<strong>The Acolyte</strong> (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread
Time

Just watched Acolyte episode 6. The Qimir/Osha stuff is cool but the rest is just okay. I’m starting to wonder if Qimir is way older than he seems… Either way, I no longer think he’s a Ren. I think the Kylo theme in the last episode was just to highlight how he and Osha have a similar dynamic to Kylo and Rey. I’m still putting my money on him being Plagueis. I like the theory of Vern being his former master. If he really is much older than he seems, then it would make sense, since she’s also like 100+, and according to the books, she also dabbled with the dark side a bit when she was young.

'Rey Skywalker' (Upcoming live action motion picture) - general discussion thread

If this movie and Dune 3 really do release on the same day, the only way I can see this one making money is if they do at least one of two things:

1.Integrate as many classic ghosts as possible (Luke, Anakin, Qui-Gon, etc.) into the story and put them all over the marketing.

2.Have all of Rey’s students be kids/tweens and make it clear in the marketing that this is a kids movie first and foremost, to contrast with dune being “Star Wars for adults.” Market the movie as a light, pulpy adventure, rather than a dark drama. A Barbenheimer situation, of sorts.

Nobody is also talking about the fact that the Gollum movie is also scheduled for this same week, and classic LotR characters like Aragorn and Gandalf are expected to return for that one too, and Jackson and the original screenwriters are involved as well.

In the final version of TRoS, the legacy saber works normally, but there’s a leather band around it now, which implies that Rey did indeed repair it somehow, between the events of TLJ and TRoS. If I were Abrams, I woulda at least made the blade “wavy” or something, to remind audiences of the fact that the crystal got split in half (even if she did repair it, somehow).

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there is a fan edit of TROS that edited the saber’s blade to be instable like Kylo’s, right?

I think you’re right, yeah.

The director said Rey is the heart of Star Wars and all the fandom menace are losing their darn minds. Despite the fact that Luke passed the lightsaber in the sequel trilogy, the whole point of making those movies was Luke passing the torch so to speak. The Disney trilogy isn’t getting retconned and Luke’s story purpose has been given to Rey, to those fans who object to this hoping for a retcon or a Luke academy series walk away Star Wars died ten years ago for you.

I’m not gatekeeping I’m just pointing out a simple fact that those type of news channels if you can even call them that are totally obtuse about.

I not super excited for this film to be honest but I want to keep an open mind and heart. I hope the trailer when it arrives is good and maybe even my nieces might like it.

I’m not at all interested in the politics of how things are made or what have you I just want to enjoy Star Wars. I have to avoid those channels in my feed the algorithm promotes.

I agree. Whether people like it or not, Rey is Luke’s spiritual successor, and Luke was the original heart of the franchise (it was initially supposed to be called The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, after all).

this episode felt more like a filler, just like the 3rd episode, in a different way, it could be condensed into 10 to 15 minutes, they are putting extra stuff just for the season to have 8 episodes.
are they that 2 characters from the prequels ? i dont know but if they are is just a nothing fan service
and one more thing i just hope that the evil sister goes to that overused and generic star wars villans direction
overall just a mid episode

Yes, I’m pretty sure that was Ki-Adi-Mundi and Plo Koon. Both of their species live long enough for them to be around 100 years before the PT.

EDIT: yes, the credits confirm that it’s ki-adi

New post up on my blog regarding the acolyte (and the state of the franchise in general):

https://henrynsilva.blogspot.com/2024/06/the-acolyte-past-present-future-of-star.html?m=1

Nice summation and without Hyperbole, but you didn’t mention Willow the tv series being erased from existence or Dial of Destiny flopping. And I disagree on Solo, I feel like Alden didn’t at all come off as Harrison. What Disney needs is a Star Wars film in the cinema that breaks a billion at the box office. If Dial can fail and Harrison was in it, what does that say about Lucasfilm? The same actor who was a draw when they made Force Awakens, couldn’t get people to see the 5th Indiana Jones film. And also the Rey movie isn’t going to have Harrison or Mark or Carrie to carry it, we shall see what the box office says on that one if it ever gets released.

As for the Acolyte itself I just got into the older shows on disc, when is Disney going to put out Mando season 3 and Ahsoka? Because I would have to sign up for Plus and other than some of the cartoon shows and maybe Light and Magic it doesn’t seem like all that good a deal at the price point for no ads.

I could see Luke’s ghost showing up in the Rey movie, but aside from that, I understand your points.

Forgot about Willow and Indy 5. That said, I was just talking about SW specially. Not Lucasfilm as a whole.

If anyone has any suggestions of channels or podcasts etc to be added to the above list please post them in here or PM me.

Thank you very much for including me here! I really appreciate it!

I’m starting to think that acolyte would work better as a binging show, rather than week to week. I’m gonna wait until it’s over before I watch the rest, I think.

That said, it could still end up being my favorite sw show (depending on how it ends).

A '<strong>Rumour and News</strong>' thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series
Time

Sneider is on Rocha’s livestream again. Someone is asking if Finn will be a Jedi. I’ll let you all know when he answers. So far all he said that’s Star Wars related is that he thinks Levy is gonna pass on Avengers to focus on Star Wars.

EDIT: The question finally got answered. Rocha says a source told him Boyega will be back, and will indeed be a Jedi, but then Sneider said “if that happens, I owe you a steak dinner,” so make of that what you will.

That was a great post too! I had totally forgotten how I would regularly listen to Collider (especially their Jedi Council podcast) during the lead up to TFA and into TLJ. I did recall Campea’s departure and some falling out stuff, but I hadn’t really kept up with many of these movie review content creators and didn’t realize how many of these media groups have kind of broken down.

I think it highlights the anxiety of being a content creator, where your income relies upon something that is arguably out of your control. And the only way many of them can keep making money is by constantly churning out news, and even worse, ragebait.

I think people forget that anger can be a drug. We can get addicted by how it makes us feel. Regular news already does this, but you definitely see it within more nerdy communities too. Or even the dopamine hits we get from more tame content.

These ragebait content creators don’t care about you. They want to keep you mad so you keep watching content so they keep making money. I’m not saying their opinions aren’t valid, at one point they maybe did care, but the line becomes harder to see when they’re financially motivated to keep talking about it. And I think it can lead us to become hyper fixated on things that really aren’t that important.

Like you said, so what if Batman II is delayed? Maybe there is a valid discussion to have about the dysfunction in Hollywood or whatever, but suddenly that conversation can get blown out of proportion becomes it benefits someone to do so.

I think it is a microcosm of a lot of feelings I have been having lately about internet addiction in general, and the desire to want to spend less time consuming content. And I think it helps when you’re able to look behind the curtain and realize a lot of content creators are trying to take as much time out of our brief lives for a little money.

Anyway, back to real life.

Glad you liked this post too! And yeah, couldn’t have said all of that better myself.

“Force Awakens would be higher if it weren’t so dependent on having a next installment to answer all the questions, so it’s retroactively worse as a result.”

^ Couldn’t the same be said for The Empire Strikes Back ? ( don’t get me wrong , Empire is my favorite )

The only legit “mystery box” in ESB is “who is the other that Yoda was talking about?” Things like “will they save Han?” or “was Vader lying?” aren’t really mystery boxes, imo. Just loose ends. It’s obvious where those story threads wanted to go.

TFA, on the other hand, has the following mystery boxes:

Who is Rey?
Who is Snoke?
Why did Luke blame himself and walk away from everything, as Han said?
Why didn’t Luke sense Han’s incoming death and come to his aid?
Is Finn force-sensitive too, and if so, will that get in the way of Rey being the supposed new Jedi messiah?
Is Finn the “backup messiah”? Or is that Kylo, since he will obviously be redeemed?
Is Finn gonna be the new face of the rebels, while Rey is the new face of the Jedi, or is that Poe, since the script decided to leave him alive at the last minute?
From a meta perspective, why is the rebels vs empire dynamic repeating? How can this new trilogy actually say anything new if we’re just repeating the old again? What’s the justification of undoing the happily-ever-after and bringing the OT heroes back to square one?
