor playing the part , it’s more about Brosnan’s aristocratic voice and demeanor . Coincidentally , the fact that he plays an Art thief in The Thomas Crown Affair , helps too , as Thrawn has a penchant for art. And , I think Mikkelsen probably will play him in live action , and the glowing red eyes and blue skin were enough to emphasize that he was an alien to me . Although , I always pictured him without pupils , as depicted in the Heir To The Empire comics adaptation . If Mikkelsen does play him , and they have to go with the arches , I hope they do make them a lot more subtle.
I have seen that poster , but imagined Brosnan in the role long before seeing that . And yeah , if Thrawn shows up , I think Lars will play him , as all of the other Rebels /Clone Wars characters who have appeared so far on The Mandalorian have been played by their voice actors . Just lose the big arches on his head please ! I also think Jon Hamm from Madmen could do the character justice.
so , do you think we will finally get to see Thrawn in live action in this series ? If so , who would be the best choice to play him ? I always picture James Bond era Pierce Brosnan in the role when I read the original Thrawn trilogy from the early 90s . Whoever should play him , I hope those arches on his forehead from the animated Rebels show are not incorporated into his look . No McThrawn please .
Thanks for the acknowledgment ATM , that is indeed what I see on my 95 vhs copy . I still wonder what caused this change.
That is pretty cool. Was there similar art done for the other two films in the Sequel Trilogy?
yes. The artist is Hugh Fleming , here is a link that includes his posters for the other two movies as well as the one posted above…https://hyeahreylo.tumblr.com/post/189595588317/star-wars-sequel-trilogy-posters-by-hugh-fleming
I’ve mentioned this before elsewhwere…on the VHS 1995 THX fullscreen release , there is a gaffe with the lasers on the TIE Fighters being blue instead of green in ESB. It happens right after the Star Destroyers take evasive action and goes into the asteroid canyon chase . It looks more like the laser fire from the Cylon raiders in the original Battlestar Galactica for a few moments , then reverts back to the normal green fire . I wonder what the story behind that was ? Any speculation or definitive answers out there ?
This is pretty convincing …according to this article , the theory of it being tied to Snoke is accurate and they even use Snokes theme when they first see the clones in the tanks …https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/snoke-mandalorian-baby-yoda-clone-tank
I remember there was a limited theatrical release of the first Savage Oppress arc that edited several episodes together into a feature . I never got to see it though as it was only available in very few venues .Here is one of the posters for it …https://movieposters.ha.com/itm/movie-posters/animation/star-wars-clone-wars-lucasfilm-2010-one-sheet-265-x-38-animation/a/161333-50443.s I also seem to remember seeing another poster for it with a yellow background , but can’t seem to find an image of it . Did anyone see this release in 2010 ? If so , how did it differ from the episodes that were aired after it’s release ?
Ah, that makes sense. I’ve seen other Wampa sketches (by Joe Johnston I think) which is much closer to the one they filmed but didn’t use. Either way though, its a really cool and creepy design, and since the face was barely shown originally its fun to see McQuarrie reimagine it.
McQuarrie did some awesome packaging art for the Micro machines playsets around the same time . I saw this one at an antique store a couple of years ago and bought it immediately , it proudly sits on the shelf above my stairs …https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m80161997129/?gclsrc=aw.ds&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=11088723978&utm_content=t0&adgroup=110108419673&network=g&device=c&merchant_id=147715357&product_id=m80161997129&product_id=696733478052&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1-m2pOeR7QIVAdvACh2DGQ2aEAkYEyABEgJy-fD_BwE
this is pure eye candy !
I don’t know why I’ve never seen this before now, but McQuarrie’s Wampa design was way creepier than any of the live action versions they actually built.
^ I think that came from a book called The Illustrated Star Wars Universe from 1995 . It featured concepts for the films as well as many new paintings and Illustrations by McQuarrie and others . I think this is one of his new paintings at the time and not actual concept art from the time of ESB production …https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/758653.The_Illustrated_Star_Wars_Universe
I was looking through some old pulp magazine covers and came across these two images that gave me quite the Death Star vibe.
The first one is a reprint of H.G. Welles The First Men in the Moon and the orb is only a few meters across, however in this cover art it look gigantic, like its looming over the lunar surface. I wonder if Lucas might have seen either of these and been inspired.
Amazing Stories Volume 02 #11 (1928)
Amazing Stories Volume 07 #07 (1932)
That second cover has a lot of similarity to Ralph McQuarrie’s concept painting of the Y wings diving on the Death Star , especially the shapes on the bottom , which are flipped to the top in McQuarrie’s painting …https://gmd3ddesigns.com/2012/03/04/rip-ralph-mcquarrie-1929-2012/
just stumbled across this while surfing for new music on youtube and listened to the whole thing …Holy Shit ! This is the same Gary Numan who did the early 80’s song In Cars ! I had no idea he was still around and making music . He now has a dark edgy industrial sound , it’s like he rose from his own ashes as a fiery phoenix to come back with a vengeance . I love this and there is not a bad track on the whole album …easily the best new music I have heard in 20 years…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r36v1grp3I0&list=OLAK5uy_kOQ1bvt5ApKAPQFGazmRi9ie1YsT_lpS4
on the positive side ,the delay gives me time to re read the book . I just watched the Spicediver Redux edit again the other day and the first part of the first sci-fi mini series . To me ,they are like comparing apples to oranges . The Lynch film is my fave ( the spicediver redux is my go to version ) and the sci fi miniseries is more like a stage play with early cgi backdrops . Neither project really gets Baron Harkonnen right imho , both versions are over the top . The Lynch version is very maniacal cartoon villian with Lynchian weirdness and the sci -fi version even has him breaking the fourth wall at one point and they also use too many tilted camera angles for the Harkonnen scenes . I get it , they are the bad guys …but it was shot too much like the Adam West Batman series . I hope the new film makes him more menacing and serious . I have been thinking of doing my own personal edit of the Lynch film where Baron Harkonnen and his crew don’t show up until the attack on house atreides …seems like all you need to know about them is told through dialouge beforehand anyway and it would cut down on the cartonishness in my opinion ( your mileage may vary ) . I would also do away with Thufir milking the cat scene .
wow ! This looks amazing ! I have been on a deep dive of all things Dune lately …loved the Spicediver Redux cut , but this looks like it is very well done and I would love it see it in motion in crisp definition like this . May I have a pm link as well ? Will most definitely give feedback .
